State Department confirms breach on Obama's passport file

(CNN) - The State Department has confirmed a breach on Sen. Barack Obama's passport file, his campaign told CNN.

"This is an outrageous breach of security and privacy, even from an administration that has shown little regard for either over the last eight years," said Obama campaign spokesman Bill Burton in a statement. "Our government's duty is to protect the private information of the American people, not use it for political purposes."

The campaign called for "a complete investigation" to find out who looked at Obama's passport file and why.

  2. come on....

This is getting absolutely ridiculous.... it's just been a circus and the country doesn't know who will be the nominee. If this is from the part of the opposing Democratic nominee, at least she can give up. I'm a democrat but am feeling really disenchanted with both candidates. This whole thing has been like a soap opera, and I'm tired of it. In fact I've been tired of it since the beginning of the current Administration. How much more of this wackiness do we really need?

2 were fired and 1 was suspended for snooping. Is that all? Is that the only deterrent for employees and contractors not to snoop into private security files?

    This reeks of Nazism!!!!

These actions typify the dogmatic, dictatorial, and despicable nature of the Bush administration.

Americans will never be safe until we replace this administration with someone who will respect our civil rights and safeguard our privacy.

The Bush administration is a complete embarrasment!

Why cant their voters have a voice when the state break the rules. These are the same actions taken to elect george bush. You know I feel about like the Reverand until this country STOP playing games it will continue to go down. YOU ARE ALL AMAZING. KEEP UP THE GOOD WORK.

If Obama has nothing to hide why is he so upset? He is always calling for Hillary to release things now it's his turn.

Yes, let's spend tax-payer dollars for a full investigation into who (hired to work within the government – presumably) looked at Obama's pasport records... Gee why can't we expend these kinds of resources when computer records of thousands of Americans' records are hacked or stolen. Obama sounds like he is falling to the role perfectly – just like every other politician...

Hmmm..who are these contract workers and on who's behalf were they acting on, don't think it was just plain curiosity, the benefits of such had to out weight the risk of consequences.

I hope Obama and Hillary divide the Democratic party as much as possible. Neither one is capable of being "Commander in Chief". My father who has voted a striaght democratic ticket for 56 years is voting McCain because of their fixation on becoming the first black/women president. They have no platform and no chance of winning. I'm voting McCain even if it means yet another tour in Iraq because he is a proven leader.

This story was on msnbc about the security breach of Obama's files was on MSNBC a full 30 minutes before it showed up on CNN because CNN was still stuck on the race issue. I used to count on CNN to be an impartial news source. However, it's becoming increasingly clear that CNN is being manipulated – find something new, quit being part of the problem and get OFF RACE! YOU are making this a campaign that is about race by continuing to show the same video over and over and over – by having the right wing decide what the terms of the "debate" will be. Shame on you - stinking get back on the issues.

Are we expected to believe this is just idle curiousity? Of course we are! Why wasn't Senator Obama notified when it happened, why did it happen again and again, and why didn't any higher ups contact him, his office or campaign? We know why? There is a double standard in this country and the sooner it is realized and the 'spin' is taking off of it, the sooner we will get to some real race relation efforts.
