Bill Richardson to endorse Obama

[cnn-photo-caption image= http://i.l.cnn.net/cnn/2008/POLITICS/03/21/obama.richardson/art.obamafay.gi.jpg caption="Obama will receive the endorsement of former presidential rival Richardson on Friday."] (CNN) - Gov. Bill Richardson of New Mexico plans to endorse Sen. Barack Obama in the Democratic race for president Friday, an Obama campaign spokesperson told CNN.

Richardson plans to join Obama at a rally in Portland, Oregon, at 12:30 p.m. Friday.

In an e-mail to supporters, Richardson said Obama will be a "historic and a great president, who can bring us the change we so desperately need by bringing us together as a nation here at home and with our allies abroad."

Richardson also said in the e-mail that he was touched by Obama's recent speech on race in America, saying he "understands clearly that only by bringing people together, only by bridging our differences can we all succeed together as Americans."

Richardson is the nation's only Hispanic governor. Hispanics have tended to support Obama's rival, Sen. Hillary Clinton, in the race for the Democratic presidential nomination.

Bill Richardson is a traitor to his people. The Latino community supports Hillary Clinton 3 to 1.

I'm dancing in my heart. It's time to start healing our party. We need to have a civil conversation with Clinton supporters that is productive and positive. We need them in November. Time to Unite!!!

From one loser to another. If Obama wins the nomination many Clinton suporters, including myself will vote for McCain. Anything to defeat Obama!! Obama will lose in November if he is nominated. Bill Richardson is a sickening human being who has waited until the nominee is al but chosen before endorsing anyone. Hoping for a cabinet post Bill?

Edwards will follow the suit soon. It is time to move past the racial tactics that have obstructed us from focusing on the issues that affect America.

So much for Obama stating that the super delegates should support the candidate that won their district. I suppose that is only in states he won, but in states that Clinton won all bets are off. Typical politician. Why is Obama referring to his grandmother as a typical white person not considered a racist comment?

And the remaining superdelegates start to see the writing on the wall and decide that it is time to put an end to Hillary's divisive campaign that would put McBush into office.

    Thank you Bill Richardson!

For a candidate with your incredible foreign policy experience, for a candidate who ACTUALLY negotiated the release of two Americans from Saddam Hussein, from a candidate who actually served a true foreign policy role in the United States government, your endorsement is overwhelmingly valuable and speaks very well about Obama's judgment and ability to handle the roles of President!

This is a big endorsement for Obama not just because he is a SD and party leader, but because Obama and Hillary had both been gunning hard for it. It is also big because Richardson "owes" more to the Clintons, yet still chose to endorse Obama.

Now, do I think this will have an effect on the upcoming primaries? No. However, I think it speaks to Obama's character...and, of course, to Richardson's chances at a VP slot ; )

If Obama wants superdelegates to refect the will of the people, then Richardson should endorse Hillary. Hillary won New mexico and has consistently won the Hispanic vote. Again, Obama is trying to have it both ways. He is a perfect politican right out of the same old playbook he claims to rail against. Shame on you Richardson. Why aren't you endorsing the candidate that won your state?

We were all touched by Obama's recent speech.

But as we strip away the eloquent phrases and look at what he really said:

    you're all wrong

    I'm right

    why"

    because.
