(CNN) - Gov. Bill Richardson of New Mexico endorsed Sen. Barack Obama in the Democratic race for president Friday.

"Barack Obama will make a great and historic president," Richardson told a rally in Portland, Oregon, with Obama standing at his side.

Richardson said Obama's recent speech on race in America, saying he "understands clearly that only by bringing people together, only by bridging our differences can we all succeed together as Americans."

"He appealed to the best in us ... as a Hispanic American I was particularly touched by his words," Richardson added.

Way to go Bill! Seeing as Richardson used to work for President Clinton, I think this endorsement means a lot. I generally don't think they mean much, but I am glad to see Richardson wasn't bullied by the Clintons to endorse Billary. WAY TO GO.

Tremendous endorsement for Obama. It's sure to help him with the Latin vote.

After eight years of the Bush smirk, get ready for the Obama snear. This pandering toan icon who is completely ill-prepared for the presidency is sickening........I'm not reading any more news until the election....will vote for Obama only to save the Supreme Court.

Fantastic, Bill Richardson!!! And great timing! Hopefully more endorsements of Obama will follow.
I think an Obama/Richardson ticket would be unbeatable!!! At the very least, Richardson should be Secretary of State!

All respect for Richardson out the window. He is a bad judge of character.

Obama has been saying that the superdelagates should follow the will of their constituencies... Obama lost in NM... so under Obama's own words, Bill should be supporting Hillary.

Bill Richardson is a big phony and two-face. He supposed to be a good friend of the Clinton's and now he back stabs them. I have seen phony people in my lifetime, but Richardson takes the cake!

Although this endorsement was a long time in coming, I think it shows that Hispanics and African-Americans have more in common than they would like to believe. Together, only positives can be expected.

Rather than uniting the races, I fear the endorsement of Bill Richardson might farther separate the races. Instead of voting for the individual that can best serve ALL the races, I fear that now (even more so), it will be all about what race the candidate is.

Looks like Gov Richardson is hoping for a Cabinet position again. Well, at least he has international experience. Obama will do OK as a President if he can be surrounded by folks who aren't so naive.

Holding true to form Hillary dismissed Richardson's endorsement the same way she dismissed every state Obama won so far (and all the people whose voices have already been heard, Mrs. Clinton).

If Richardson's endorsement was irrelevant to her why has she and her husband been pandering for his endorsement since he dropped out of the race?

Kudos, Governor! That makes two of you; time to give a nudge to Edwards, Biden, et al.! I look forward to seeing you in a cabinet position in the Obama administration!

Richardson for VP! Denis supports Obama; Dowd supports OBama; Now Richardson...all of whom ran for president. What does it say about Hillary? Time to go home, HRC!

  24. Judgment is Lacking....

Who cares...The speach did not answer the questions. That is what Obama does, he delivers good speaches but answers no questions.

It is a shame that Bill Richardson has decided that it would be his best chance at the second seat, Vice President , by endorsing Obama. Great President? Nope, historic ? offcourse, just as Hillary would be.
