Obama pastor cancels scheduled appearances

[cnn-photo-caption image= http://i.cdn.turner.com/cnn/2008/images/03/26/art.wrightvid.cnn.jpg caption="Video clips of some of Wright's sermons have caused an uproar."]WASHINGTON (CNN) - The Rev. Jeremiah Wright, Sen. Barack Obama's controversial former pastor, has canceled his plans to speak at church services in Houston, Texas, this weekend in the wake of the recent uproar over portions of his past sermons.

Video clips of those sermons caused a public stir this month after being widely circulated on the Internet.

The clips in question include several racially charged statements and accusations the U.S. government has adopted policies to systematically oppress African-Americans.

This guy has really hurt Obama. He is a "permission slip" for anyone who doesn't want to vote for an African-American.

But he's more than that. He's a big question mark. And the question before the mark is, "How could Obama sit in the pew and listen to this guy for 17 years?"

Even Democrats, like me, who like Obama have to be wondering about him on this score.

I am an Obama supporter and I agree that the super delegates should vote according to their conscience and based on who is more electable in November. They should not blindly vote based on who wins most pledged delegates.

The reason we have Primary elections is to determine electability in November so guess what, Obama is proving that he is electable, which he has done against Ms. Clinton who was the presumptive nominee up until January. Hillary is the one who is unelectable. She couldnt even win the primaries, how can she win the General Elections. Besides she has the highest disapproval rating of any candidate. 45% of the electorate will never vote for HRC. So she only has a 55% electorate to work with. Both Obama and McCain have disapproval ratings of 26% and 27% respectively. Go figure who is more electable.

Democratic nomination was Hillary's to lose and she is losing it. How can anyone argue that she is more electable in Nov when she screwed up the primaries. It takes strategy and smarts to win elections... different strategies for primaries and general elections. Hillary has failed in the first test, and is now asking us to trust us with a bigger test in November. Obama is a once in a life time candidate who is winning against odds. And those of you who are calling him racist, you really belong in the other party, please vote for McCain whoever the democratic nominee is. I and an Obama supporter but will vote for Clinton, if she is our nominee.

Obamas, key words, PART of ME. So, have the chickens come home to roost? Sorry about the threats, but when you preach hate you get it back ten fold.

. . .To those that CHOOSE to be unenlightened, there are many white parishoners who attend Senator Obama's church. I happen to be one of them.

    Obama 08.

So, the Democratic Party and it's attempts to gain an upper hand politically by exposing this man has left the Constitution in a shambles.

No longer can he practice his religion or speak freely. An avenue of income for him (speaking appearances) in his pursuit of life, liberty and happiness has been taken away. All in the name of gaining superdelegates. Shade of things to come in a potential Clinton administration?

You betcha! Just Google the Antiterrorism and Effective Death Penalty Act of 1996 signed by her husband. Key to this was the suspension of Habeas Corpus.

If anyone would care to look at reality (instead of Mrs. Clinton's Walter Mitty recollections of the past) the pattern would be evident.

Hey CNN. I think thats the first time where you mentioned that Wright's comments are only snippets and they are COMPLETELY taken out of context. But whatevs, maybe next time, to be fair, you should host videos of the whole sermons for people to make up their own minds instead of you feeding them out of context highlights.

Jeremiah Wright is an idiot. Just because he's a pastor doesn't make him righteous. He's just an idiot with a degree. That's all. He's no leader. He's a baffoon.

to these big mouth, big shots. Why don't they just make the report and

Ok- to all people on this forum, BO, HRC and McC supporters- I ask you: Does anyone blame him for canceling?

Seriously...in light of all that's surfaced recently (true, not true; in or out of context), if I were him I would disappear for awhile. You can increase security all you want- it still only takes one very upset person with one bullet to make all the security null.

Despite anything he's said, again be it taken in or out of context, I don't want to see something bad happen to him or anyone for that matter. I can't imagine anyone faulting him for canceling public appearances right now.

This article deserves the same response that Vice President Dick Cheney has often given "So". Now put that in your pipe and smoke it.

I wouldn't want this clown poisoning the minds of my church members either. Jeremiah Wright is a cancer and needs to be isolated. It looks like we are making progress toward that goal.

Leadership doesn't abuse its power. Wielding one's own personal injections in what should've been words of truth, clearly call jeremiah wright's credibility into question.

Why won't Wright speak, i'm sure Obama wouldn't mind it. After all he's been listening to it for 20 some years and it never bothered him. Obama's would never called him out as the racist he is.

Thank you media for contributing to this innocent man of God running for his life. You REFUSED to play or even say on the air,his sermons in full context and have duped the majority of American people into believing this man is a dangerous racist. You couldn't be any further from the truth. Thanks again media.

Good idea for the Obama campaign for the pastor to lay low. His exposing the truth almost did his candidate in. Had the news media not been so protective of Obama, who is obviously their candidate as well, Senator Obama would have lost by now.

If a candidates Church is worthy of so much news it only seems fair to also look at Clintons. I believe it is called the Fellowship aka The Family and should get the same attention as the Trinity Church.

I personally don't think a person Church or religion plays a role in
our Government, but apparently many feel differently.

    Thank-You
