Obama chipping away at Clinton's Pennsylvania lead

[cnn-photo-caption image= http://i.cdn.turner.com/cnn/2008/images/04/01/art.obamaclintondeb.gi.jpg caption=" Obama is gaining ground in Pennsylvania, according to several polls."](CNN) - Barack Obama continues to chip away at Hillary Clinton's lead in the crucial state of Pennsylvania, a new Quinnipiac poll out Tuesday shows.

The New York senator's lead over Obama now stands at 6 points in the new poll, 50-44 percent. That compares to the 9 point lead Clinton held in a similar survey released 5 days ago, and an 11 point lead in a Quinnipiac survey late last month.

Specifically, Clinton has lost ground among white voters and men: She now holds an 18 point lead among whites, down from a 25 point gap in last week’s poll, and trails Obama by 4 points among males. Last week, the two drew equal support from men.

But Clinton continues to remain strong with her core voting bloc of older voters and white women, and likely Pennsylvania Democratic voters rate her more favorably than Obama - 71 percent for Clinton and 67 percent for Obama.

With the latest Quinnipiac poll, CNN's poll of several recent surveys show Clinton's lead over Obama in Pennsylvania now averages 6 percentage points. That gap is 1 point less than Monday’s poll of polls and 5 points less than a CNN poll of polls on Friday.

What's behind the shift?

"Obama has outspent Hillary Clinton three to one just on television advertising in Pennsylvania. He spent more than $3 million trying to get his name out and his message out to Hillary Clinton's $1 million," said Mark Preston, a CNN political editor.

The Illinois senator has also heavily benefited from the Service Employees International Union, which according to recently filed FEC reports has spent well over $700,000 on get-out-the-vote-efforts there.

The margin will narrow as long as Hillary keeps talking. Why has the news not followed-up on her involvement with her husband's pardoning all those criminals.

Seems to me she should have been chipped away along time ago. She's like a never ending nightmare.

    Worse than a bad hangover!

    Go away woman.

From the article: "But Clinton continues to remain strong with her core voting bloc of older voters and white women"

Too bad there are more people out there than just old white women. I can just see the new talking point/spin:
If only old white women were allowed to vote, Hillary would be winning!!

George Bush is an idiot, and those sheep who follow him anywhere with the blood of American soliders over their heads are idiots, too.

Lieberman is a puppet, and does not care about America.

The politics of fear will no longer work with Americans.

The world is watching the downfall of the American Empire. If something is not done – MAJOR CHANGE – on the international stage – it will only continue to fall.

I for one am very happy Obama is doing so well, and I know from watching international news I am not alone.

Americans – don't shoot yourself in the foot by electing another Republican.

Hillary is lying because of her boldfaced lies: "A bold-faced (or barefaced) lie is a lie told when it is obvious to all concerned that it is a lie. For example, the child with chocolate all over her face who denies having eaten the cake is a bold-faced liar. The adjective "bold-faced" indicates that no attempt has been made to hide the fact that it is a lie."

She did this with her support for NAFTA, her Bosnia story, and more. She has lost all credibility with me as a voter.

There is no way Obama is going to win in Penn, When the true polls
come out Penn voters are not that stupid. He can spend all the money he wants, but Hillary will still win.

She is a true a true American and people are going to vote for her
because she is the best to lead this country.

Remember Penn is not over run with black voters.

Right – it's just the money, of course! Nothing else, just the fact that poor Hillary Clinton can't afford, with her incredible personal wealth, to spend enough money in PA.

Obama also hasn't lied repeatedly in the past several weeks or been forced to fire anyone from his campaign for helping Colombia negotiate a trade deal that Obama is against. Has it ever occurred to you, Mrs. Clinton, that maybe part of the reason his stock is rising is because yours is sinking? Or maybe that the American people care about the truth?

To all the Clinton supporters who whine about CNN not covering your candidate, have a look at this ticker history. 5 McCain articles, 8 Clinton articles (including one on a new ad, her bowling, the olympics and a basketball game – real pithy issues), and one for Obama – this one. She doesn't need to fundraise as much. Her name just draws time.

Gergen was very critical of Obama last night. I want to know the
truth about Canada Nafta trick Hillary and Bill pulled on Obama
the eve of the Ohio elections. No time for Obama to defend himself.
Bill and Hillary knew EXACTLY what they were doing and they knew
the precise timing, hours before Ohio Primaries. Hillary won Ohio
by lying. Obama had 14 wins before Ohio. Something fishy about
    that story, MR.Gergen???
The Clintons "CHARITABLE DONATION" went to their OWN FOUNDATION. So, what about how much Clinton's care about the
Hillary can't quit now. She needs the campaign money to keep
coming in. If she quit now, she would owe more than $20 Million
    of her own MONEY????

How accurate are these polls? Wasn't it yesterday they said it was a 7-pt lead, now it's 6 pts? Did they make a bunch of phone calls last night? I think these daily poll updates are misleading and a waste of hard drive space.

Obama will end up cutting her lead from 20 points down to 1 or 2 ... in the end he may technically lose but this would be considered a huge win!

I also believe that if Clinton can't win by at least 10 points then she should drop out of the race as this would show her inability to win when given a huge points advantage.

As for why she will only win by 1 – 3 points or maybe even lose this state...

LIES ... yes Clinton's amazing habit of getting caught in her own lies and then trying to blame everyone around her (or bad mouth Obama) does not only look very unpresidential but it also makes Obama who has taken the high road almost at every chance look very presidential.

The other spin off from Clinton's lies is that Obama looks like the change this country needs.

As for Obama out spending Clinton... he is not out spending her, it is the 1 million plus people who have donated to Obama that are out spending her!

It is no longer a campaign but a movement of change...

Older voters. White women. And the less educated (left out of this report).

Rather than bash this constituency...I'd like to appeal to it. Your BEST INTERESTS are not reflected by Hillary Clinton.

Don't let the fear of something new hurt your ability to understand that "new" often means BETTER. Barack Obama is interested in what you have to say AFTER the election is over. It's been the way he's conducted business in over 20 years of politics.

Don't be afraid to reach for something MORE than you already have. The country needs to move in a new direction. You can help the country do that...by being brave enough to stand up for something–someone–better.
