Clinton: 'Not relevant' last time I went to church, fired gun

Watch a clip of Sen. Clinton's Sunday press conference.

SCRANTON, Pennsylvania (CNN) – After a weekend spent making direct appeals to gun owners and church goers, Hillary Clinton said Sunday a query about the last time she fired a gun or attended church services "is not a relevant question in this debate” over Barack Obama’s recent comments on small town Americans.

“We can answer that some other time,” Clinton said at a press conference held in a working class neighborhood here. “This is about what people feel is being said about them. I went to church on Easter. I mean, so?”

Clinton described the furor surrounding Obama’s remarks as “about how people look at the Democratic Party and the Democratic Party leadership.”

“We have been working very hard to make it clear that we have millions of Democrats who are church going and gun-owning,” she said. “And we are tired of having Republicans, or frankly our own Democrats, give any ammunition to Republicans because what happens then is Republicans take advantage of the situation.”

She called the current imbroglio “an important moment for Democrats” and challenged Obama to further explain what he meant by his comments, which she reiterated were “elitist and divisive.”

Pressed on whether she truly believes Obama is an elitist, Clinton called him “a good man,” but recalled the narratives of the 2000 and 2004 president election.

“You don’t have to think back too far to remember that good men running for president were viewed as being elitist and out of touch with the values and lives of millions of Americans,” she said.

The media loves to ask Clinton the silliest questions.

Go ask the same drivel of Obama.

    How absurd.

OK, so if she says she goes to church every Sunday, then people will be questioning her about separation between church and state. If she doesn't , they will say she isn't "Christian" enough. Geez, the woman can't win. I think her answer kept her out out of trouble, for today anyway.
I am a democrat, but have never been near a gun, nor do I want to be. This is one issue I disagree with her on-I have no love for the NRA who totally misrepresent the 2nd amendment. Like it or not, guns kill, every day, every hour in every city. And were we to have some regulation on the types of guns that the true hunters out there really need, maybe there would be less hunting down of people.

I fail to understand why every slip up that Sen. Obama makes suddenly becomes Sen. Clinton's problem. Is it too much to ask that Sen. Obama take some responsibility for his own remarks? Perhaps those that have caught the Obama fever will soon realize that he is an elitist that lacks the grit and conviction for the presidency.

How can Hillary "100 million in 8 years" Clinton have any credibility when calling someone else an elitist. This is ridiculous political banter.

Is John Edwards really going to continue to sit back and watch?

Obama just insulted the former base of John Edwards supporters. Add that with Hillary's 100% universal health care plan compared to Obama's SUBPAR plan, I would think it is now time for Edwards to stop the madness, and endorse Hillary Clinton.

The "Elitist" person here, is Hillary. Raised in a semi-wealthy family, attended elitist schools, for the past 25 years has lived an "elitist" life. For the past 6, has had an annual income of approx. 1 million each year. SHE IS A REAL WASHINGTON ELITIST! Obama, born to a single parent, just paid off his school loans, was a Community Organizer, hasn't made nearly the amount of annual income his rival has.

She's "milking" this mistake by Obama for all it's worth. Remember she just said all he does is "use words"....and make speeches, well if that's the case.....this use of the word "bitter" shouldn't mean anything to anyone.

Don't be duped into thinking he isn't the man he is....the real truth is, she IS the woman she portrays herself to be......lies about lots and lots of stuff, throws the kitchen sink, runs a terrible campaign and I could go on and on.

She's "out of touch" and the elitist, not Obama.

The politician who are out of touch are the once who get tens of millions of dollars from big time lobbyist and foreign interests. Obama has made it a hard ways just like millions of Americans. The family with no income, borrowing money to go to school, he unlike the Clintons have student loans and mortgages not a 109 millions of income, if any one understand the challenges of middle and lower income Americans it is Barack Obama. That is why millions of people believe in change and that together “yes we can”. In fact, about bitterness shows his in touch with the common man problems.

Clinton loves to dodge direct questions and re-focus negitive attention on Obama. It's remarkable how he refuses to leverage her gaffes publically yet she pounces any time she gets a chance. To think she and her supporters are acting like the Republicans would have a field day with Obama's weaknesses. I guess they think that the Republicans will compete as honorably against her as Obama has. That's laughable. Why does she insist on doing her best to degrade Obama's chances in November?

It does not matter when Senator Clinton went to church last or shot a gun last because Senator Obama was not talking about her in his little speech to his wealthy suppporters. He was talking about small town folks who live in rural areas of PA and other states. He was talking about me and other folks who live in small towns.

"elitist and out of touch": Wow, now it is getting really nasty. I cannot tell the difference between Clinton's and McCain's reaction.

Yeah, man, I'm glad Hillary isn't giving the Republicans any ammo... oh wait, this prolonged nomination fight is nothing BUT exposing ammo for Republicans to use against the Dem nominee.

To quote from McCain's spokesperson, "I find these remarks breathtaking" Why aren't we talking about Iraq? Why aren't we talking about homeless vets? Why is this Wellsley/Yale Law School Grad calling Obama an elitist?

Clinton is such a liar, she gets caught in so many lies.

I really can't believe anyone is made about what Obama said. It's the truth. I think there is something to the fact that less educated people support Hillary. You would have to be dumb to not understand what Obama was saying.

Wake up, Clinton's have made 100 million dollars from people like the Dubai government.

Hillary: Why are you trying to get so much mileage out of a colleague's
humanness which you are twisting and distorting? It makes you come off
as smug, entitled and "elitist", though I do not think your impression of Obama as elitist correctly defines him. I have changed my mind about the "best" and "most electable" Democrat. It will be good to have Obama in the White House in 2009.

  17. Shame on you

Clinton has stepped to a new low. She has turned the truth into chaos. But when your getting your butt handed to you , i guess its best to spin it back on the people. Whats sad is that stupid Americans are bying it.

Both Clinton and Obama have made statements that they would relieve us of our handguns if they have their way... this statement and story is very misleading to the American public. They both believe in victim disarmament. I will be voting (if needed writing in) for Ron Paul to give us back our rights and bring us back to the Constitutional values. Thank you very much.... I have voted Democrate for too long and Republicans are no better!!

Yeah, tell us Hillary, When was the last time you fired a gun or you went to church. Painting of Obama as being ellitist is a dismissal of your wealth having earned more than 108 Million dollars over the last 8 years, not exactly the income of blue collar people. You don't know anything about blue collar bitterness. Your husband earned more than $800,000 in speeches lobbying for free trade agreement with Colombia. Your campaign chief strategist is paid money to lobby for free trade agreement for other country. Where is your connection to the Blue color workers. It's very shameful of you, Hillary.

So, gun-toting, sniper-dodging Hillary now thinks the question of when she last fired a gun is irrelevant?

I sure hope people see through this.

You don't speak for me!!! Earning $109 million!!!

Once again I give credit to the Clinton campaign for taking it to Obama. After Texas they might had learn to go on the offensive but once again this political machine doesn't care how dirty they get and take over the airwaves. Obama campaign please wake up. You guys get overconfident or are just naive to the extent this Clinton campaign plays.

Well now that she is a whiskey drinking, gun toting, church going, lier, of course any question asked of her is irrelevant. What is also irrelevant is the millions she and her husband and the Clinton Library have made off of countries that have poor human rights records. It is irrelevant because they are elitists that don't have a clue about America, just want benefits them monetarily and gives them power.

More BS from someone who's trying to "highlight" how close she is with people who Barack Obama supposedly demeaned. What a laughing stock. The real unfortunate thing here, though, is not Hillary being a complete transparent toolbox, but that so many voters eat this stuff up.

What I want to know is. Does Hillary Clinton work for John McCain? The 3:00 am commercial worked great for McCain. Now the bitter comment which she's so desperatly making something out of again gives McCain ammo. She is the worst of the worst!! I a life long democrat would not vote for her under ANY circumstances!!
