Clinton: 'Not relevant' last time I went to church, fired gun

CNN

Watch a clip of Sen. Clinton's Sunday press conference.

SCRANTON, Pennsylvania (CNN) – After a weekend spent making direct appeals to gun owners and church goers, Hillary Clinton said Sunday a query about the last time she fired a gun or attended church services "is not a relevant question in this debate” over Barack Obama’s recent comments on small town Americans.

“We can answer that some other time,” Clinton said at a press conference held in a working class neighborhood here. “This is about what people feel is being said about them. I went to church on Easter. I mean, so?”

Clinton described the furor surrounding Obama’s remarks as “about how people look at the Democratic Party and the Democratic Party leadership.”

“We have been working very hard to make it clear that we have millions of Democrats who are church going and gun-owning,” she said. “And we are tired of having Republicans, or frankly our own Democrats, give any ammunition to Republicans because what happens then is Republicans take advantage of the situation.”

She called the current imbroglio “an important moment for Democrats” and challenged Obama to further explain what he meant by his comments, which she reiterated were “elitist and divisive.”

Pressed on whether she truly believes Obama is an elitist, Clinton called him “a good man,” but recalled the narratives of the 2000 and 2004 president election.

“You don’t have to think back too far to remember that good men running for president were viewed as being elitist and out of touch with the values and lives of millions of Americans,” she said.

Hill is full of it. How can she make a remark about someone being out of touch.....she and Mc Cain have over a hundred million dollars. They're so far removed from the "regular" American's it isnt' funny.

How amazing is it that she is grilling Obama about a mis statement....can I mention Bosnia. There's no sniper fire here....this is actually a mis statement, not a out and out lie

Well, hillary is right. The speech was about obama's comments, not hillary and shooting a gun. And by the way, the way I read what Obama said, I don't think he was talking about guns for hunting! Since there are no other replies at this time are you going to print this one? you never print any of my other comments. Just remember I am from a small town in pa. You don't want to make me bitter! (just kidding)

We find again that Senator Clinton, will say and do anything to be elected. It does matter when and if she went to church or fired a gun. When you use these items against someone else you must be ready to answer the same question. This is again politics as usual, as a nation we need to turn the page on this type of politics and move to a new a better Amreica

When the presidential candidates were asked a question about what they think threir shortcomings were it was only OBAMA that gave a straight answer. HILARY essentially said she had none.
Obama telling things as it is refreshing and all small town people like myself appreciate that very much.

This story is being reported with such irresponsibility!

Obama makes a gaffe and Hilary Clinton, Queen of Gaffes and lies, is permitted to use the free media to distort it and demonize him for days. All that Obama said, although inartfully, was what every democrat has said since Thomas Frank published his award winning "What's the Matter With Kansas" in 2004. Obama was answering a question about why economically disadvantaged Repbulicans focus on gun rights, religious divisions, and other so-called "values" issues, when their economic interests lie with the Democrats' philosophy.

This is a an analysis embraced by the Democratic party itself, including the Clintons. Her disingenuous use of the term "elitist" is completely illegitimate and the media is reporting this as if Obama called low income people "hicks." He is the one who has devoted his life to fighting for the poor, not Clinton.

Now here she is posing as a gun enthusiast and devotely pious church-goer and she is receiving the same attention. Why don't the reporters on this story just write a check to her campaign instead of pretending this isn't the worst political garbage?

obam is unable to talk without a telepromter, if he doesn't have a telepromter his real views come out.

news papers endorse obama because they want to sale papers to his follows, plus most papers follow the most liberal cadidate

what kind of campaingn is this. When are we going to put hypocresy behing and being real. Barack Obama is having more trouble for telling the true about people feelings in rural Pensylvania then hilary Clinton for lying about Bosnia and Ireland. At this point of the primary , she is so desperate, she is sticking to anything....
I am getting "so bitter "about this campaingn, I am thinking about voting republican in november

The Clinton campaign called the democratic superdelegates to "complain" about Obama's comment in a way suggesting that the Obama camp ought to have done the same during the Bosnia story. Are we seeing a replay of the the famed "guilty complex" syndrome or has the democratic debate been turned upside-down into a "mom, he started licking the sugar" kind of contest? Clinton ought to explain the term, "kitchen sink" policy rather than hanging on to a losing contest. She is definitely not my type of loser; she is a very bitter loser. And should she win the nomination, I will organize my neighborhood to elect McCain by huge numbers. I'm fed up! Clinton (Mr) has no day job and it seems like he is truly the guy fighting so hard to get a corner office at the White House. THAT is the way I see it.

Um, yeah, Hillary, we remember 2000 and 2004 very well.

Then it was the REPUBLICANS who smeared the best candidate as "elitist." I never imagined that a Democrat would stoop so incredibly low.

The Clinton legacy is finally dead.

Mike Krauss : Director of the PA Bureau of Rural Affairs and Director of the Pennsylvania Republican State Committee
Senator Barack Obama seems to have a penchant for honest thought. It was again on display in remarks he made this past week about some Pennsylvania voters.

And all things considered, I think I may actually prefer Obama’s evident intellectual remove to the contrived folksiness of many of the other elites who have campaigned for and governed as president in modern times. I name no names.

Hillary Clinton is an opportunist – this woman doesn't idenitify with the PA rural voters any more than my 6 year old Chicago-born daughter. She will say anything to win, no matter how absurd it sounds! She opens up the can of whip as*, an when asked if she has ever actually whipped as*, all she can say is "it's not relevant?!" This woman is all TALK and Politics... Those PA voters are not as dumb as she is hoping and praying they are... She gets more and more pathetic every single day!

Beer and whiskey on Saturday night, church on Easter Sunday, and this party of the common working man takes a "church going, gun owning, whiskey chasing" lurch toward the "good old boy" south. Is Hillary trying to be "Miss Kitty?" You know Hillary has NEVER fired a gun since Bill is still alive!

We can't possibly talk about stuff like funding for education, rebuilding the nations infrastructure which is falling apart so rich people can have tax cuts, unirsal single payer health care (I like the Canadian system if anyone cares.

No, it's more important to twist an opponents words for political gain.

Hillary – you have the better health insurance plan – but you're about as deep as the mud flats from which you're scooping the crap your flinging around wildly. You're making it very hard to vote for you should you win the nomination. I may be busy packing for Canada.

I can't think of a time where Clinton has actually answered a question. Someone should let her know that, generally speaking, questions are meant to be answered.

yes hillary, it IS relevant. you're running around painting yourself as a gun-loving, church-going american. easter? tell me when the last time you fired a gun was. this woman just wants to destroy the democratic party at whatever cost. elitist is making $109 million in ten years, then trying to pretend to be blue-collar. i saw this clip on tv, and hillary says that the paper in scranton was talking about obama using the world bitter. nice hillary. why didn't you mention that the same paper today came out and endorsed OBAMA? grab your kid, your husband, two of his girlfriends and simply go away.

Hillary really need to get a life and stop being such a cry baby! How can she make a good president if she continue to give the impression that she will do anything to win this election, cheat, kill, lie or destroy. Obama is correct in what he said. we are fed up. The trason she cannot understand tis is because she has millions If this is going to cause him the votes in Penn. or any place else, then we are the looser. I once had such great respect for the clintons even after bill affair in our sacred Whitehouse. Both of them now are acting like liars and cheats. Obama told the truth!
