Clinton: 'Not relevant' last time I went to church, fired gun

Watch a clip of Sen. Clinton's Sunday press conference.

SCRANTON, Pennsylvania (CNN) – After a weekend spent making direct appeals to gun owners and church goers, Hillary Clinton said Sunday a query about the last time she fired a gun or attended church services "is not a relevant question in this debate” over Barack Obama’s recent comments on small town Americans.

“We can answer that some other time,” Clinton said at a press conference held in a working class neighborhood here. “This is about what people feel is being said about them. I went to church on Easter. I mean, so?”

Clinton described the furor surrounding Obama’s remarks as “about how people look at the Democratic Party and the Democratic Party leadership.”

“We have been working very hard to make it clear that we have millions of Democrats who are church going and gun-owning,” she said. “And we are tired of having Republicans, or frankly our own Democrats, give any ammunition to Republicans because what happens then is Republicans take advantage of the situation.”

She called the current imbroglio “an important moment for Democrats” and challenged Obama to further explain what he meant by his comments, which she reiterated were “elitist and divisive.”

Pressed on whether she truly believes Obama is an elitist, Clinton called him “a good man,” but recalled the narratives of the 2000 and 2004 president election.

“You don’t have to think back too far to remember that good men running for president were viewed as being elitist and out of touch with the values and lives of millions of Americans,” she said.

I'm sure the last time she fired a gun was when she was pinned down in Bosnian sniper fire. Buy her a beer and a shot and she might tell you about it.

If they're irrelevant, why did she bring it up? She's the one who now is pretending to be a gun-toting bible thumper.

Maybe she'd rather talk about Obama's choice of orange juice over coffee.

This is all Hillary has left. She has to attack, distort, and destroy in order to win. She understands what Obama met by his comments but her ambition is driving her to twist anything she can to win. Remember, "I'm in it to win" but she didn't tell us, "no matter what it takes". She may find a way to win the nomination but she'll lose the election as she drives Obama supporters to the sidelines.

Hillary, stop being such a Pollyanna when talking about workers' attitudes about the economy. No one's buying your spin. Barack said it as it is: People are upset, and because they can't rely on old politicians like YOU to deal with REAL issues like healthcare and the economy, they instead vote on less immediate issues like gun rights.

That's what Republicans WANT us to be talking about, and they use it as a wedge issue. Now, you're doing the same thing. Let's get back on topic, which is: people are upset, and we need to be talking about the economy, not about who has a right to bear arms. Get real.

What do we want, truth or lies?

I find that for a country where freedom of speech is celebrated, too many people are thin skinned if the truth be told. You always have to watch what you say. When the truth is spoken it is taken out of context and analyzed to be offensive. The bible, upon which Christian faith is based, tells us that men would rather believe a lie than the truth. It is not surprising then that people push a lie faster and further than they push the truth.

Would america please wake up and stop living in denial. People are angry about what's happening to the jobs.

Why do you think blacks were so religious during slavery? They needed God and other things to take their minds off their crisis. How else would they survive?

Screw that... She's Hiding things again. Yea she went to church on easter... AND?! yea talk about being out of touch. That's an excellent example of someone being a hypocrite.

This proves she can talk the talk, but she can't walk the walk. END

Of course, someone who makes 9 figures in income over a 7 year period is TOTALLY in touch with blue collar America. HRC calling Obama an "elitist" is like the pot calling the kettle a "stove-top appliance."

It is relevant Sen. Clinton when you've been pandering to such crowd all weekend. Do you have such little respect for small towners that you don't think they could sniff out a phony a mile away?

this is getting so old... How does she have any right to question anything Obama says and why she needs it explained to her? She can LIE over and over to America and then give some lame excuse as to why she did it then blow it off as if it were a joke. So the slip of one simple word is more questionable then a blaitant lie? I dont think so. WAKE UP AMERICA!

What do you mean its not relevant? If she are going to criticise Obama on religion and guns, she better go to church more than just on Easter and at least have fired a gun before in her life. Because in small town America that is what we have. Hillary takes whatever Obama says and twists it around. How about just sticking to the issues JOBS and the ECONOMY!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! Because right now neither are worth a darn.

Does anyone not see what Hillary is doing? It's called PANDERING. I mean, come on! Taking whiskey shots, reminiscing about her "duck shooting days"-does not anyone see a pattern here? In one breath she says its elitist to call Pennsylvania voters "bitter" (with Bill throwing in his two cents), but failing to remember that Bill Clinton accused the Republican of "scaring the hell out of financially insecure white men" by telling them that the government wants to take their guns away. Think I'm lying about that? It's on Huffington Post right now. These people are hypocrits of the highest order. Last week when Clinton's campaign was eroding, not once did he take the opportunity to pounce on her.

The real problem here is that everyone says that they want something different, but they have to deal with their own demons before there can be any change. Obama says that he doesn't tell people what they want to hear, but what they need to know. People need to know that he understands exactly where they are coming from, but that doesn't make where they are coming from necessarily right. What does Hillary do? She condescends to voters by adopting their beliefs and lifestyles to pacify them long enough to get them to the polls and then does her "Sybil" switch when she moves on to the next primary.

Go ahead Hillary supporters, shoot your best shot, but I believe that Americans, including Pennsylvania voters, might be bitter, but they are not nearly as stupid as the Clintons think.

It's interesting that Clinton thinks SHE, not the people considering voting for her, gets to decide what is relevant.

    That's awfully arrogant.

This is the funniest thing I've seen in a month. Don't do as I do, do as I say. "I can talk about how I know guns and I am a churchgoer except that I don't go to church and I haven't touched a gun in 50 years." Great job Hillary. More of the same. Criticize your opponent over his telling the truth and then you can't even show how your life reflects your BS. Bye-bye Hillary.

Well at least she didn't give us that horrible laugh of hers. Did you notice, she never answers a question?.... She always dodges the bullet... like she did in Bosnia. I guess she misheard.

Do we really want 4 years of her laughing and dodging the answers?

Isn't it interesting how Hillary "misspoke" about Bosnia, but is now so intolerant of Obama having misspoken.

I have to wonder if Obama did the whole thing on purpose to expose Hillary for her duplicity.
