Clinton: 'Not relevant' last time I went to church, fired gun

CNN

Watch a clip of Sen. Clinton's Sunday press conference.

SCRANTON, Pennsylvania (CNN) – After a weekend spent making direct appeals to gun owners and church goers, Hillary Clinton said Sunday a query about the last time she fired a gun or attended church services "is not a relevant question in this debate” over Barack Obama’s recent comments on small town Americans.

“We can answer that some other time,” Clinton said at a press conference held in a working class neighborhood here. “This is about what people feel is being said about them. I went to church on Easter. I mean, so?”

Clinton described the furor surrounding Obama’s remarks as “about how people look at the Democratic Party and the Democratic Party leadership.”

“We have been working very hard to make it clear that we have millions of Democrats who are church going and gun-owning,” she said. “And we are tired of having Republicans, or frankly our own Democrats, give any ammunition to Republicans because what happens then is Republicans take advantage of the situation.”

She called the current imbroglio “an important moment for Democrats” and challenged Obama to further explain what he meant by his comments, which she reiterated were “elitist and divisive.”

Pressed on whether she truly believes Obama is an elitist, Clinton called him “a good man,” but recalled the narratives of the 2000 and 2004 president election.

“You don’t have to think back too far to remember that good men running for president were viewed as being elitist and out of touch with the values and lives of millions of Americans,” she said.

Hillary has to be careful what she says about Obama being an elitist. She has taken on a superior attitude of being holier than thou. So being one of the people to her means "swigging canadian whiskey /belting beer like one of the guys while shooting her gun in the air" . So you have the right to critisize Obama, Hillary? It looks very Presidential for Hillary to be in the beer joint, hanging out. HA. Now lets talk about the elitist $109m plus income of the Clintons, the NAFTA/CANADA-COLUMBIA(Penn rakeing in her campaign payment and fees from that Government to boot) and her Bosnia lie that was used to debunk her experience. Bill has been backdooring the america people by making deals with other countries who knows how much money he is hidding from the IRS. The question to Hillary is does she still have an upcoming conference call with the LA Court on April 25/08 about questionable monetary contributions to scheduled a trial date.? The media is not touching that one. I wonder how come?

Are you kidding, when did Hillary go to church or shoot a gun, what does that have to do with anything?

He thinks we are a bunch of gun totin, bigoted, religious fanatics who won't vote for him because something must be wrong with US.

That is exactly what he was explaining to his maxed out supporters in California, free to say what he wanted because there was no press there.

Thank you to Ms. Clinton for framing this argument for the Republicans. She is the one pinning his comments as elitist and out-of-touch. I wonder how many would have thought twice about this without her and her surrogates mentioning it hundreds of times this past weekend!

Is that right? Now isn't that just a prime example of hypocracy, because thats exactly what you have been doing every since you started losing and invoking this "kitchen sink strategy" Mrs. Clinton...lol

No, it isn't relevant to address her firing a gun, because she probably has never fired one. Yesterday she was probably telling one of her big fish tales. I wished that reporter had ask about the number of communities in Pennsylvania that has endorsed Senator Obama.

Also they could have asked her about Bil's 1994 speech addressing and giving the same response as Obama regarding people living in communities that jobs have be outsourced over the past 25 years.

With the difference being its usually the republicans who try and twist and distort good men into "elitists". Now it's her and she doesn't even seem to be aware of it. She has become the republican attack machine.

I have no doubt there will be many more questions asking her how her lifestyle of the last twenty years qualifies her to speak for small towns across America.

Come on people! Hillary is again using dirty politics to change words around to her advantage. Obama clearly states his understanding of how people can become angry and disinchanted when jobs are lost and small towns are losing so much. My God, the man just finished paying off student loans. How can Hillary say he is an elitist. They are the ones worth millions!...so is McCain. WHO's OUT OF TOUCH? Now I have nothing against prosperity, but if you took the time to read about the candidates you would see how and why he chose to run for president. He comes from a modest but educated background that is closely connected to the average person. Hillary is running a scam, as she twists his words and try to get the media off her and her "changecoat" husband and strategist, Mark Penn. If she were so against the Columbian trade why is is that her husband benefited 800.000. I believe some of that money will be in their joint account!. Why is she protecting Mark Penn? Why did she not fire him outright? Maybe she is afraid of what would come out. I may be wrong, but it leaves one to think...it also leaves a dirty taste in your mouth. Her campaign is in shambles, Bill is in another world. There is no way that Hillary Clinton can effectively run this country with all of the baggage she would bring. She is a negative candidate; check and see the number of lies that she so blatantly says in the media; (FACTCHECK.COM) not even caring if they are lies. Please, please just because Hillary says it, doesn't mean the statements are true. Don't take my word...Please pray on it, but take the blinders off first, if you really want the truth to be revealed.

Oh please give me a break she is the biggest elitist I have ever seen and I can not believe what the media is just jumping to her tune.

  16. who's the stupid one?

The only real idiots- the truly stupid voter- will be those voters who have been mocked, belittled, demeaned, insulted, called racist, redneck and bigots by Obama and his supporters- AND then still go on to vote for Obama in Nov.

That willonly prove how we vote against our own best interests- thus validating Obama's dismissive and demeaning comments.

So understand his message with your vote and with your gun. Stay focused. Do not let the left wing fringe steal the nomination and your freedoms with it.

She is a female dog – dancing around the fact and dogding the truth.

I'm disgusted by her accusing the Republicans of what SHE is doing. She is a liar and a disgrace to women and this country on the whole.

If Hillary would only do more explaining about her husband $800,000 he received from the Columbia government and her top advisors conflict of interest on Columbia/NATFA. This more important than a statement that was taken out of context. We won't be fooled like Ohio!

Obama thinks he is better than us good ol country people We wouldn't sit and listen to our pastor's talk about the United States as his pastor did.
We are proud of our land and our religions and we love to hunt and be in the outdoors. We do this because we are brought up by our fathers and mothers and grandparents to be proud and believe in these things. We are survivors we know how to survive .We know how to stick together and stay true to our friends a whole more than I can say for some of our people that are in office now .Hillary is the best one to stand up for us and she will fight for us . Obama was brought up by what he calls a typical white grandmother that has typical white people thoughts for what ever they may be .His pastor for 20 years preaches hate for the United States. His wife is proud of our country for the first time in her life and she is how old ?They have let there two children listen to hate sermons!! They have dealing with a man that is in trouble with the law and he is a close friend Also after some research I have found that he knows William Ayers really well How can I Vote for a man that has so many things that just aren't right for our country I can't and have a clear peace of mind .Reconsider Voting for him he is not what you think he is don't take a chance on him Hillary is the only one that will be good in the office this time.

Hillary Clinton makes 100 million dollars, takes $800,000 from Colombia (she does file a joint return - so she took the money) and is calling Barack Obama an elitist. She definitely has guts but this is a sad, desperate attempt to gain something she cannon win and it's time for superdelegates to shut this down.

    typical clinton talk:

What we say is relevant is relevant, what we say doesnt matter doesnt matter, even if they are inextricably linked.

the only states that matter are the ones we say matter, all the states barack wins don't matter.

Too bad the main stream media (cnn included) doesnt call them out on it.

She knows that he is not an elitist. She needs to talk about the 51 millions her husband made on speaking engagements. I wish that people would stop saying that she won Texas. She won the popular vote but Obama won the total delegates which counts.
