(CNN) - Rocker Bruce Springsteen has endorsed Barack Obama for president.
“At the moment, critics have tried to diminish Senator Obama through the exaggeration of certain of his comments and relationships,” said the New Jersey native, in a statement posted on his Web site Wednesday. “While these matters are worthy of some discussion, they have been ripped out of the context and fabric of the man's life and vision… Over here on E Street, we're proud to support Obama for President.”
In February, Springsteen had resisted making a choice between Obama and Hillary Clinton, telling USA Today that "there are two really good Democratic candidates for president. I admire and respect them both enough to wait and see what happens."
But he praised Obama, who cited Springsteen as the person he would most like to meet in an interview with People magazine.
"I always look at my work as trying to measure the distance between American promise and American reality," he told the paper. "And I think (Obama's) inspired a lot of people with that idea: How do you make that distance shorter? …”
Springsteen backed Sen. John Kerry's unsuccessful 2004 presidential bid.
You should have said this prior to February 5, moron.
Obama '08
We feel Obama will still Lose..........
After insulting the people of Pennsylvania.........
We do not need a president who slams the people.
Lost our vote.
Now for Hillary Clinton
Clinton 08
So Obama wants to be a Rock Star
LOL
This is just a popularity contest to you
You are the weakest Link and should never Be President
Yessssssssssssssssssss
we can
to all of those reading, remember we have to keep helping the campaign
no matter what the clinton machine cooks up from today to the 4/22 (which she will do) she might cry, she might lie, she will make something up, we all know it and we are tired of it..
Stand up Stand up
change is coming and the clinton machine can not stop it
I would take Sprinstien over Elton John any day of the week... Thank you Bruce!
The "Boss" is backing another loser.
Thank you Bruce, this is why YOU are the Boss!!!!!!!!
We need Barack to UNITE us and NOT DIVIDE us like Annie Oakley is trying to do.
Obama/Edwards 08 Si Se Puede
The right thing to do. Lets unite behind the candidate that gets the nomination and lets not act childish if our candidate loses.
LETS VOTE FOR THE COUNTRY! OBAMA ALL THE WAY!
WILL SUPPORT WHOEVER WINS! DEMOCRATS 09!!!!!
Steelers' owner, the boss . . . this is mainstreet not elite-street.
Obama may close in on Clinton this week. This is better than 1000s of small town mayors–really!
Thats great! Go Obama!
He always picks the winners.
"The Boss" knows who the real deal is.
Very nice...Obama 08
"BRUUUUUUUUCE!"
As most endorsments... that's nice.
The democratic party has been experiencing a slow split for the last 10 years.
Obama has accentuated and capitalized on that schism for personal political gain.
On one side you have the left wing elitists who intellectually embrace the idea of equality- but can not and do not put it into practice.
They continue to look down their noses at the less fortunate, who they label uneducated, and then profess to want to "save them".
They support Obama. Because of his skin color, African Americans also overwhelmingly support him, irregardless of political, educational or economic position
On the other side you have the lifelong democrats who are more centrist and populist. They believe in democracy and have protested marched and worked for equality. They see all Americans as one people with a shared future. They support Clinton.
We WILL NOT come together just for party loyalty and unity in Nov. We have a right and an obligation to support the BEST Candidate.
Like his endorsement really influences how people vote....Why is this news??
Now who could argue with the Boss? C'mon everyone, sing along "Born in the USA, I was born in the USA."
While I usually dismiss celebrity endorsements, the timing on Springsteen backing Obama could be pretty telling. Springsteen has made a career of illustrating the plight of those savaged by an economy collapsing around them. Will this endorsement resonate in Pa.? I think so.
Thank you Bruce! Well said! Go Obama!
Bruce Springsteen's opinion is sure going to swing my vote!
One more reason why "out of touch" is a foolish old politics comment
"Springsteen backed Sen. John Kerry's unsuccessful 2004 presidential bid."
So did half of America, CNN.
Barack Obama IS elitist.
He was elitist as a child when he chose to live in Hawaii with his white grandparents (racist whit granny)...
instead of living in Indonesia with his single (but twice married?) white mother.
Well, unlike Elton John, at lease he's born in the USA...
Ha.. ha... ... *cough*
STOP THE PRESSES!!!!!!!!! THE BOSS!?!?!? Call in the national guard, call off the race, it's officially OVER!
SOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO WHAAAAAAAAAAAATTTTTTTTTTTTTTTTTTTTT???????????????????
Maybe it's The Boss's fault Kerry lost the election. DARN YOU Springsteen, darn you to heck!
Oh Yes..... GAME SET MATCH
