Schneider: What the exit polls will show

[cnn-photo-caption image= http://i.cdn.turner.com/cnn/2008/images/04/16/art.clinton.obama.jpg caption="Both Hillary Clinton and Barack Obama have establised bases according to exit polls."]
(CNN) - The Democratic race has been going on for four months. Is anything changing? The exit polls will tell us.

Each candidate has established a base. Hillary Clinton's includes women, seniors, blue-collar workers, Catholics, and Latinos.

Barack Obama's base includes African-Americans, young voters, affluent professionals, and Independents.

Tonight's exit polls will show whether either candidate is making inroads into the other candidate's base. If nobody's moving, we may be doomed to more weeks of trench warfare, with each side trying to rally higher turnout from its base.

How will we know things are changing?

If she wins Pennsylvania by more than 10 points, which was her margin in neighboring New Jersey and Ohio, we'll know the race is shifting in her favor.

If she wins by a very narrow margin, she's losing momentum.

And if Obama beats her in Pennsylvania? She will face powerful pressure to withdraw rather than further divide the party.

Why is everyone so sure John McCain is such a great candidate. This is like what his third time running obviously there was something about this man that Republicans did not like because in one of those times he would have come close atleast. The reality of it is this race is going to go on no matter what happens. I don't think that most rational people will go against everything they stand for because their candidate did not get the nominee and if that is the case then whatever we get as citizens we deserve it.

As a former Pennsylvania, born and raised in Reading – If I still lived there Hillary would have my vote. She is intelligent, experienced, and I TRUST her.

It not over until the fat lady sings!!

Hillary is the one who should be the nominee – but if that is not in the cards – John McCain will be President.

Either way Obama supporters – be prepared to hear "I told you so"!!!

"If she wins Pennsylvania by more than 10 points, which was her margin in neighboring New Jersey and Ohio, we'll know the race is shifting in her favor."
Are you kidding me? All these pundits prove is that they don't know a thing. Allow both candidates to compete on their own terms. A win for Hillary in Pennsylvania is expected and she needs to cut into his lead by a very wide margin to even consider this race ongoing. A shift in race to her favor would be winning the next seven states straight.
I just wish these pundits would stop being schizophrenic.
I can see the headlines now... Hillary regains momentum in PA and then loses in NC. This will be back and forth but the odds and trends are that this is Obama's nomination unless something improper occurs by the superdelegates.

The attention given to this race if far too great, there will be two other primary in two weeks, and she is expected to lose both, this race just goes on and on and on.

Clinton was up by almost 30% a month ago. If she wins by less than that, then it means she has LOST momentum not gained.

What kind of math allows you to drop 20 points but be gaining in momentum.

Go Hillary. To win in this state where you have been outspent almost 3 to 1 would be a remarkable achievement. I love watching Barack pour his money (there must be less business at Starbucks these days) down a rathole. I can't wait to see the look on Cafferty's face tonight when his boy loses.

As everyone knows.....what this country doesn't need is Obama, who is a total incompetent. No wonder he backed out of another debate. The man cannot begin to explain his position, if he has one, nor elaborate on his 'hope' and 'change' campaign. Voters have been asking for months. Yes, the exit polls will show that Obama will NOT become the next President. Thank Goodness!

He out spent her 3:1 because he has had money funneled to him by Billionaires and still he cant win. His grossly biased allies in the media have dispirted her contributors yet she remains well ahead.

He has won only left wing party activist attended 'beauty shows' knowns as caucases. She has won primaries which are real elections. She says she is more electable well.... duh.

You know, before this election started I thought I'd be able to support either Hillary or Obama – as long as one of them won. As of now I am COMPLETELY turned off by Hillary's politics. She is deceitful and that smirk of hers drives me crazy. That goes for her advisor, Kiki Maclean as well.

We are looking at a State that has voters that are much older and are white. They will never pick Obama as President. They would rather watch the Country go down and vote for McCain then to pick change.

I love Hillay and she will destroy Obama in PA but in the end she will loose the nomination to Obama due to the early wins before people got to know him, Mr Wright, Mr Ayres, Mr Rezko, and Michelle america is mean Obama
He will loose to McBush in the general
