Major Clinton fundraiser switches to Obama

[cnn-photo-caption image= http://i.cdn.turner.com/cnn/2008/images/04/25/art.hillary.ap.jpg caption="Clinton lost a big fundraiser to Obama."](CNN) - A “Hillraiser” – a major fundraiser for Hillary Clinton – said Friday he had defected to Barack Obama’s campaign. The official announcement will be made next week.

Gabriel Guerra-Mondragon – who served as ambassador to Chile during the Clinton administration – had raised close to half a million dollars for Clinton’s campaign, reports Chuck Todd, who broke the story.

"We're just bleeding each other out," Guerra-Mondragon told the Washington Post. "Looking at it as coldly as I can, I just don't see how Senator Clinton can overcome Senator Obama with delegates and popular votes. I want this fight to be over, the quicker the better."

He added that leaving the Clinton campaign for Obama's "was a very, very difficult decision for me to make. I am an old and longtime friend of Senator Clinton. And I continue to think she is a fantastic and formidable person. But I am first of all a Democrat."

  1. great news guys

I fail to see why and how Hillary is hurting the party by running... The primaries are not over yet... let's finish this and have a legitimate candidate. This is sort of a Democracy and we want to count as many votes as possible (NOT ALL THE VOTES CASTED, THAT WILL BE A SIN AND AGAINST THE SACRET RULES OF THE DNC). What many of you that are drunk on the Obama Kool-aid is that your candidate is not really swipping all of us like he does you personally. I for one a lifetime democrat will vote against him. TONE IT DOWN!!!

ugggghhh I'm a democrat first....Since when did being a democrat mean you have to turn on people around you? That comment certainly doesn't do any thing good for the Party!!!

Thank you sir for recognizing the need for the Democratic party to not only survive this primary but also to be able to grow itself and to win in the General Election.

A note to the Clinton supporters after reading the comments all along the Ticker.. what is wrong with all of you? Is your prejudice for the race of this man – and make no mistake, your prejudice is showing all over, is this fear of a man as President who is black, so much stronger than your desire to end a horrible war? So much stronger than repairing our economy? Do you not understand that Senator Clinton cannot win this nomination, short of wrecking the party... Democrats you seriously must overcome your prejudices.

WEAK ! WEAK! WEAK! Just like everyone in the Obama camp. You belong with the team of Democrats that gave up the will and the fight in Florida. They allowed the Republican dominated state representives and Governor move up the primary and not allow the vote to count. We will roll over just like we did with Gore. Why won't Sen.Obama debate Sen. Clinton and why did he fight the Michigan revote. Weak!

I do not want this women any where near the white house. You friends are calling you out of your mind and you thinik I want you to have power of the direction this country goes for the next generation.

I don't have to say anything negative about Hillary Her friends do a better job...lol

I am sure that this comment will be "screened out" by CNN but it is my duty to mention this anyway.

How on earth can an institution such as CNN allow such garbage as said by "sharon walker" (third comment in thread) to be posted for one and all to be seen.

I mean, there is "freedom of speech" and then there is slander. What are these people thinking? (or are they?)

Cnn, please don't post this...but I have read the exact same comment from "ironic" who is a hillary suppoter three times, but I can hardly get one of mine posted.

If this is posted I am going to be upset because many of my other comments were more substantive and included good points.

Jus in case it goes through anyway...Bloggers, I know that many of you are not racist, but your comments imply a lack of understanding.

I'm sorry I keep trolling these boards and spreading misinformation. I've seen the light and will now vote for Obama.

If he were a true Democrat first like he says, then he would realize that Obama is attracting blacks and young people, while not the rest of the true democratic base. But then it seems many feel they better back who they think might win rather than who should win.
I just watched CNN and the Governor of Oklahoma and Wolf and he said he is voting for Obama even though his state didn't is because superdelegates shold have a mind of their own and not have to follow what their constituency did. So please remember that, all you Obama folks who demand that superdelegates vote the way their state did, otherwise be prepared to give him up along with Kennedy, Kerry and Richardson. Or is it fair only if things work in your favor?

I agree...THE CLINTONS are damaging the democratic Party. They are making it worst, She knows she has no way of winning and Wont give up. Sounds to me like someone Stubborn! The Attacks must stop, keep that in the Presidential race. DONT DIVIDE the party.

I regret my vote for Hillary! can we re vote in Wisconsin?

The fund raisers are NOT going to make the decision on who is elected President of the United States the voters are.

Obama can not win the general election.

    "so ironic" –

yeah, you're right, Obama will win the contest as it is laid out. He won't try to change the rules and doesn't say something like "superdelegates shouldn't count" which I'm sure HRC would say if didn't have more of them. He's winning them largely BECAUSE he is winning the country overall. There wasn't too many supporting Gravel, now were there?

Get a life – playing by the rules doesn't make you a hypocrite. It means you have integrity. HRC could possibly take notes at any time...
