Rep. Ike Skelton picks Clinton

[cnn-photo-caption image= http://i.cdn.turner.com/cnn/2008/images/04/29/art.skelton.gi.jpg caption="Skelton is backing Clinton."](CNN) - Missouri Rep. Ike Skelton said Tuesday he will cast his superdelegate vote for Hillary Clinton.

In a statement released by the Clinton campaign, Skelton said he is supporting the New York senator because of "her support in rural America, her commitment to National Security, and her dedication to our men and women in uniform."

Skelton is chairman of the powerful House Armed Services Committee and has served in congress for over 30 years. His state narrowly voted for Barack Obama on February 5, though Clinton won 60 percent of his congressional district.

With Skelton's endorsement, Clinton now holds a 22 superdelegate lead over Obama, 259 to 237, according to CNN's estimate. More than 300 superdelegates have yet to make up their minds.

Skelton is the fourth superdelegate to endorse a candidate Tuesday. Earlier, North Carolina Gov. Mike Easley announced he was backing Clinton and Kentucky Rep. Ben Chandler and Iowa DNC member Richard Machacek announced they were supporting Obama.

ALl those who support Sen. Hillary are just doing it for political purposes, and probably the $109 million of the clintons made in the last 7 years is playing a role in buying all the Governors, PA governer, NC governor, now this guy, it's a shame that some superdelegates get the money from Hillary and endorse her. Shame on Hillary.

This may come as a shock to you but Barack IS American. Have you ever thought about signing up for the Iraqi war? Al Quaeda would love to have you join.

    You're a moron.

Poor Ike. Another remnant of the old and lost generation. Let's start looking into his "leadership" as well of that power Committee. Ah yes, pork and barrel spread for many years to both Bill and Hillary.

This is the type of politics and politician we need to leave behind.

Come forward other men and women of courage and stake your claim for a new, unified, and brighter America under the Obama Administration. You will not regret it.

im sick of listening to msmbc because they cherry pick thier topics. they are up borrack obamas rear endso so far that they can't see the daylight.
senator obama talks about ghange but don't give specifics and no one questions or ask him to break down what his ghanges are . but it seems to me that rev wright knows more about his change policies than any one else, after all how many times did rev wright mention the word ghange in his speech.and if he denounce rev wright he did what any good politician would do under pressure

At this stage of the debates, no one really cares who the winner is. The fact of the matter is: The world was able to see through this election process the flaws inherent to the American society period!

I wonder if they have caught up yet with who the superdelegates are.

At our Arizona state party meeting Saturday, we elected a new first Vice Chair of the party, to fill a vacancy. The position is a Superdelegate position, so it was an important vote.

The winner was Charlene Fernandez. One of the reasons she won was because she was forthright in saying how she will cast her vote (for Obama,) while most of the other candidates were either wishy-washy or didn't say in their speech who they would support. I think that even some borderline Clinton supporters voted for her because they appreciated that she was up front and honest about who she's supporting.

Thank you, Rep. Skelton! As a Clinton supporter in NC, I'm grateful for your recognition that Clinton is indeed the better candidate before our vote on the 6th.

22 super delagate lead? That's one less then she had last week. If she keeps this up, Obama should have the superdelagate lead soon. Hillary is quite a fighter. I mean look at the beating she has, is, and will ultimately take. I just don't see how this serves our party, or our country, but then again, who says that has to be the reason you are running.

Amazing how some people are so negative about their Twice over First Lady who has worked selflessly to give them better healthcare. I strongly believe she the Ultimate wise-winner. Obama should try again in 2016.
