Bill Clinton: High oil prices here to stay

CNN

Watch Bill Clinton's comments Wednesday.

(CNN) – Campaigning for his wife in North Carolina, former President Bill Clinton said Wednesday that he’d be “very surprised if oil goes below a hundred dollars a barrel again in my lifetime.”

“There is a limited amount of oil in the ground and everyday more and more people can afford to buy it so they are gonna bid the price up,” said Clinton, who added that drivers have been forced to choose “between driving to work and having enough food for their kids.”

His wife Hillary Clinton has proposed a gas tax holiday – paid for in part by higher taxes on oil companies - that would give consumers a price break at the pump this summer. The New York senator has also called for a Federal Trade Commission investigation into possible market manipulation by oil companies or speculators.

Bill – if high oil prices are here to stay, how is your wife's gas tax holiday proposal ($28 per avg American) going to be a "REAL SOLUTION" to the ongoing problem of high energy prices?

Billary are talking out of both sides of their mouths as usual. Anything for votes.

Why don't we hear this from Hillary instead of Bill? Clever.

No matter, a windfall tax on the oil companies would go further than HRC's plan. The oil companies have no incentive to invest in other fuel sources–why should they so long as they can make a killing at the pump? Congress should create a penalty for not investing in alternatives or a reward for doing so.

"that would give consumers a price break at the pump this summer"

yea, a whopping $50 savings for the entire summer! why not "get in touch" and push a long term solution like the other candidate?

CNN, MSNBC Hardball & Verdict actually all the channels ..ask "will the Wright issue go away??"
If you guys would let it go away it would!!!
Who invited Wright to speak at the National Press Club Conference???have your pick: republican party supporters and/or Clinton Supporters..
Someone said ( after the Pa. primary) was: the only way Obama might lose the nomination is if something comes to light to weaken Obama's image. All of the press, radio, TV,m newspapers ..have your pick... are doing the job of keeping the Wright issue alive..for whose benefit???

Wasn't there a 5 Cent increase in gas tax during the Clinton Administration (early to mid 90's) that Billy asked for and he got, which by the way we are still are paying it. Ask Ed Shults, they were discussing that on his show. I think it was this past Monday. Apparently that is another reason why Clinton and McCain's gas holiday plan won't work.

President Clinton is probably right, and the gas tax holiday that Hillary is proposing, using oil profits tax to pay for it, is the best plan yet for at least temporary help at the pump. She also has the strongest plan yet to find and build sources of alternative energy.

The clintons should not be worried about high gas prices, they own a share of the oil money with the Saudis, and guess how they made $109.million.

These people, (the Clintons) would not feel a thing, because they don't even buy gas. Everything is been done for them, even their groceries.
Do you think thelClintons' feel your struggle or pain.

    Hell NO!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

He is using a fear tactic to try to push Hillary's gas tax holiday. Oil will definitely not stay above $100 after Bush leaves the White House. Bill knows that. The U.S. has been building a stockpile of oil ever since 9/11 which is larger than it's ever been. The Saudis say that there is plenty of supply in the system right now and current prices have a 30%+ speculation price built in. The low dollar value and the war in Iraq are two huge factors in the cost of oil and once we get a new President who can handle these issues and get America on track these prices will come down quicker than Bill can sneak his mistresses out the back door.

We can thank Bush for the increased oil– How many 100,000 of barrels has he taken off the market and stuck in the strategic reserve since he became President?

Want cheaper oil? Tell him to release some of those.

  18. WAKE UP PEOPLE!

Ok, great Bill. So AFTER the summer everyone can get back to not feeding the kids once the gas tax is implemented back.

Come on people, see it for what it is, PONDERING.

Here's a question for Hillary during that circus stop at the gas station: How many fill up can you get with 109 millions?

And for those that have forgotten, BILL were is the donor list that we are still waiting for?

  19. Barackin Out!!!!

A gas tax holiday is a quick fix. It will only be for THIS summer, what about next Fall??? The price of gas is going to continue to go up and once the holiday is over (this Fall) It will suddenly go up 18+ cents and that will hit our pockets harder than anything else. Come up with a real solution, we are adults, we are too old for the flashing lights and smoke, we see through the nonsense.
    OBAMA 08!!!!!!
We vote here in NC next week, lets see what excuse Bill and Hill give for stayin in the race once they get blown out here...

I think Bill is trying to imply that with his economics, he can bring it back down. No Bill, you are wrong. Hillary's support for the war in Iraq is the main reason why the price of oil is so high.

  22. Bitter Allen Hissein from Visalia

Well Bubba, I think with peak oil looming, you are correct in that oil will not go below $100 for any significant length of time. So what would the purpose of cutting the gas tax be other than a meaningless band-aid. Shouldn't Hillary be campaigning on upgrading our railroads, finding alternative energy and advocating energy conservation? No that makes too much sense for her, why do that when she can score cheap political points by adopting McCain's ideas.

You gotta love the reality of a king, no matter which one he happens to be experiencing at the moment. But let's take a look at the reality where only the number of opened refineries determines the price of oil, and not oil's ultimate availablilty in the ground. Then why hasn't that patriot, [R] savior, and economic champion Bush opened hundreds of new refineries to drive the cost of oil and gas way down, as the king supposes Clinton should have done when he was president? Why Bush must be an laughable idiot! ....by king's own logic.

The sad thing is, all you neo-reality kings out there that put this current cretin-in-charge in office - TWICE - are having real difficulty in understanding that no matter HOW you try to justify your pathitic failure with twisted logic, YOU elected someone so pathetic, he is an IDIOT in any reality - and by the logic I learned in school, therefore so are YOU!

Since 2001, InfoUSA has paid Bill Clinton $3.3 million, although it’s not at all clear what he was supposed to do for the money — other than fly on the company’s jet for vacations and golf games with InfoUSA’s CEO. InfoUSA CEO, Vin Gupta, has made the InfoUSA corporate jet available for the Clintons to travel in style to Hawaii, Switzerland and Jamaica — at a cost of more that $900,000

These are the con artist who take advantage of our seniors and Hillary Clinton knows about it. As long as the Clinton's get paid it alright!!!!
