[cnn-photo-caption image= http://i.cdn.turner.com/cnn/2008/images/05/07/art.clintonmoney.gi.jpg caption=" Clinton has loaned her campaign a total of $11.4 million."]WASHINGTON (CNN) - Democrat Hillary Clinton has loaned her presidential race $6.4 million over the last month, bringing the total amount of money she has lent herself to $11.4 million.
And she is willing to lend herself more money, top adviser Howard Wolfson told reporters Wednesday, a day after Clinton eked out a narrow victory over Sen. Barack Obama in Indiana's Democratic primary but lost to him by a landslide in North Carolina.
The $11.4 million she has lent her campaign this year is about the same as the amount she earned from book sales and her Senate salary, Wolfson said.
On a conference call with reporters, Wolfson said the loan proves Clinton is committed to staying in the presidential race.
"The loans are a sign of her commitment to continuing the race, her commitment to continuing the process and her commitment to staying competitive with Senator Obama on television and other areas," he said.
"The campaign continues to raise a lot of money, but Senator Obama, to his credit, is also raising a lot of money."
Clinton loaned herself $5 million on April 11, $1 million on May 1 and $425,000 since then, the campaign said Wednesday. The senator from New York loaned her campaign $5 million in February.
Clinton began the month of April with close to $32 million in cash on hand, but only $9 million of that total could be spent during the primary season, according to the most recent campaign reports filed with the Federal Election Commission.
The report also showed that Clinton owed more than $10 million, meaning she was in the red even before she heavily stepped up television advertising ahead of the Pennsylvania primary in late April.
The day after her convincing Pennsylvania win on April 22, the Clinton campaign said it raised $10 million on the Internet. The campaign has not said how much it has raised since her close win in Indiana and her North Carolina loss Tuesday.

the bank of hillary... can I perhaps refinance my mortgage at a lower rate?
Ouch. Might as well just throw the money away.
Clinton –
Please bow out gracefully. I believe she is staying in this campaign to pay off her debt. earlier this year she loaned campaign 5 million. Now this, just end this and start uniting the party.
Obama '08
And she wants to reform our economic situation.
Boy, I wish I had that kind of money. What happened to all that money she got after PA? Was that another mis-speak? Stop the blood letting and drop out. Help to heal not tear apart.
So, did she raise the ten million she said she did after the Pennsylvania primary? She had debt to pay off. It's time the DNC steps in and says enough is enough.
CNN your reporting is so below par. Is this $6.4 million in addition to the $5 million she lent her campaign in feb???
And yet she still won't bow out graciously. This power hungry woman is delusional. This is an indication of how she will run our economy folks. Pay real close attention. This says about all.
Deck chairs. Titanic.
omg....Clinton supporters....its time....enough!!! Now do you see what she is all about??
I'm a Republican – I support Obama...and there are many more non-Democrats who also support him...we need to join the country – not divide it....Hillary is not the answer (unless the question was "who lied more than any politician...while simultaneously being attacked by artificial snipers")
Obama will make a deal with Hillary to pay off her debts in order for her to go away quietly. How sad that she can't handle her money and will need Barack to pay off her debts for her.
This just further proves she's a lunatic! She will stoop to any low to try and get herself elected! She can't win, not against Barack and not against McCain!
SUPERS – SEND HER HOME NOW!
OBAMA 08!
AND HER SUPPORTERS WILL HAVE TO PAY HER BACK.
Ouch, talk about a bad investment.
ROFLMAO.....lost her support so she has to loan herself money.....AGAIN.
There is wisdom in knowing when to call it a day. Clearly Hillary does not have that.
Hang it up kiddo....your time has come and gone.
OBAMA 08
I wonder where she got the money???? Release your taxes Hillary!!!
I heard recently the amount of money she made online may be questionable. This may seem to confirm this. Great example of what happens when special interest money runs out!
LOL... what else can she do?!?!?
She has no choice.
Who is the Elitist now with the type of money to LOAN HERSELF.... hmmm
Senator Clinton has proven time and time again that she is willing to invest in her campaign because she believes in helping Americans have a better life.
But if she loses we (Clinton supporters) will have to find hope in a better America by voting for McCain.
I really thought the Democrats had this election won. Maybe next time.
Talk about an ELITIST!
Barack Obama 08!
AGAIN?????? Last time it was 5 million. What a looser. She is willing to spend what little money you HILLBOTS give her on a lost cause, what kind of leadership is that?? Not what I would call good judgement.
This speaks volumes to me and it should to you too. That was the first thing out of her mouth last night. "I need money!!!"
So, the writing is on the wall people, we just need to stay strong and whoever the nom is, we have to support to beat mccbush!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
I guess that how that "$10,000,000" in donations reported came about. She ran a good race, but it's over. No jokes, no negativity.
Obama 08
Just think think for a moment: If this is how she is managing her campaign – having to loan herself money – How would she be to manage the country as a President? Would she loan the country money? Would you cut salaries for stop-gap measures?
Sorry, Hillary, your track record does not inspire confidence.
Obama '08
Will CNN give this same type of attention to Obama is he secures the nomination and competes against McCain?
In my opinion, CNN has handled this election poorly and unfair in terms of coverage.
Today is the beginning of the end of Hillary. If she was such a great candidate why can't she raise the money need to run her campain?
