Clinton loans herself $6.4 million

[cnn-photo-caption image= caption=" Clinton has loaned her campaign a total of $11.4 million."]WASHINGTON (CNN) - Democrat Hillary Clinton has loaned her presidential race $6.4 million over the last month, bringing the total amount of money she has lent herself to $11.4 million.

And she is willing to lend herself more money, top adviser Howard Wolfson told reporters Wednesday, a day after Clinton eked out a narrow victory over Sen. Barack Obama in Indiana's Democratic primary but lost to him by a landslide in North Carolina.

The $11.4 million she has lent her campaign this year is about the same as the amount she earned from book sales and her Senate salary, Wolfson said.

On a conference call with reporters, Wolfson said the loan proves Clinton is committed to staying in the presidential race.

"The loans are a sign of her commitment to continuing the race, her commitment to continuing the process and her commitment to staying competitive with Senator Obama on television and other areas," he said.

"The campaign continues to raise a lot of money, but Senator Obama, to his credit, is also raising a lot of money."

Clinton loaned herself $5 million on April 11, $1 million on May 1 and $425,000 since then, the campaign said Wednesday. The senator from New York loaned her campaign $5 million in February.

Clinton began the month of April with close to $32 million in cash on hand, but only $9 million of that total could be spent during the primary season, according to the most recent campaign reports filed with the Federal Election Commission.

The report also showed that Clinton owed more than $10 million, meaning she was in the red even before she heavily stepped up television advertising ahead of the Pennsylvania primary in late April.

The day after her convincing Pennsylvania win on April 22, the Clinton campaign said it raised $10 million on the Internet. The campaign has not said how much it has raised since her close win in Indiana and her North Carolina loss Tuesday.

I like that she is willing to put her money where her mouth is. Every state should feel that their vote counts. Having her in the race is going to bring even more new voters into the democratic party.

She is brilliant. She knows that she is going to lose, but is willing to invest her own money in order to get more people involved in the process. This is really going to pay off in the GE.

I am amazed at the brilliance and selflisness of this woman.

How is she loading herself $11 million? I know that I don't understand this process at all. Is she expecting someone to pay her back the money that she lend herself? Someone, please enlighten me.

Great job to those in NC and Indiana, I say let Hillary continue the madness, maybe she will cut into Chelsea's 600 000 dollar income and ask for a loan. In reality its time for the DNC leader to get the leash and get the pitbull undercontrol!!!!

Hillary is always copying Obama's words!
Her campaign is clearly running out of money and she's not winning! If cant figure out, its time to QUIT, then she is a BAD politician! She is not worried with you! Its ALL about BUSINESS to her! She needs to pay back the lobbists.......thats clear! And if u elect her, then America is the DUMBEST nation in the world and u deserve all u get!

Hillary Clinton should use her tax relief check to give her campaign a boost because she is toast. Lady, you ARE NOT GOING to get the nomination unless you steal it. Have you thought why Senator Obama keeps getting donations of less than $100? Because he is for the people and by the people.

Mc Cains wife loaned/donated money to his ailing campaign and FERC made the campaigh pay it back as even spouses have a limit on what they can "donate" to the cause!

Didn't the "filly" Hillary stated she wanted to win the Derby this past weekend , break both front legs and was euthanized on the tracks?

Can the same be said of her campaign? It needs to be euthanized!

Wow thats a lot of money and a possible waste of money. I have a feeling she's going to end up like Romeny no nomination and no money.

"The total amount of money she has lent herself to $11.4 million." Meanwhile, Barack Obama keeps setting records with the amount of money coming in every month. Here's a clue, Hillary... your campaign is a failure.

Obama again overspent and still loses.

Hillary won consecutively in Ohio, Texas, Pennsylvannia and Indiana while Hillary cut Obama's lead in North Carolina from 20% in February down to 14% only.

Good job Hillary. Wake up superdelegates!

I'm an Obama supporter who is ashamed at the way fellow dems are bashing Hillary and/or threatening to vote for McCain. Have you lost your minds? The enemy is neither Hillary nor Barak, it's McCain and the republican machine. Should you side with him over sour grapes you become as big a threat to living things as he is.
    Get a grip!!!

Well, it looks as if we are going to have four more years of the GOP in charge. How sad, in a year we should have won hands down! I'm sure the Obama-bots threatening to riot if their nominee is not selected by the superdelegates will play into their decision. We held the O J trail in So. LA, so as to avoid race riots. So much evidence, who would have thought race would over rule? Two hours to deliberate a 9 month long trail. How many of you Obama-bots thought O J was innocent? Obama will most likely lose the general election, fear will not work in his favor in November. He has managed to divide this party more then anyone before him. His supporters spew venom and that reflects on their choice.

    Hey joyce,

African americans always vote in a large block for candidates that represent their interests. Back in the 90's, African americans got the Clintons elected. But they have change to race baiting, slash and burn monsters that AA's no longer want to support. That's what happened to the vote. Now Hillary receives just as many votes as Bush in the AA community.

The real shame is the horrible way the Clintons have run this campaign.

For those who are convinced that Obama cannot defeat McCain: how can Clinton beat McCain if she cannot beat Obama? Let's not forget that there are a lot of skeletons in the Clintons' collective closet, and the republicans will not hesitate to pull them out. I can see the very first TV ad now: footage of Clinton's reception in Bosnia, overlaid with her recent accounts of sniper fire. Then the screen transitions to McCain returning from North Vietnam upon being freed.

The sad fact of the matter is that these candidates have so fractured the Democratic party that McCain is practically guaranteed to win in November.

Hillary, it's really time to call it quits. You've fought a good fight (albeit a dirty one), but it's time to call it quits before you destroy everyone's credibility (most of all your own).

Congrats Obama on locking up something that you essentially had locked up 2 months ago.

    Vote Obama.

Just visually looking at that amount of money makes me sick. Yet we're headed towards a recession, gas and food prices are out of control. The rich get richer and the poor get poorer! Sad but true

Only an elitist can loan that type of money.

    She's a fraud.

Should have used it for protection against sniper fire.
