McAuliffe says Clinton staying in, will win popular vote

McAuliffe said Clinton is in the race through June 3.

McAuliffe said Clinton is in the race through June 3.

(CNN) - Despite calls from some for Hillary Clinton to abandon her presidential bid, her campaign chairman insisted Monday she will stay in the race until the last primary and predicted the New York Democrat will overtake Barack Obama in the popular vote.

“We are going through to June 3," Clinton Campaign Chairman Terry McAuliffe said on MSNBC Monday. "I can unequivocally tell you we are in until June 3.”

“We will move ahead in the popular vote. There are 1.1 million Democrats in West Virginia, there are 1.6 million in Kentucky, 2.4 million in Puerto Rico. We win by these huge margins, have good turnout there, we will pick up a significant amount of the popular vote."

Polls show Clinton will likely score big wins in the next two primary states, West Virginia and Kentucky, though it remains virtually impossible for the New York senator to catch Obama in the pledged delegate count. She lost her lead among the party’s superdelegates on Monday.

Montana and South Dakota hold the last two primary contests on June 3.

    WISER NOW,

If Clinton endorses Obama after he wins the nomination, do you really want to slap her in the face?

Please reconsider, if clinton wins i will vote her.

    Please,
    Ronald

Come on West Virginia! Let's make history together and give Hillary a big win tomorrow and a boost she truely deserves. Hillary has shown us time after time that she's strong, intelligent, and a fighter and she will fight for us. She is the one with real solutions to help fix our economy, our country. GO HILLARY!

Even if this happened, that popular vote in P.R., which has no vote in the General Election, really shouldn't mean anything. Jay Gore won the popular vote by 600,000 in 2000. How'd he make out?

It's too bad so many hard working people are giving to Hillary's campaign to pay her debts and people like this guy and don't forget her $11.4 million. Of course they are in it till June. A big win in West Virginia means more money, money, money. She can't pay herself back if she gets out of the race.

No one wants to be bamboozled when the economy is this bad. The price of gas means nothing to this guy. If they owe Penn $4.5 million. Imagine what he's getting.

Wasn't it Hillary who said little states don't count???? Now all of a sudden the Mecca of the United States has become West Virginia????? I just hope the election there is fair, with no funny business going on. Obama not only has to worry about McCain, but he is also just one person fighting the Clintons. It's a good thing he's young.

  12. What else are they going to say?

    Come on...
Every time they come out and mention yet another "glimmer of hope", I can only feel for the folks who are being conned into donating for the sole purpose of repaying her loans.
We'll give her these last couple of contests to give her the dignity she deserves. And, then? Time to get behind Obama and get in the game with McCain.

You don't win by the "popular vote" if you count in all the Caucus states. Oh, you don't consider those "real" contests, so of course you wouldn't count those.

    Hypocrites.

Seat FL & MI based on the elections that have taken place.
(Obama does not get MI 55 uncommitted).
    Required: 2208.5
    Current Obama lead: 52.5

There are certainly enough votes around the country that will not go for Obama, They will either write her in or vote McCain. These are the ones who vote American, not party line. There are a lot of independents too, amazing, if you all are such good democrats then why do you beat up on two of the most loyal & dedicated democrats of all time.-Bill & Hill. If you look at the math honestly, he doesn't add up either so the game's not over. God I hope we don't get another inexperienced idiot again this time (Obama and his angry wife), God that's an angry acting woman. I don't want her representing us.

i think the reason clinton is staying in the race is she wants to be asked the VP thing but it seems nobody is offering her. folks please tell her not to spend the'109 million' thing.

    1) Popular vote total does not include caucuses, which Obama won by huge margins.
    2) Is he counting Michigan and Florida? If so, is he giving Obama any votes from Michigan?

Hard working white American for Obama.

This presidential election will go down in history as the best of times and the worst of times. The best being 3 wonderful candidates–one, a woman, one a minority and one being a very intelligent and humorous senior citizen . These three cross all barriers and are all more than qualified to occupy the office. The worst of times being the media bias and controlling attitude of the DNC. LET THE PEOPLE VOTE!
