Obama to deliver commencement address for Kennedy

[cnn-photo-caption image= caption="Obama will deliver Wesleyan's commencement address."](CNN) - Barack Obama will take Sen. Ted Kennedy's place in delivering the commencement address at Wesleyan University this Sunday.

According to Kennedy's Senate Office, Obama offered to take the Massachusetts senator's place earlier this week after Kennedy was diagnosed with brain cancer.

"Senator Kennedy accepted knowing it would be an historic opportunity for the school and all those attending, including his daughter Caroline Raclin who is graduating and his son Ted Jr. who is attending his reunion," Kennedy's office said in a statement. "He's enormously grateful to Senator Obama and the support he's received from all of his colleagues this last week.”

It will be nice to have a man of honor anda gentleman in the White House for a change. This is part of the change he is promoting. If the shoe were on the foot of the other Dem. canidate I'm sure her speech would begin "Please go to and give 'til it hurts, after all, it's ALL about ME!"

There are so many negative folks in the world today. It is amazing that any of them are able to make it through the day...

Let a good deed be just that.... a good deed!

Well, how many times will we hear Civil Rights. I'm sure we will hear about a 46 year old black man having the opportunity to run for President. If I don't hear that, I might think better of Obama. I am sick of him playing the race card at every opportunity.

I wish Senator Kennedy a speedy recovery. I am really praying that his situation can be fixed.

But Senator Obama, that is so nice of you. " Young men I call upon you because you are stong". I can see that you are a true trooper, I look forward to seeing you in the White House.

And they have been friends how long? All about timing isn't it....

Anyone who says too much will be fussed at because of the condition of Ted Kennedy so you have to be careful here also.

Hillary all the way for me..

Whether it is a political move or not, Ted Kennedy would not let just anybody step in for him to make that speech. Jealousy, resentment and, OH GOD! might I say bitterness are all such very unattractive emotional masks. The bottom line is that the man is sick. People should just respect this, his decision to let Obama step in, and pray for Kennedy if you believe in any God that is good. So what if the other "oppressed woman" candidate attended the school. The students can still appease her with their votes if they want.

to all the nay-sayers and mean spirited people out there, why is it so hard to imagine that someone would just do something nice and thoughtful to help out a friend.

    B. Obama is genuinely a decent person, he has shown this time and time again.

In response to H in this post.

It is sad that you do not understand the sentiment that was intended. It's not for publicity, believe it or not friends help one another.

Obama, you will make Sen. Kennedy proud as you have made us proud of you.

    OBAMA 08.

I love it, if he didn't offer to do it, Hillary would have, however Ted didn't offer his support to her – so she didn't. But because Obama does then it's seen as sly and sneaky – Why are Hillary supporters crying foul over this? If Hillary was doing it, you'd all be grappling to say how nice she is!

Take it for what it is, political games, a gesture of friends ship to a sick friend? Who cares – for the grads' that day it'll be an experiance of a life time – don't try and shaddow it with your political bitterness!

Hey you Obama haters, can you read? Kennedy asked him to take his place, one more time, Kennedy asked him to take his place. You haters are disgusting, petty ignorant people.

How disgusting it is for Obama to take advantage of a sad situation only to indulge himself in this oppurtunistic event to amplify his campaign. This man is not qualified to run this nation in already in trouble. His resumé is not par compared to that of Clinton's or even Mccain!

A good man, a good democrat and a fine human being. That can be said of both Kennedy and Obama without reservation.
