Update: McCain in 'excellent health,' doctor says

[cnn-photo-caption image= http://i.l.cnn.net/cnn/2008/HEALTH/05/23/mccain.health.records/art.mccain.ap.jpg caption="Sen. McCain, who turns 72 in August, could become the oldest person elected to a first term as president."]
FOUNTAIN HILLS, Arizona (CNN) - - There's no medical reason to prevent Sen. John McCain from being president, the doctor for the presumptive GOP nominee said in a statement the McCain campaign released Friday.

"At the present time, Sen. McCain enjoys excellent health and displays extraordinary energy," said Dr. John D. Eckstein, an internal medicine specialist at the Mayo Clinic who has treated the candidate for 16 years.

"While it is impossible to predict any person's future health, today I can find no medical reason or problems that would preclude Sen. McCain from fulfilling all the duties and obligations of president of the United States."

McCain, who turns 72 in August, would be the oldest person to be elected to a first term as president if he wins in November. He has been treated for skin cancer three times and was a prisoner of war in the Vietnam War for 5½ years.

Poor grand pa(MCcain ) has been forced to release his medical records-now is nt that abuse? We want the rcords of the other two candidates especially Clinton,we are not sure whether she is not demented .Look at the way she run her campaign, completely into a ditch of debts and now she has a completely disastrous maths of delegates-pls we want Hillary's mental health records

He sure in the hell looks better than Jack Cafferty, but he didn't
spend all those years drinking himself to death.

Everyone knows the presidency will add 10 years to the president. McCain is 72 in four years he will be as 82- 8 years he will be as 92
andIi don't think we want this running our country with his hair-trigger
temper. If we think Bush was bad just wait MCain would have to depend on his cabinet to make the major decision for this country.
    Think america!

  5. Karen,

I, like Richard, worry a lot more about his Mental Health should he make it to be President, which I doubt.
He seems to have a lot of Senior Moments!!!!

    Mark Twain once said:

"Age is an issue of mind over matter. If you don't mind, it dosn't matter"

I am happy that McCain is in good health but I still feel he is too old to be president. On his list of medications was the prescription drug "Ambien" If you know anything about medicine, he won't be answering the phone at 3am!

That's great. I'm glad the little jerk is feeling well. I happen to be more concerned, however, with why Hillary would make the awful comments that she made earlier today. Every site is talking about it except for CNN.

Glad he is in good physical health, thats great to hear. However I am still for Obama!!!

Does not change the fact McCain is still Bushes Third term... and wants to get back at the world before he rests his hat on the door and calls it a day!..

Finally some good news for McCain being reported by the media. He has good genes and good patriotic heart. He is the problem solver we need in the White House, instead of a tax increasing problem talker like Obama.

He could use a good mental health evaluation though – if at 71 he's still unable to control his temper, that's a problem.
