Dole to McClellan: You're a 'miserable creature'

(CNN) - Bob Dole is furious with Scott McClellan's public criticisms of the Bush administration, telling the former White House Press Secretary in an e-mail Thursday he is a "miserable creature" who is "spurred on by greed."
"There are miserable creatures like you in every administration who don’t have the guts to speak up or quit if there are disagreements with the boss or colleagues," Dole wrote in the personal e-mail. "No, your type soaks up the benefits of power, revels in the limelight for years, then quits, and spurred on by greed, cashes in with a scathing critique."
Dole spokesman Michael Marshall confirmed the authenticity of the e-mail, first reported by Politico and obtained by CNN.
Dole, the former Senate Majority Leader and 1996 Republican presidential nominee, also tells McClellan he is likely looking to "clean up" as "the liberal anti-Bush press will promote your belated concerns with wild enthusiasm."
"When the money starts rolling in you should donate it to a worthy cause, something like, 'Biting The Hand That Fed Me,'" he wrote. "Another thought is to weasel your way back into the White House if a Democrat is elected. That would provide a good set up for a second book deal in a few years."
Dole also made clear he has no plans to read the book.
"I have no intention of reading your 'exposé' because if all these awful things were happening, and perhaps some may have been, you should have spoken up publicly like a man, or quit your cushy, high profile job," he wrote. "That would have taken integrity and courage but then you would have had credibility and your complaints could have been aired objectively."
"You're a hot ticket now but don't you, deep down, feel like a total ingrate?"

The miserable, double-talking, belatedly truth telling Scott should have stood up and said something when it mattered.
Truth is, Scotty chose Bush, and now he is choosing Obama.
He is obviously a poor judge of presidential material- or... he want to write another tell-all book in 5 years.
It's sad... What choice do we have now? Confirmative action president or one more republican (big corps) term? No more decent people left in America?
Oh get over it Bob Dole, you are just hacked off because your buddy Bush got his butt handed to him over the Iraq war. Most if not all Americans knew Bush was lying about the war to begin with, the silly, sorry you know what should be impeached. They will impeach a sitting President for lying about sex but not for lying about the reasons to go to war. This should show everyone what Clinton or Obama is in for should one of them get elected, sad isn’t it.
I like the comment that the American people paid McClellan's salary, not Bush. Wish more Republicans would remember that. But McClellan was a wimp not to take a stand back when he was spewing what was even then, such obvious lies. If more prominent people had stood up, and if more average Americans had stood up– we wouldn't be in the mess we are now.
Shut up, Dole. You're bashing the messenger because you know you can't bash the message.

Bob Dole – VP for 2008 McCain?
Reality is that McCellan was writing this book for quite a while. Are people, including Bob Dole, really so delusional to think that he just wrote this publication. It has been delayed several times.
Why is it so difficult to believe that Scott was caught up in the process and when finally disillusioned, did resign. Which he did.
Obviously the White House – The President, Vice-President and all the staff are squeaky clean. All made of the same teflon that Monica's ex-boyfriend is made of. These are the people who lied about Iraq, who have been accused as the most secretive administration since Nixon and you are throwing mud at the messenger? Lisa (12:38), you are so spot on!!!
Thank goodness Dole never became president! He's always been a partisan, low-blow hatchet-man and his temper is almost as scary as McCain's!
I have to quibble with Dole and other members of the Republican part on this one. McClellan's publisher is notorious for giving unusually low advances. There's a story in Salon.com by an author on the same publisher, and they confirmed this. Essentially, McClellan's advance was below 100,000. That's not enough to legitimize the claim that this is powered by greed.
I also have to ask McClellan why he didn't quit in protest. Ford's Press Secretary did so after the Nixon pardon.
