Dole to McClellan: You're a 'miserable creature'

[cnn-photo-caption image= http://i.cdn.turner.com/cnn/2008/images/05/30/art.dole.gi.jpg caption="Dole is not happy with McClellan."]

(CNN) - Bob Dole is furious with Scott McClellan's public criticisms of the Bush administration, telling the former White House Press Secretary in an e-mail Thursday he is a "miserable creature" who is "spurred on by greed."

"There are miserable creatures like you in every administration who don’t have the guts to speak up or quit if there are disagreements with the boss or colleagues," Dole wrote in the personal e-mail. "No, your type soaks up the benefits of power, revels in the limelight for years, then quits, and spurred on by greed, cashes in with a scathing critique."

Dole spokesman Michael Marshall confirmed the authenticity of the e-mail, first reported by Politico and obtained by CNN.

Dole, the former Senate Majority Leader and 1996 Republican presidential nominee, also tells McClellan he is likely looking to "clean up" as "the liberal anti-Bush press will promote your belated concerns with wild enthusiasm."

"When the money starts rolling in you should donate it to a worthy cause, something like, 'Biting The Hand That Fed Me,'" he wrote. "Another thought is to weasel your way back into the White House if a Democrat is elected. That would provide a good set up for a second book deal in a few years."

Dole also made clear he has no plans to read the book.

"I have no intention of reading your 'exposé' because if all these awful things were happening, and perhaps some may have been, you should have spoken up publicly like a man, or quit your cushy, high profile job," he wrote. "That would have taken integrity and courage but then you would have had credibility and your complaints could have been aired objectively."

"You're a hot ticket now but don't you, deep down, feel like a total ingrate?"

What in the world is wrong with Geraldine Ferraro. There is no such person as a Reagan democrat. If you voted for Ronald Reagan and you were a democrat that only makes you a confused republican. Sorry to get off track.

At least he realized his mistakes and had the gut to let the public know the truth behind the Bush Administration's atrocities throughout the world.

I'm not sure whether he could change anything by resigning the post which he eventually did. He certainly was not a policy make rather a policy seller.

After reading some of these comments, I'm pretty convinced that HRC supporters are not Democrats, but Republicans. Why else would they use the Scott McClellan story as an opportunity to beat up on Obama – who has absolutely nothing to do with this? Write-in all you want, but know that you'll be responsible for dealing with another four years of Republican lies and probably a war in Iran. It's just irresponsible.

    Dear CNN

The first comment on this thread is about McCain and Veteran's ire towards McCain's vote on the GI Bill. This article is about Scott McClellan and Bob Dole. Why can't you force your moderators to stay on topic. It's not like there aren't six thousand stories about McCain, Veterans, the Iraq War, Barack Obama and Congress on the politics page alone.

Also can the people who comment in all-caps be banned? It's f-- annoying.

How is it that Obama talks about hope and change and draws such vehement hatred from people? Why do you hate this guy so much? What's at the root of your dislike? What exactly has he done to deserve this negative backlash when he's been so positive? Is it that he's beaten your candidate? Or are you mad that Hillary beat herself? Is it that a black man had the audacity to win? Why are you stuck on the petty issues of race and sex? What's sad is that the negativity and division actually reflects the negativity and division of much of the country. Obama '08!

Bob dole what hole did you crawl out of, back from the dead i see the pot calling the kettle black how hyprocritical. Every one knows the bush admininstration did not have just cause to invade iraq. Mcclellan was wrong for not exposing what he knew sooner, every of one them should be brought up on war crime ,and serve year upon years in prison.

Scott only spoke out too late and when there was money to be made and no political risk.

This man misread Bush and he now supports Obama.

    What does that tell you?

"I'm Bob Dole, and Bob Dole would never read such a thing" Another shoot the messenger criticising the Commander in Chief. McClellan's motives may be a little suspect, but he has the right to do it. I think Americans really need to look at how Republicans are becoming more fascist like if anyone dares criticizes the government.

You know, maybe if this was the first book to come out from a former Bush-insider to blast the Bush administration, maybe I'd have some doubts about its credibility...

Since its the... 6th, 7th to come out singing the same song, Dole can take his criticisms and shove them up his ancient, arthritic arse!

Get off it, Dole. Why in heck didn't YOU and yours speak up, when you had so many chances AND the cover of the Senate.

We should all be grateful for these whistle-blowers. There is nothing to be ashamed of here, except maybe that he should have been more aware of the outrageous, unacceptable level of games-playing by Rove, Cheney, Libby....I could clearly understand why it all seemed too unbelievable at the time, to even consider that our highest office in the land could be in any way corrupt, run by a gang of thugs.

Thank you, Mr. McClelland, from a sane America.

In Dole's defense…I can't stand looking at the little bug. He is so pasty.

I have no issues with McClellan exposing the administration if it is the truth, but the fact that he is looking to make money off of it makes me suspicious if it is the whole truth. If he has such a conscience, he is scum for waiting until it was all over before blowing the whistle on it.

Why McClellan did not stood up then and not resigned are irrelevant. Why we were misguided into a war is the issue. I wish Dole was honest enough to comment about it instead of calling him a "creature".

Well, Well, Well, Bob, I didn't know that the truth would make you so upset. You knew what was happening and you didn't speak up, so what the problem. You are on the attack because Scott had a sudden attack of conscious. I know its rare among rare among you PUBLICANC, but it dose happen.
It really bother you people that someone exposed that ling, drunkard, dope head little coward and his band of CRIMINALS.
FLASH: 71% of the American public already knew this, so relax and come to the realization that America knows all about you and your dirty little party.

Funny how Dole criticizes McClellan as if he is violating the GOP's (undoubtedly) high standards of integrity and honesty.

Yes, the party of Abramoff, Cheney, Rumsfeld, and now McCain has no room for the likes of Scott McClellan.
