Dole to McClellan: You're a 'miserable creature'

[cnn-photo-caption image= http://i.cdn.turner.com/cnn/2008/images/05/30/art.dole.gi.jpg caption="Dole is not happy with McClellan."]

(CNN) - Bob Dole is furious with Scott McClellan's public criticisms of the Bush administration, telling the former White House Press Secretary in an e-mail Thursday he is a "miserable creature" who is "spurred on by greed."

"There are miserable creatures like you in every administration who don’t have the guts to speak up or quit if there are disagreements with the boss or colleagues," Dole wrote in the personal e-mail. "No, your type soaks up the benefits of power, revels in the limelight for years, then quits, and spurred on by greed, cashes in with a scathing critique."

Dole spokesman Michael Marshall confirmed the authenticity of the e-mail, first reported by Politico and obtained by CNN.

Dole, the former Senate Majority Leader and 1996 Republican presidential nominee, also tells McClellan he is likely looking to "clean up" as "the liberal anti-Bush press will promote your belated concerns with wild enthusiasm."

"When the money starts rolling in you should donate it to a worthy cause, something like, 'Biting The Hand That Fed Me,'" he wrote. "Another thought is to weasel your way back into the White House if a Democrat is elected. That would provide a good set up for a second book deal in a few years."

Dole also made clear he has no plans to read the book.

"I have no intention of reading your 'exposé' because if all these awful things were happening, and perhaps some may have been, you should have spoken up publicly like a man, or quit your cushy, high profile job," he wrote. "That would have taken integrity and courage but then you would have had credibility and your complaints could have been aired objectively."

"You're a hot ticket now but don't you, deep down, feel like a total ingrate?"

NO BOB, IT'S YOU WHO IS AND WILL ALWAYS BE THE 'MISERABLE CREATURE'. Every Repub. that tries to put McClennan under b/c of his honesty is exposing themselves. These people (Bush Admin. and all of their cronnies) think they are above the law! This is why Obama is going to win!

Cindy, you shouldn't tattle, because when you tattle on someone else, you're really tattling on yourself....

LOL, this isn't the Brady Bunch – we want the administration of our country 'tattled on" if they're lying to the American people and doing illegal things.

I couldn't disagree more with senator Dole. People like him believe that you go to Washington to work and be forever loyal to a President like Bush. The truth of the matter is that the McClellans of the world do not work for presidents. They work for the American people. That's where their loyalty must lie. Bush doesn't pay anyone's salary at the White House. The American people do. I don't buy this notion about being loyal to a president. A president is just a boss. Country must come first, and I commend McClellan for his revelations.

Bob–isn't the idea that "some of these awful things may have been happening" infinitely more important than McClellan's motives? If you have suspiscions of "awful things", why don't you man up and say what they are?

Bob dole hit the ol' nail on the head. McClellan's book is very Johnny-come-lately and conspicuosly timed to hit the election year. If he had peoblems such as these he should have stepped down from his elite job and spoken up while the iron was hot.

  13. Brain Dead ZOMBIE

If Obama is chosen and loses the election then Hillary is the only one to blame because she has brainwashed her week minded supporters not to vote for the Democratic party.
As this drags out it becomes difficult for her to fix what she has done.

Any Democrat at this point should win against the Bushes 3rd term that is if the Brain Dead Zombies wake up.

How many more innocent lives will be lost in the next 4 to 8 yrs? How many more trillions will be spent?

    Wake up Zombies!!!!!

Paid for by the Democratic party 2008

How much money has Bob Dole earned as a lobbyist by trading on his political connections? What's that phrase about pots and kettles?

He reps Archer Daniels Midland, for one. I'm sure they employ him only because he's a fan of agribusiness and not because he's a former Senator with deep connections in Washington.

    Money quote:

"if all these awful things were happening, and perhaps some may have been..."

    Exactly.

All those attacking McClellan on his motives are trying to distract America from the TRUTH of what he is saying. Imagine that!

Bob Dole certainly didn't mince any words. I can understand his sentiment, however as the timing and methodology does seem a bit opportunistic. There really isn't anything new in McClellan's revelations. I think most Republians would tell him, "I don't mind what you did. I mind the way you did it."

Dole...use your walking stick to hit your brain to get back in shape. If this fellow is speaking the truth ..why not? If his not..why not sue him..what is it with you coming up with this style of speaking about someone. You lost an election ..do you know why? Read what you have said and you will get the answer. You are a real walking stick!!

I'm sorry to hear that Bob Dole would prefer that the blinders be kept on the American public.

We've been deceived. We all knew it, but not we have further confirmation.

No one should be in favor of keeping such important information from the public when there are the lives of our military on the line.

IT LOOKS LIKE SCOTT McCLELLAN HAS CAPTURED THE ATTENTION OF THE REPUBLICANS. THE WHITE HOUSE SAYS HE SHOULD HAVE WAITED UNTIL THE NOVEMBER ELECTION TO SELL HIS BOOK. I THINK THE TIMEING IS PERFECT. A RECENT POLL ASKED-WHO DO YOU BELIEVE, THE WHITE HOUSE OR McCLELLAN. I LOVE THE RESULTS-89% BELIEVE McCLELLAN, ONLY 11% BELIEVE THE WHITE HOUSE.
IN THE NOVEMBER ELECTION, OBAMA WILL WIN BY A LANDSLIDE.

Who is spurred on by greed ? You (or) McClellan ?
Are you suggesting that Americans dont need to know the truth?
McClellan had the real guts to come out like that and disclose all your political scandals. It is not Bush to blame, it is people like you that are ruining the system
Go away and I hope to see you and all the miserable creatures like you behind bars soon

  24. where's logic

The Democratic party rules are as of now outdated. A presedent has been set by the 48 states primary, a first. Rules are not carved in stone. Dems, over-rule your rules and get on with (plenty of time left do do the right thing) the REVOTES in Michigan and Florida.
The supreme rules are with the voters, the right to vote in a democracy.

Voters of Michigan and Florida if the Dems make an undemocratic move on May 31..then go NOvember and vote McCain at least you know the man
