Bill Clinton lashes out at Vanity Fair reporter

Bill Clinton is not happy with the way a new magazine article portrays him.

Bill Clinton is not happy with the way a new magazine article portrays him.

(CNN) - Hillary Clinton's campaign Monday apologized for "inappropriate" language used by her husband in response to a Vanity Fair article that quoted anonymous sources questioning the former president's behavior since leaving the White House. (Listen to Clinton's comments Monday.)

The article, by the magazine's national editor Todd Purdum, suggested that Bill Clinton's personality had changed since his 2004 heart bypass surgery and said that there were reports of Clinton "seeing a lot of women on the road."

Purdum quoted four former Clinton aides saying that another of his former assistants had conducted "what one of these aides called an intervention" about the reports of philandering.

A writer for the Huffington Post, Mayhill Fowler, asked Clinton on Monday what he thought "about that hatchet job somebody did on you in Vanity Fair," according to a recording of the exchange posted on the Huffington Post's Web site.

"(He's) sleazy," Clinton responded. "He's a really dishonest reporter." (Earlier: Journalist defends article slamming Bill Clinton)

That reporter is a scum bag for righting that article. We are trying to come together as a democratic party and that dumb reporter rights an article like this. That reporter is actually trying his hardest to push the Clinton supporters away from the Obama supporters. That reporter is a snake and a scum bag.

If it looks like a duck, walks like a duck, and quacks like a duck, it's a duck. This kind of information should not come as "new" news about the former Prez......it's just more of the same. Personally, nothing that either Bill or Hilary do at this point should come as any big surprise to anyone... Sc*&mbag, indeed.......

I think Pudrum is just trying to smear former President Clinton.

Having an article and not naming your sources and only vaguely referring to them strongly suggests that those points were made up and have no factual basis.

Try submitting such an article to any college or proper journal and it would never be published, but it seems that Vanity Fair has either endorsed Obama secretly or has no standards of reporting.

    Shameful really.

Well, here we go again with the negativity and lies being spread about former President Bill Clinton. This is another last-ditch attempt for the Obama camp and supporters to dish out garbage that is not true. I believe that this is happening because Obama's camp wants the heat off of him. Remember, Bill Clinton is not running for President. Hillary Clinton is and she so deserves the nomination for President. The people have spoken and we believe her to STILL be the stronger candidate to run against John McCain. I will not listen to the lies, deceptiveness, and definite negativity and divisiveness coming from the Obama camp and its supporters. You should be ashamed of yourselves. HILLARY CLINTON WILL NOT LET THIS INTERFERE WITH HER CANDIDACY FOR PRESIDENT. SHE HAS EVERY RIGHT TO KEEP FIGHTING ALL THE WAY TO THE CONVENTION. PLEASE KEEP FIGHTING SENATOR CLINTON SO WE CAN SEE YOU IN THE WHITE HOUSE AS OUR NEXT PRESIDENT OF THE UNITED STATES. GO HILLARY 08!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

It has always been 'someone elses' fault with Bill. He blames the media, the Republican Party and if necessary his own Party when his scandals are revealed. The Clinton's have got down and dirty during this campaign but continue feel that their background is not an issue and should not be reported or revealed.

This is exactly why women like myself, who are staunch Hillary supporters will NEVER vote for the Democratic candidate-Barack Obama. The media has been evil when it comes to the Clintons. And, the population of folks in our society who are all too willing to violate one of the cardinal rules of Christianity "let those who have not sinned cast the first stone". The plain and simple truth is, the DNC has corrupted our party to get a candidate into the general election who will not win, Hillary would have won. And, because of the misogyny that is encouraged by the media and the DNC, I, and I hope most of the other Hillary supporters, will vote for the Republican candidate. We will show the world that we are principled, moral, ethical folks, who will not covertly support corruption. I know the Republicans will beat the Democrats in November if all the Hillary supporters, most of whom are women, will "slap the DNC in the face" with our scorn. Go John McCain!!!

Ever notice how often Whitewater, Ken Starr, bias or "conspiracy" are part of any Clinton response to criticism? One that is usually successful with the already-converted core of Bill & Hill believers. Clinton's response is more about the press and their perceived cabal of Obama supporters, than about his ongoing, live-on-national-television transformation from "Bubba" to "Cheney-lite." Bill needs to accept that he was part of the problem in the collapse of Hillary's annointment march back to the Oval Office.

Since when did Bill Clinton, of all the people in the world, get the right to call a reporter dishonest or sleazy?

I mean, this is a guy who was disbarred for perjury, has had at least two consensual affairs while in office, attempted a third but was refused and raped a woman.

If this reporter has not concrete evidence, then I think nothing should be said about 'He said, She said'.

I think alot still can't get over 'NOONE cares about what is happening in private.'. I had money in my pocket, food in my fridge and took vacations when President Clinton resided at 1600 Pennsylvania Avenue.

I also don't recall in my lifetime seeing eggs being thrown at a presidential motorcade during an inaugarational ceremony.

It is sad that they are apologizing for him defending himself against a cheap shot.

It is so sad what has become of President Clinton. He went from one of the most loved, to one of the most embarrasing ex-presidents.

Perhaps what that author wrote has some merits, in that it does appear President Clinton is not the same man he was. But I blame it more on being married to Hillary, than the surgery. How could anyone withstand that horror.

I hope all works out well for President Clinton, but I do think he should stay out of the public view for a while. I fear his legacy is lost.

I hope Hillary concedes this week, and they can retreat to their ill-gotten gains and relax and leave us alone for a while. Please!

The only "scumbag" in this story is William Jefferson Clinton and his disgraceful propensity toward adultery. While Hillary Clinton is concerned about sexism, Billy Boy is still concerned about getting sex. A polygraph test would bear [bare] this all out, once and for all.

The last sentence in this piece:

"Purdum last year wrote an article about the work of Sen. John McCain, now the presumptive Republican nominee for president, to draw in the party's more conservative voters."

Excuse me? Are you saying he was commissioned to write an article in order to achieve a particular political end?

If so, as much as I may want to hear what he's relating, that's not reportage or commentary, it's propaganda.

I don't know how dishonest the reporter may be, but it was a hatchet job. It is speculative information; because that is the way it was presented. It maybe true, but it was present in a dirty fashion. It has nothing to do with our economy, war in Iraq, or gas prices.

I'm not a fan of Bills wife nor the way he choose to behave during the campaign, but this is a questionable attack. One thing it does confirm is Bill can not be anywhere near the upcoming Democratic Administration. He is uncontrollable. That means Hillary would not be a smart choice for VP. The distraction she and bill would create would take away from the issues at hand.
