Carter to officially endorse Obama

(CNN) -
Former President Jimmy Carter, in a widely expected move, will endorse Barack Obama's presidential bid later Tuesday or early Wednesday.

Carter, a superdelegate who has frequently spoken favorably about Obama, told Britain’s Sky News last month that while he had not yet announced his decision publicly, after the last Democratic primary June 3, it would be time for Hillary Clinton to “give it up.”

He also said that Clinton “had a perfect right” to keep running – but that “a lot of the superdelegates will make a decision quite, announced quite rapidly, after the final primary on June 3."

The former president also told an interviewer last month that he believes Hillary Clinton would accept the vice presidential spot on the ticket, but that he did not believe such an offer would be made by Obama "because I don't see how it would help his ticket. I think he needs somebody like a [former Georgia Sen.] Sam Nunn, but I won't name others.”

Nunn, the former Georgia senator, is known for his foreign policy and national security expertise.

What a wuss! Why did it take so long? This super delegate concept only makes the DNC look like a bunch of nuts.

I am an O supporter as well.
I don't see Clinton will go away soon easily. If she can get her name on the ballot in all states, she will run as an independent. I am not sure she will win many states that way, but she will try to prove her point. She may definitely damage obama's chances (may carry New York, and some other key states). Obama will have a very tough choice to select a solid running mate for VP to overcome such a challenge. Obviously, it may have to be a woman with integrity to attract women voters. Kathleen Sebelius is good but may not have national appeal. Julie Eisenhower has no direct experience, but has been at the side of her father when he was P & VP, and has national name recognition. She is exposed to many foreign policy issues with him including China, it would be important to know what Henry Kissinger thinks of her....habib@itinst.org

Unfortunately, although Carter did a lot for human rights after his presidency, as a lifelong Democrat I have to say that his presidency wasn't too beneficial to America (certainly better than the current one though...) and this endorsement might not pull many over to Obama's side.

While Bush supporters are incapable of recognizing truly incompetent presidents, scholarly polls rank Carter almost identical to Republican presidents Gerald Ford and G. H. W. Bush. In spite of the uninformed screams from the 28%ers, research shows that presidential scholars do not rate Carter close to the bottom. They haven't yet included the present clown with the highest disapproval rating ever. Do some research.

Carter was the most peace-loving president the US had after WWII. The worst president you folks down South ever had is (unfortunately) still in office. Look at the mess you guys are in, economically and in regard to safety and security.
    Thanks, Jim Carter!

  15. yes she will

    35 years with this party.

    Gottal love the democrats.

    No wonder we always lose.

I got 2 presidents in- One was Carter (I actually like him) and one was Clinton (can't get better than that). Well we could have gotten better than that by having Hillary as our nominee.

The bummer Obama lost me long ago- too much race-card, too much cocky, too much mocking and jeering, too much pandering. Not enough substance. Not enough taking a firm stand on his own policies. Not enough truth.
