Clinton says she's open to being VP

Clinton told New York lawmakers Tuesday she's open to serving as VP.

Clinton told New York lawmakers Tuesday she's open to serving as VP.

(CNN) - Sen. Hillary Clinton is willing to take the vice presidential slot on a Barack Obama presidential ticket, New York lawmakers told CNN.

CNN first reported Monday that Clinton was signaling the Obama campaign of her interest.

Two New York lawmakers told CNN's Candy Crowley that Clinton told them she was open to being Obama's running mate during a conference call.

One of the lawmakers said that former President Bill Clinton has been pushing the idea privately for several weeks.

Earlier, Rep. Charles Rangel, D-New York, told CNN that "I have reason to believe she is open to the V.P. slot."

On Monday, Obama insiders told CNN's Suzanne Malveaux that the campaign had received signals via informal channels that Clinton would be willing to serve as Obama's running mate. Clinton and Obama go into the final two primaries of the Democratic nomination fight Tuesday with Obama leading in delegate totals, although the results in South Dakota and Montana won't give him the 2,118 delegates he needs to secure the nomination.

Instead, the Illinois senator must depend on superdelegates - party insiders and elected officials - to put him over the top. Obama picked up 12 superdelegates on Tuesday, including former President Jimmy Carter, leaving him just 30 delegates short of securing the nomination. Thirty-one delegates are at stake in Tuesday's primaries.

I can see why on paper this might sound like the best idea for the VP spot – however Obama needs to get Hillary out of the press quickly and have people talk about him as the President – not Hillary helping him get their – We'll see – i'd be open to anything as long as we have a Democratic VP

You're right Big 'O', but you've got the wrong man. The spot's been taken by Johnny McC. She's BO's only hope, he's got no choice.

Hillary Clinton has made the AP have no credibility because they (AP) reported one thing and Hillary stated that was incorrect. Hillary has too much drama to be on the ticket with Obama not to mention all the drama Bill will bring. I beg Obama not to put her on the ticket. Hillary has forced the DNC to count FL and MI and now her supporters are forcing her to be on the ticket as VP. This is not democracy and if people won't vote for Obama if Hillary's not on the ticket then so be it; don't vote. I tired of this political game playing. Please Sen. Obama don't put Hillary on the ticket because it's not in your best interest or the country's best interest.

SHOCKING....You would have to an dump idiot not to see this one coming from the left field. Her only mission is to make life miserable for Obama since she lost to the better candidate, and with Bill in the White House beside her it will be hell for Obama and the nation. But at least Obama can use her to do all the lying since she's a master at it..

i for one am shocked she would resign to the VP position considering the fight and effort she already exhibited. at this point, she should just ride out her nomination to the final hours !!!!

I am glad to see that this puts Obama in a hot spot:

He can not pick Hillary as VP because it is against the wills of the party elites such as Pelosi, Dean and Carter. He gets the nomination with the help of those elites. So he has to reject her, which will further enrage the Hillary supporters and cost him any remaining chance of being the next president.

Of course she is...but I know we are NOT open to her. Obama's supporters have had all the Clintons they want for a very long time. If he takes her as a VP I'm thinking Ron Paul would be a good second choice.

Can we still write Hillary in and have her win the presidency if she has the VP slot?

I would rather her win in NOV as president- them have her help the limping Obama steal the presidency from herself

Hell NO... After what she has done, dragging Obama's name through mud, lying, faking... This lady will do anything to have some part of presidential status to her name. Sorry, your best shot was when Bill was president, that's gone and deal with it. Now she wants any shot to be allowed access to the White house... NO WAY
