Clinton says she's open to being VP

Clinton told New York lawmakers Tuesday she's open to serving as VP.

Clinton told New York lawmakers Tuesday she's open to serving as VP.

(CNN) - Sen. Hillary Clinton is willing to take the vice presidential slot on a Barack Obama presidential ticket, New York lawmakers told CNN.

CNN first reported Monday that Clinton was signaling the Obama campaign of her interest.

Two New York lawmakers told CNN's Candy Crowley that Clinton told them she was open to being Obama's running mate during a conference call.

One of the lawmakers said that former President Bill Clinton has been pushing the idea privately for several weeks.

Earlier, Rep. Charles Rangel, D-New York, told CNN that "I have reason to believe she is open to the V.P. slot."

On Monday, Obama insiders told CNN's Suzanne Malveaux that the campaign had received signals via informal channels that Clinton would be willing to serve as Obama's running mate. Clinton and Obama go into the final two primaries of the Democratic nomination fight Tuesday with Obama leading in delegate totals, although the results in South Dakota and Montana won't give him the 2,118 delegates he needs to secure the nomination.

Instead, the Illinois senator must depend on superdelegates - party insiders and elected officials - to put him over the top. Obama picked up 12 superdelegates on Tuesday, including former President Jimmy Carter, leaving him just 30 delegates short of securing the nomination. Thirty-one delegates are at stake in Tuesday's primaries.

She has done nothing to deserve this veep nod. If she had run a smart and honorable campaign, it would be different. She chose to lie, cheat and spin. Keep her off of the ticket but offer her a spot in the administration.

Secretary of Health, I think would be more beneficial to her. She could REALLY make a difference. She does not have a "second banana" type of personality. That being said...

    OBAMA 08, YEAH!!!!!!

If Obama has any smarts at all, would be in his best interest,to offer Hillary the VP spot. That is the only shot he has at winning in November,as well as having any shot to even come close to getting my Vote.

THANK GOODNESS!!! It's the only way to unify things, and it's an unbeatable ticket. If they seperately can bring in record amounts of voters, together, they are unbeatable.

I don't have a problem with it being an Obama supporter as long as she not planning to hurt him in the end.....you never know with Hillary whats' she is planning

    Don't do it Barack.
Having Hillary as your VP would undercut your message of change.

Common now Sen. Clinton, I thought you were the one offering Sen. Obama the VP spot one time, why do you want the spot now. Sometimes, some defeat is better than victory you know.

I wonder if Independents will swing toward the DNC with Clinton on the ticket, or will they swing back to the GOP. Independents will make the difference in the election once again this year.

I will only vote for Obama if he has a different running mate than Clinton. I will definitely not vot Democrat if Clinton is on the ticket. I do not respect her after the race she has run.

oh no . . . are you guys sure this time?? If so she has some chutzpah to make it public like that and force Obama to offer her the nod. If he doesnt it would appear as disrespect to her women suppporters. His hand is forced and that is not good for anybody.

  14. ah screw it...

I hate her campaign and supporters but screw it, ANYTHING to keep Mcsame out of office, I don't think the U.S can take another 4 years of the same policies that got us into this mess, this is beyond pride, if it brings the party togather and we win in november it's worth it!

Let go of your pride's, I have come to hate Hillary's campaign and the way she did things, and aspecially her supporters but this is beyond that...if Mcsame wins and you see your health care rate's going up, gas going up, economy in the slums, and you loosing your job, it will be because you couldn't let go of your pride! So I say screw it, lets bring this party togather, w/e it take's! Anything but a 4th Bush term, we can't afford it, too much is at stake!
