Lieberman attacks Obama over foreign policy

[cnn-photo-caption image= http://i.cdn.turner.com/cnn/2008/images/06/04/art.lieb.gi.jpg caption="Lieberman had sharp words for Obama."](CNN) - On the first day of the general election campaign, the very first Republican conference call attacking presumptive Democratic nominee Barack Obama featured his party's 2000 vice presidential nominee, Sen. Joe Lieberman.

"Senator Obama argued today that American foreign policy in recent years has essentially sort of strengthened Iran," said Lieberman on a conference call for reporters hosted by John McCain's campaign Wednesday. "..If Israel is in danger today, it's not because of American foreign policy, which has been strongly supportive of Israel in every way. It's not because of what we’ve done in Iraq, it’s because Iran is a fanatical terrorist expansionist state."

On the same call, Republican Rep. Eric Cantor of Ohio said Obama's speech did nothing to dispel doubts about his commitment to Israel.

Both men spoke shortly after Obama addressed the American Israel Public Affairs Committee in Washington. The GOP has been hoping that concerns by some in the Jewish community about the Illinois senator's willingness to diplomatically engage Iranian leaders will allow them to make inroads with that crucial Democratic voting bloc.

Lieberman, who endorsed John McCain earlier this year, has been increasingly critical of Obama - particularly his goal to end the war in Iraq. The Democrat-turned-independent has been a strong supporter of President Bush's Middle East and Iraq policies.

Obama endorsed Lieberman in his 2006 Democratic primary battle against challenger Ned Lamont. But after the Connecticut senator lost and decided to run as an independent, Obama switched his support to Lamont, who shared his opposition to the Iraq war.

Joe should run for the Knesset because he is more concerned with Israel than he is about America.

Not surprising to see two Republican attack dogs smearing Obama. And yes Leaverman, you are a Republican. This irrelevant joke of a man shouldn't even be allowed to caucus with the Democrats.

Hey Carville! Here's the real Judas!

You Obamabots are laughable. Who was that that called Lieberman a joke? Was he a joke when he was your Dem's vice presidential candidate for 2004? The word Dem stands for demagogues which you guys are. Before you go on a celebragory binge on Obama's nomination, let's think for a minute what kind of support Obama is going to have come November: not Jewish votes, not hispanic votes, not blue collar white Reagon Democrats. And you think he can beat John McCain?

Ew!! Just when I thought dinosaurs were extinct, here comes this crustation (Lieberman) yammering about another crustation (John McCain). Looking at these two...the cataracs, silver hairs, and bad teeth...turn my stomach. Again, I say ew!!

On the subject of foreign policy, sitting around Washington for 20 years and making an occasional trip to another country to keep your arteries from hardening is hardly foreign policy experience in my opinion. So Lieberman and McCain, find a legitimate topic to discuss. Perhaps you may actually win an argument if you could do that.

Lieberman gets the table scraps from the Bush Administration that McCain can't bring himself to eat. Get lost, traitor. The Democratic Party tried to put this man in the White House, and this is how he repays them. What a creep.

Like right. This just shows that Senator Lieberman doesn't realize that the world has changed. The foreign policy that we've been following sure hasn't been working.

Senator Lieberman was the 2000 Vice Presidential Candidate for the Democratic Party, not 2004 (that was Senator Edwards). Nonetheless, Lieberman's gradual drift toward the Republican Party has been quite dramatic to watch...

Grown-ups? Hardly. Obama gives great speeches lacking substance. Lieberman, McCain and Clinton have proven that that they can "reach across the aisle" and regardless of what the outcome is in the general election they will continue to be effective politicians.

    Hey, Leiberman...

Shouldn't you be somewhere next McCain whispering him corrections on statements he makes about foreign policy?

Look up The Real McCain on Youtube and get the video

Isn't it the truth Paul Jones...thanks for at least one intelligent person telling it like it is out there in blog land!!

Sometimes I wonder about the IQ of the average voter out there...they come up with some of what would be the most laughable stuff I ever read if it weren't for being downright scary. They fall lock stock and barrel for shallow glitz , glamour, youth and good looks and for the media's slant on things like candy...sad when the public is so easily led. Would be so nice if people would use their own brains for once.

Lieberman – I have one word for you.....Idiot!!!

Why is it that all of the idiots in government wont just go away?

What the hell has this joke of a senator done while in office?

What is his foreign policy experience? Trips to foreign countries?

What has he done lately except be the parrot on McCain's shoulder, filling in the answers when McCain can't remember?

That is the problem Obama is only about rhetoric and has noting to backup his claims.
He is a great public speaker but that is all.
I sure don’t want to live in a socialist country that Obama has dreamed up for us.

Lets stop the rhetoric and the CNN show for Obama and get down to business. Lets talk numbers and find out how Obama is going to do what he says he will.
He is all about TAX, TAX and TAX. Oh and one more, Government controlling our lives.
