Lieberman attacks Obama over foreign policy

[cnn-photo-caption image= http://i.cdn.turner.com/cnn/2008/images/06/04/art.lieb.gi.jpg caption="Lieberman had sharp words for Obama."](CNN) - On the first day of the general election campaign, the very first Republican conference call attacking presumptive Democratic nominee Barack Obama featured his party's 2000 vice presidential nominee, Sen. Joe Lieberman.

"Senator Obama argued today that American foreign policy in recent years has essentially sort of strengthened Iran," said Lieberman on a conference call for reporters hosted by John McCain's campaign Wednesday. "..If Israel is in danger today, it's not because of American foreign policy, which has been strongly supportive of Israel in every way. It's not because of what we’ve done in Iraq, it’s because Iran is a fanatical terrorist expansionist state."

On the same call, Republican Rep. Eric Cantor of Ohio said Obama's speech did nothing to dispel doubts about his commitment to Israel.

Both men spoke shortly after Obama addressed the American Israel Public Affairs Committee in Washington. The GOP has been hoping that concerns by some in the Jewish community about the Illinois senator's willingness to diplomatically engage Iranian leaders will allow them to make inroads with that crucial Democratic voting bloc.

Lieberman, who endorsed John McCain earlier this year, has been increasingly critical of Obama - particularly his goal to end the war in Iraq. The Democrat-turned-independent has been a strong supporter of President Bush's Middle East and Iraq policies.

Obama endorsed Lieberman in his 2006 Democratic primary battle against challenger Ned Lamont. But after the Connecticut senator lost and decided to run as an independent, Obama switched his support to Lamont, who shared his opposition to the Iraq war.

Mr. Lieberman should go home and stay their. If he "thinks" he knows so much, then he should have run for Pres. and would lose.

McCain wants "town hall meetings"! No Gimmicks from Mr. McGimmick himself.

Obama all the way to the White House. Protect Him!

Liebermann is a disgrace to all that is right and true in American politics. I cannot believe he has the audacity to open his mouth and talk.

Hey CNN. The obvious bias on this venue is disgusting. You have allowed only one pro-Lieberman comment to be posted. This is not a free forum, but more of an Obummer shill media.

    Dave, Dave, Dave:
Nobody thinks Lieberman is "still in the Democratic party," except you. He's an Independent. Fortunately, the voters in Connecticut know that, and they voted him in as an Independent when he lost the Dem nod. If you're going to carp, Dave, you really need to do your homework. He owes nothing to Dems; they bounced him, but Connecticut voters elected him anyway.

Lieberman and John McCain know more about the world than most of us. What happened to listening to people who have been around a bit longer than our nose? Maybe we could learn something if we weren't so quick to judge the older generation. John McCain is still a far better choice in a world that hates us than our naive democratic candidate. And....I AM a Democrat!
Tthis time, I am voting Republican. Barack can't handle our enemies, which are legion!

Joel Liberman's grasp of foreign policy doesn't reach from Connecticut to Rhode Island. He would be doing himself a huge favor if he would fade into obscurity.

Obama has done nothing for 20 years but sit up in a black church and dap with the brothers while a bunch of blow hard '60s era racist badmouth "whitey" from the pulpit. When he gets into office you should hold on to your wallet because whatever you have left after paying for food and gas, he will be taking to give free health care, free housing, and free food to those who don't work, won't work, and would not work if you made them president of General Motors. On top of that every radical muslim in the world will be trying him on for size since they know he will never commit troops against them. Remember the Jimmy Carter inflation years because you will be seeing them again soon. Oh, I forgot. Most of Obama's backers are too young to remember what happens when a flaming liberal with no experience gets in office.

Hey, a Democrat with a brain. Too much for you smarmy, cornball, cry baby, bed wetting Obamanites to understand. You really think he cares? If he wins enjoy the give aways and the deterioration of the American infrastructure. Don't believe it? Redistribution of the wealth. Look up the definition of Socialist. Obama's picture is right there.

Where would McCain be without Lieberman whispering in McCain's ear – telling him, at least twice, who was fighting who in Iraq!

McCain may have made many trips to Iraq, on the taxpayer's dime and a waste of huge amounts of jet fuel, but he didn't seem to learn much – or is he just another old man, forgetful and full of crochets: remembering how it used to be ... when he was a maverick, before Bush stole the election of 2000 ...

Plain and simple – this country needs more patriots and fewer partisan lapdogs.

I, like many Americans, am still on the fence about November. As it is right now, I am likely to lean toward whomever slings the LEAST mud about their opponent.

Why do my comments always sit in “awaiting moderation” for so long while all the positive Obama comments and negative Hillary comments seem to get pushed right through? Bias coverage – even on the CNN blogs? It’s just like watching Anderson Cooper 360…

Why doesn't Lieberman just come out and admit he's a Republican? Maybe he'll be McCain's running mate.
