Lieberman attacks Obama over foreign policy

[cnn-photo-caption image= http://i.cdn.turner.com/cnn/2008/images/06/04/art.lieb.gi.jpg caption="Lieberman had sharp words for Obama."](CNN) - On the first day of the general election campaign, the very first Republican conference call attacking presumptive Democratic nominee Barack Obama featured his party's 2000 vice presidential nominee, Sen. Joe Lieberman.

"Senator Obama argued today that American foreign policy in recent years has essentially sort of strengthened Iran," said Lieberman on a conference call for reporters hosted by John McCain's campaign Wednesday. "..If Israel is in danger today, it's not because of American foreign policy, which has been strongly supportive of Israel in every way. It's not because of what we’ve done in Iraq, it’s because Iran is a fanatical terrorist expansionist state."

On the same call, Republican Rep. Eric Cantor of Ohio said Obama's speech did nothing to dispel doubts about his commitment to Israel.

Both men spoke shortly after Obama addressed the American Israel Public Affairs Committee in Washington. The GOP has been hoping that concerns by some in the Jewish community about the Illinois senator's willingness to diplomatically engage Iranian leaders will allow them to make inroads with that crucial Democratic voting bloc.

Lieberman, who endorsed John McCain earlier this year, has been increasingly critical of Obama - particularly his goal to end the war in Iraq. The Democrat-turned-independent has been a strong supporter of President Bush's Middle East and Iraq policies.

Obama endorsed Lieberman in his 2006 Democratic primary battle against challenger Ned Lamont. But after the Connecticut senator lost and decided to run as an independent, Obama switched his support to Lamont, who shared his opposition to the Iraq war.

Lieberman who???? what a has been. Who in their right mind would even entertain anything this angry person has to say. He's a Bush/Mccain follower so why is anything he said even printed. Liberman and Mccain both need to go home and sit on the front porch in their rocker, old geesers

America is hated more than ever because of the broken foreign policy of the Bush administration. Americans aren't going to buy into this anymore. Your time is up. Joe, go get your brother McBush and go back to the home.

Eric Cantor is an idiot from Va, not Ohio. I am sad to say he reps my district and is an absolute moron.

It might be helpful for Obama if McCain picks Lieberman as a running mate.

Then, instead of having to choose between a black guy and a white guy, the bigots out there would have to choose between a black guy and a Jewish guy.

That would hoist them on their own petard, I think.

He's attacking Obama on foreign policy?

Way over 4,000 people have lost their lives because of the way they have handled their foreign policy. Another ignorant republican who fails to see the facts on what the meaning of War is really about. In this case, it has been all about GREED and stupidity.

Just an FYI: Lieberman was the VP nominee in 2000, not 2004.

See you dems, what'd I tell you? Obama will blame the US for the world situation rather than blame those actually responsible for undermining peace and security in the world. He will talk to Iran but not to the US government officials or our generals. This man is looney and so are those of you who voted for him.

They are out of touch and have lost their senses. Did they even listen to the speech? I believe no. Because Obama made it clear what he was going to do. They should realise that there is no hiding place for their old war candidate.

Lieberman is such a joke. The only reason anyone even knows his name is because of Al Gore's ill-founded belief that Joe could deliver the Jewish vote in Florida in 2000. Lieberman and the Jewish voters in Florida were unequal to the task, being thoroughly befuddled by the butterfly ballot. His own party has evicted him, he backs Bush when 70% of Americans don't. He isn't a Democrat or even an American. He's an Israeli that lives in America and put Israel's interests above those of his constituents and his country.

Ah Judas is coming out of the woodwork again. He should concentrate on McCain and reminding him of the difference between Sunnis and Shiites.

You know Joe Liberman needs to grow up. He's still sore because he felt the Connecticut Democratic Party abandoned him during his last Senatorial race. He lost that States Democratic nomination and successfully won as an independent, so let by gones be by gones and come back into the fold. Your revenge mongering is so juvenille.

Could not win as a Dem, so switched to independent. Sounds like another sore loser to me trying to jump on a winning platform. Looks likes he missed again.
