Presidential hopefuls eye the economy

[cnn-photo-caption image= http://i.cdn.turner.com/cnn/2008/images/06/10/art.mccainobama.ap.jpg caption="Obama and McCain are battling over the economy. "](CNN) - The economy is the No. 1 issue on the minds of American voters, and Sens. John McCain and Barack Obama offer vastly different plans to improve it.

Watch: Pros/cons of Obama's new plan

McCain on Tuesday told a group of small business owners that his goal as president will be "to get our economy running at full strength again."

The senator from Arizona is attempting to paint Obama as a typical Democrat who wants to raise taxes and regulate government, charging that Obama would institute the largest tax increase in more than 60 years.

    Andy J, NY,
You must be living in dreamland dude. How many people do you know who have a good education and have a job are successful? Or maybe to better make understand, what is success to you? I hope you're not in the top 2% wealthy americans otherwise you will just be wasting our time on this blog to comment on something you have no real experience in.

  4. Defect from all that is corrupt

I'd give Obama a chance to fix this mess… but so MUCH rancor and vitriol from his camp. And so much arrogance and boastfulness from the great Obama himself.

    MY moment of defection:
Early On the polls showed that the majority of supporters for HRC would gladly vote for Obama.

Then Obama used that as a weapon to divide the party. We went National and very arrogantly and presumptuously declared that HE could WIN back the HRC supporters… but not the other way around.

SEE? words DO matter. And How was that so? After all don't the issues and the values and ideals of the party matter to the Obama supporters? Besides, as I then blogged- Obama supporters have MORE to lose with a McCain win, then us older, more conservative HRC demographic. I was seldom posted and abusively attacked if I managed to sneak in a comment.

Millions of other Democrats have THEIR moment.

Why is McCain using that same ole Bush BS stratgey that says that a democrats ideas on taxes and the economy 'would hurt small businesses'. Bush used that crap in 2000 and 2004 and look where it has gotten small businesses. All small businesses are hurt and shut down due to the Repulicans' tax and economy 'ideas'. I wish they would stop the madness and be real for once. But then again we are talking about Republicans. When is the last time they did something that was for real and about the people of this country. And I aint talking about getting our people unemployed or killed!!.. All you ex Clinton backers, please stop the fuming and lets come together for the sake of the ordinary people of this country and not one one person.

Obama's early sprint in the DEM primary was due to HIS (not Rush or Anne) telling republicans to vote against HRC....'be a democrat for a day' campaign.

Maybe all those crossovers will drag him over the finish line in the GE.

So Obama can fail to know what town he's in in S Dak. last week and say a medical patient was put on a breathalyzer instead of a respirator and that's just really cute and besides, poor baby, he's tired from campaigning in 57 states. McCain misspeaks and it's a federal case. No double standard here folks.

    An old saying..

"Beer is proof that God loves us and wants us to be happy."

Vote McCain and support his veto for every beer and you vote against God.

Vote for Obama in November and you will surely keep your beer. Beer is wheat. Wheat is life, therefore beer is life. Don't allow anyone to take life out of you. Think twice before voting for same old, same old.

Take your cool beer and watch Obama sworn in as President in January of 2009.

Yep.....I love and need my beer.

Ever heard of the "X Prize", $10 million for building a spaceship? It took 30 years to for someone to win it.

I propose the "G Prize", for a "green" automobile. Let tax dollars pay for it. Give out 3 Prizes. 1st, 2nd, and 3rd. Attract the major auto manufacturers with $500 million in total prizes.

Build an electric that can go 200 miles before re-fueling. The winners are the parties that can build one million of them in one year.

  19. Mike - Ventura, CA

The attempt by the (not so) Grand OLD Party to paint the Democratic Nominee as a tax and spend crazy man will not work this time. McBush knows little on Economic policies and his holiday gas tax gimick is just one example. He's in bed with the oil companies- When bush was elected gas was $1.40/gallon. This morning in Ventura it's $4.69/gallon. His jibberish is of NO VALUE!

Why doesn't anyone explain to the Republicans that letting the deficit explode is exactly the same thing as raising taxes. There is just a delay in when we will have to pay for it, but, in the end, someone will have to pay the bill. And it will be taxpayers.

"The essence of Obama's campaign is simply, "Vote for me and I'll set you free.""

And McCain is "Eh, who cares? I got mine. You can just drop dead."

Sorry, I'm not a fan of Republican government, considering their "prescription drug plan" nearly put me in a plot.

Well Jan, here are a couple of other people you can check out. Rush Limbaugh and Sean Hannity.

Jan, you can sing along with McCain, bomb bomb bomb.

Jan, push McCain to place Karl Rove into the Supreme Court.

Jan, thank Bush and have pride in McCain that he too will continue an arrogant stance with the rest of the world. Remember theirs, and yours, when you fill you gas tank. Remember theirs and yours when you allow China to grip their fingers into the American economy further and further by a continued and prolonged war.

Jan, thank McCain as he continues the policy of outsourcing jobs to other countries. Thank McCain for his retraining policy and I hope you enjoy your new minimum wage job.

When I hear or read nonsense such as came from Jan, what we have is the same and ridged far right thinking but with blue cloths on.
