DNC moving operations to Chicago

WASHINGTON (CNN) – The Democratic National Committee announced Thursday that a significant part of their operations would be moving from Washington to Chicago, the home of the Obama campaign.

“We've begun a transition period here at the DNC that fully integrates our operations in DC with the Obama operation in Chicago and in the states,” DNC spokeswoman Karen Finney tells CNN. “Our goal is to quickly consolidate these efforts into one operation and effectively drive one national strategy.”

The political, field and constituency operations are being moved to Obama's Chicago headquarters, while the research and communications departments will remain in DC.

After winning the nomination, Obama decided to keep Howard Dean on as chairman of the DNC, and sent over senior aide Paul Tewes to oversee the collaboration.

“When the nominee comes in, we essentially merge the Democratic National Committee with the campaign of the presidential candidate,” Dean told reporters on Tuesday, “there’s not going to be a coordination problem.”

Finney emphasized that the goal is for Obama and DNC staffers to feel part of “one big team” and to eliminate any redundancies. She pointed to 2004 as an example of when the Kerry campaign and DNC resources wastefully overlapped.

DNC staffers in Washington will also have the opportunity to work in other states – both the Obama campaign and the DNC have staff in all 50 states and many will work under the same roof.

“The blending of the cultures is not hard at all, it’s pretty seamless,” said Finney.

Details are still being worked out, how many staffers and who will technically employ them is still unclear.

Well, we've heard from three Republicans; Roxy, L, and Vito. You folks obviously can't spell. Fox isn't spelled CNN. Go back to your McCain site where you belong.

    Vote for Obama in November!

Doesn't Chicago a have police chief and Mayor? And since when do Senators get involved with local crime?

    Nice try Vito.

Vito, maybe Chicago needs more strict gun laws. Or perhaps a ban on all handguns? Maybe you should look a little closer to home if you want someone to blame. Obama is a U.S. Senator for Illinois. You have a mayor, city council, governor, and Illinois Senate who can more easily be blamed than a busy U.S. Senator who is running for president.

I take it this isn't the first time you've tried to spread completely baseless and unfounded gossip about people you don't like or afraid of....

    Am I right?

And if this is your first time, I've got one suggestion:

    June 12, 2008 07:57 pm at 7:57 pm |

Howard Dean, Nancy Pelosi, Harry Reid, Donna Brazile, Tom Daschle, Bill Richardson, John Kerry, etc., etc., should all be run out of the country. The DNC is a joke and have split the party. DNC=
Divisive Negative Cohorts. You have totally disrespected our party, our values and our country. Losers!! Losers! Losers! Can you LEAD US BACK TO UNITY?? WILL YOU EVEN TRY???

  12. Go McCane

Talk about copy cat. My man McCane already did this with the RNC. Of course it was mainly so he could hide the amount of PAC and Lobbiest money he wants unlike Obama. Obama has already blocked that money from the DNC and his campaign. He actually wants the "people" to support him. This isn't how Washington works.
We need a man (and not a woman) that knows how Washington works and uses it to get elected. Go McSame

Obama is already making moves on DC...good for him. And to Vito,Chicago..what the hell do you expect Obama to do..dawn a cape with a S on his chest sweeping through the hoods of Chicago righting all the wrongs. The city's violence problem isn't his focal point its the police jobs to curb the violence thats what they get paid to do..Keep the peace...idiot..

If you voted for Gore and Kerry, why would you not vote for Obama? Platforms are very similar, in fact. Youre obviously not voting the issues, although you should, as that is what directly impacts your, and my, life.

Like Obama has anything to do with the murder rate in Chicago.

  16. Former Republican

Are you kidding me, now it is his fault that people are killing other people in Chicago? Ok then the reason crime is so high is due to the fact the economy is very bad and people are trying to get by any way they can. The job market is low in Chicago, Gas is to high and we are spending Trillions of dollars and killing you soldiers in a stupid war! So I guess ultimately it is McCain’s fault because he will keep all of Bush’s policy’s going and it will continue if McBush is elected.

  17. Eric

Roxy, you should be held accountable for the 4 trillion dollar war we are paying. Its people like you who should pay for the war since you seem to agree with it with switching affiliation. Hopefully when Obama is president he will make the GOP and its people pay for the bills they are ringing up.

OK, if you don't like the guy and you don't like the party, then why waste your energy even commenting? Just go vote for who you claim you want. I am also in Chicago, and aware of the violence. There is major violence in every urban city. I applaud the DNC attempt to link up and consolidate efforts with the Obama campaign. It makes sense. If you have nothing positive to say.......ZIP IT!
