Poll: Image of US will 'change for the better' with Obama

[cnn-photo-caption image= http://i.cdn.turner.com/cnn/2008/images/06/12/art.obama.5.19.jpg caption="Many countries thing U.S. foreign policy will improve with Obama as President."]
(CNN)—Despite increasing economic concerns and an on-going war in Iraq, a new international poll finds a widespread belief in many countries that United States foreign policy “will change for the better" once a new administration is sworn into office, particularly if Sen. Barack Obama is elected president.

The international poll conducted by Pew Research of more than 24,000 people in 24 countries found people who have been following the U.S. elections feel more confident Obama “will do the right thing,” with regards to foreign relations than John McCain.

McCain has lower ratings than Obama in every country surveyed except the U.S., where the two presumptive nominees run neck and neck.

Obama’s advantage over McCain is enormous particularly in France, Germany, and Australia, where the Illinois senator leads McCain by up to 51 percentage points.

Overall, there is little confidence in the United States in general among those surveyed in the Middle Eastern countries of Pakistan and Jordan. McCain has a confidence rating of 6 percent in Pakistan, while Obama garners 10 percent. “In Jordan and Egypt, more people who are following the election say they expect new leadership to change U.S. foreign policy for the worse than say they expect a change for the better,” according to the survey.

The vast majority of my international friends agree with these findings. The rest of the world can't wait for Obama to become President and stop alienating them.

It certainly can't change for the worse. How refreshing it will be to have and intelligent, well spoken, dignified President of the United States. Obama will be the best thing to happen to this country in many, many years.

Who cares what the rest of the world thinks? The only reason they like Obama because they know that he will not be tough on any country. So this November, you all have an important choice. You can either pick the smooth talker with no experience who will "hope" that the bad people of the world "change" their ways. Or you can pick a dependable veteran who do everything in his power to keep you and your family safe.

Since when does the USA elections reach out for public opinion of other nations? Or is this because the Supreme Court incorrectly ruled the US Constitution applies everywhere, we are now going to open up our elections to?

    Let's see here.....

McCain tells Bush the war in Iraq is not working...he pushed a surge policy that the White House did not endorse for 8 months.

Now a year later, the surge IS working. Iraq is beginning to take responsibility for fighting off insurgents...and now the American Death Toll is the lowest since the start. By November the US will continue to pull out troops from Iraq. McCain also believes that the Defense Contractors should be ACCOUNTABLE for the money they spend.

How is this war mongering? I am a Democrat that actually trusts McCain in Iraq.

However, that said...BOTH Obama and McCain will increase the national debt with their economic policies, and right now America has too much debt.

Clinton seems to have been the ONLY one that got it. You have to have a self-sufficient America to have a strong America. McCain and Obama will continue to sell out America to the lowest bidders.

WHY DID YOU GUYS SPEND ALL THAT MONEY.

WE COULD HAVE TOLD YOU THAT, FOR LESS. BETWEEN

ALL OF US WE HAVE RELATIVES IN MORE THANTWENTY

OR SO COUNTRYS, & ALL ARE SO EXCITED. AS A MATTER

A FACT, OUR IMAGE HAS IMPROVED ALREADY BY OBAMA'S

NOMINATION. MOST OTHER NATIONS, FRIEND OR FOE,

BECOME VERY INSECURE WHEN WE LOSE OUR GRIP

AS WE HAVE LATELY. THE ENTIRE WORLD DEPENDS ON

US TOO KEEP CHAOS & DISORDER AT BAY.LATELY, WE NOT

ONLY DIDN'T DO OUR USUAL JOB, BUT WE HAVE

CONTRIBUTED TO THAT FEAR IN A VERY SERIOUS &

FRIGHTENING MANNER, BY DECLARING A WAR WITHOUT

    ANY REASON.

Senator Obama will breathe fresh life into our foreign relations in a way that Senator McCain simply can't compete with. Why, just the MERE FACT of electing a black man U.S. President will shore up our image as a country that's moving boldly into the future. There's simply no calculating the amount of good it could do this country to elect Senator Obama.

So Americans are happy about the idea of the Obama campaign's jackals packaging and marketing a new image for the US the same way that they packaged and marketed Obama's image?

That sure will be an improvement over Bush.

We new competent leaders, not used car salesmen with lofty slogans.

Who produces these polls results, anyway? I don't mean which organization. I mean who, specifically, at Pew Research?

As a UK resident and someone who travels regularly around europe, I agree with the polls 100% percent. Obama is sending shock waves every where in Europe.

Europeans feel strongly that they can once again call americans close friends under an Obama administration.

We hope the americans do not blow this once in a lifetime opportunity !!!

It is so important that we restore our image around the world, take it from a person who has traveled all over the world, it feels really bad that we are considered the scums of the earth to many...

I agree. People in other countries already know the image America has generated as a result of the propaganda, corruption or poor decisions by some of our selected officials. (i.e., Bush). Not saying this doesn't occur in all countries. However, Obama would hopefully change the look of America (inside and out) Although younger and McCain, he is bright, intelligent and not stupid or naive as some are trying to picture him.
