Michelle Obama 'touched' by the First Lady's defense

(CNN)— Michelle Obama said Wednesday she was “touched” First Lady Laura Bush came to her defense when her patriotism was questioned.

“There’s a reason why people like [the first lady],” Obama said on ABC’s The View. “She doesn’t fuel the fire.”

Earlier this year at a campaign event Michelle Obama said, "For the first time in my adult life, I'm really proud of my country.”

Laura Bush told ABC last week the remarks must have been misinterpreted.

"I think she probably meant 'I'm more proud,'" said the first lady, adding that "you have to be very careful in what you say" when you’re campaigning.

"That's one of the things you learn and that's one of the really difficult parts both of running for president, and for being the spouse of the president, and that is everything you say is looked and in many cases misconstrued."

Obama said Wednesday she had sent The First Lady a note that took her “a while” to write, but wouldn’t divulge any details because she didn’t know whether it had been received yet.

Exactly, this is exactly how Hillary was treated for as a first lady as well.
Heaven forbid we have a strong-minded outspoken woman in this day and age. What has the world come to?

As for Michelle's – First time being proud comments. Everyone knows what she meant even Laura Bush defended her. I love how people can use fear and twist things and take them out of context to their liking. That's how we got Bush TWICE.

McCains votes aginst women's equal pay and supports overturning Roe vs. Wade

McCain votes against the hurricane Katrina probe twice to see how it was handled

McCain votes against the GI bill to help troops returning home from war

McCain supports tax cuts for the wealthiest Americans and more tax breaks for big oil companies.

How can we say this man fights for most Americans?

They will make a beautiful First Family, and make many people proud. I love that she came from humble roots.... I can relate to that!

    "The Difference"

John McCain, Hillary Clinton, and Barrack Obama were walking down a Washington DC street when they came upon a homeless man.

John McCain gave the man his business card and told him to come to his office for a job. He then took $20 out of his pocket and gave it to the man.

Hillary was very impressed, so when they came upon another homeless man, she decided to help. She walked over to him gave him directions to the welfare office, gave her business card, gave him $30, and told him to call for a job and how to ensure he could get medical benefits.

When they came upon yet another homeless man, Barak told him to "have hope....change is coming" and gave him nothing.

Both candidates wives should be left alone. It's the gentlemen thing to do.

Ironically, the only spouse I would give the green light to mess with would be Bill.

Michelle is smart, savvy, intelligent, witty, strong-willed, good-hearted and is blessed to be the wife of the man who could be President of the US. She also has two beautiful daughters and she no doubt loves this country. All women should aspire to be as strong and yet as graceful as she is and how many of us can say that we have the strength to be in the spotlight 24/7 and support a man who could be President? Not a lot of us, it gives us something to strive for. And if the worse they can say about this woman is that she is 'more proud' of her country than ever, then I'll take that any day compared to what can be said of some of the other candidates wives...

Oh boy, another fluff piece on Michelle Obama from CNN. No big surprise there.

There's currently 13 pro-Obama stories on CNN Political Ticker as opposed to the 2 positive McCain stories... Oh, and there are 2 stories that have neutral headings with a pro-Obama/anti-Republican twist in their main body of text.

Looks like CNN, just like MSNBC, is in the tank for Obama.

And, I'll bet dollars to donuts that the people monitoring these comments won't even post my comments. Because, in reality they never post my comments.

Hold nothing against Laura Bush ....If you stopped to visit them in Texas and he was not the President I would believe you would find him to be a nice , kind ,thoughtfull person ( it is just some people are unable to handle the job of running the country and he has did a lousy job.....)
My take on their daughter with new book was a delightfull young person came across kind, intelligent and just the person you would love to have as your childs teacher .I would believe Laura was a well known favorite teacher .
Michells statement was taken out of context and they ran with it /Isnt there someting better to spread with all the problems in this world. ?
How many times have we commented something was worst or best thing that has happened to us while we also know many worse and better things happend in our past .

As much as Barack Obama hammers her husband, Laura reached out to Michelle. And Michelle responded with a letter. A connection has been made across all lines. This is what America is about.

    Let's all move ahead.

Any species that has survived for a long time on this planet has given back more to the planet then it takes. From the ants to the bees to the trees which have all been on this planet longer then we have are still here because they give back to the planet. But here we are wanting to take more and more oil from the earth and give nothing back to her. All we're doing is polluting the planet. And now mother earth is letting us know about it. Hurrican Katrina. Wild fires of California. Flooding of the midwest. Homes destroyed. Economy destroyed. If we don't start giving back to mother earth we're in a lot of trouble. The Mayans predicted the end of earth for 2012. They predicted rivers would change course (midwest). Its only getting worse folks. We need to end our love affair with oil. We are currently running at a 1000 TIMES the natural rate of extinction and we're not slowing down any. This isn't just an earth's cycle we're dealing with.

McCain wants to drill for more oil. Bush wants to drill for more oil. Obama wants to find ways to use our natural resources. Who do you want to vote for?

The #1 issue this election should be how WE TREAT MOTHER EARTH.

Thanks Shell for saying this on the View!

This is a very nice way for you to thank Mrs. Bush!

Keep going... you are on your way!

It's easy for most people to sit on the sideline and say negative things because they don't have the guts to do anything decent for their country and fellow Americans!

    To Citizen –

YOu say the Republicans are nothing but Facists but let me extend that sentiment to say that the Democrats are nothing but Socialists Marxists as they want to tax to death every working American to give it to those on the welfare roles ...like Michelle said in a speech in NC...some of these people need to give up some of their pie to others who don't have much pie.

People are ridiculous. The spouse of the president or of any of the candidates means nothing. Michelle Obama means nothing, other than the ridiculousness of the controversy created over this issue is emblematic of the ridiculousness and lack of substance in the entire Obama campaign. Obama portrays his campaign as fundamentally different from any other in history; it's really not. That is simply a lie. Beyond that, his economic policies are a farce, designed to sound good to people who don't understand how the economy actually works.
You know why foreigners want Obama elected? Because they know that they will be able to walk all over him in diplomatic talks. It's like being given the choice between debating a law school professor or the captain of a high school debate team. Which would you choose, if you were in their shoes? It's fairly obvious.
So before you go ranting and raving about how Obama is the savior of this country, take a step back and consider what it really is that Obama is offering. Do the homework, instead of being caught up in the hype. It's great that a black man is finally a nominee for a major party. That is true progress, even if it did take too long. But as far as who he is and what he stands for, Obama is weak at best.

She did qualify her statement with "...in my adult life." She is a fairly young woman, and lets admit it – these last 8 years of George Bush and Co. have not exatly given many people something to be proud of.
