Obama: GOP will say ‘And did I mention he’s black?’" Photo credit: CNN.
JACKSONVILLE, Florida (CNN) - Barack Obama told supporters that Republicans will “try to make you afraid of me” in remarks he made Friday at a Florida fundraiser.
"The choice is clear. Most of all we can choose between hope and fear. It is going to be very difficult for Republicans to run on their stewardship of the economy or their outstanding foreign policy.
“We know what kind of campaign they’re going to run,” said the presumptive Democratic presidential nominee. “They’re going to try to make you afraid. They’re going to try to make you afraid of me. ‘He’s young and inexperienced and he’s got a funny name. And did I mention he’s black?’"
In similar comments at a Chicago fundraiser last Thursday, Obama told supporters that Republicans would try to portray both him and his wife Michelle as "scary."
"They’re going to try to make me into a scary guy,” he said last week. “They’re even trying to make Michelle into a scary person. Right?" And so that drumbeat – 'we’re not sure if he’s patriotic or not; we’re not sure if he is too black.'
"I don’t know, before I wasn’t black enough," said Obama. "'Now he might be too black. We don’t know whether he’s going to socialize – well, who knows what.'"
Last week, the Illinois senator’s campaign launched a Web site to directly respond to and discredit Internet rumors about him and his wife that have dogged his presidential effort.
I think Obama's logo is ingenious. Which is something that has been lacking in the White House the last 8 years, Ingenuity.
Obama... we know all about the republicans.
You are the sneaky, sleazy politician- orating about unity and hope and change... all the while using all the old dirty underhanded tricks to undermine and destroy and eliminate your competition.
Then making pretty speeches to cover up all your nasty tactics.
You recklessly divided the Democratic party by instigating hate and cleverly having your camp play the race card early on.
You used every nasty and unethical trick in the book. But calmly manipulate the public opinion to make people believe in your sincerity.
You are so phony.
Love Senator and Mrs. Obama! Bucking the trend and working toward much needed and long overdue change in our country's personality.
I'm not believing any of the garbage coming from the Republicans concerning the senator. Look at the mess we are all in due to only one Republican...........
Yes We Can!
Not this time Sen Obamas ...we know all about their playbook....Keep Hit' em before they hit us. Can't keep using the same playbook REP
BARACK THE VOTE PEOPLE............ 🙂
"They're going to try to make you afraid of me"...the only one who's made me afraid of Obama is Obama, and doing things like defacing the presidential logo by using it for his own personal use. I DON'T TRUST HIM AT ALL!!!
It is your arrogance and elitism that we dislike.
You are so full of yourself and you have obviously bought into all the hype that your campaign has created.
The kiddies may be fooled... but those of us who have seen the ease with which dictators manipulate the media and sway public opinion and encourage and nurture adoration... know exactly what you are.
Obama seems a regular guy to me. It would be cool to hang out with him. If you want to be afraid of the dark, you can be. But you can always choose to be a grown up. He's a fine man and he'll make a fine president. What we need to be afraid of is having a president who is going to implement common sense, pragmatic policies. That's Obama. McCain doesn't have any policies as far as I can tell. Other than to call Obama names and try to attack him personally. McCain has no honor.
and I thought he played the race card in the primary. WOW, I will love the rude awakening he will get when his race card playing nets him 200 electoral votes.
good. call the republican bigots out upfront before they start their smear campaign.
I am disappointed. Mr. Obama has been campaigning as the candidate for change, yet he cannot even come up with an original logo .
LORD, WHO CAN POSSIBLY BE AFRAID OF
ANYONE SPORTING THAT SMILE?
Like Obama is not trying to scare women into voting for him based on the fact that McCain will try to overturn Roe V Wade.
Obama you are NOT a role model I want my children to look up to.
Quit the crying and get on with the race.
I'm so glad he's taking these scummy scare tactics head-on.
It's good to see Obama acknowledging the doubts/unease that some people harbor with regards to his ethnicity.
Addressing these peoples concerns will go a long way in pushing back against the whisper campaigns.
Obama is so right about this.....seven years of Republican rule have trashed America on every level plus trapped us in an illegal and immoral war, so the NeoCons have nothing of positive substance to offer. So they will go right on hurting America by trying to demonize our best hope for healing and recovering from the tragedies of the Bush/Cheney regime. But what do they care....they all got even wealthier and can spend their days counting their treasure while collecting the huge lifetime benefits they reaped while in office. Bashing Obama with lies would be SOP for them.
In the words of my little niece, ewhy
Obama, there are Democrats who are afraid of you, considering the way you and your minions pushed and grabbed and bribed and took and weaseled your way off with a nomination that you didn't earn and you don't deserve. We will make sure that your sleazy tactics fail.
We're taking our party back. Tell Axelrod that money isn't all that matters in politics. You've all turned our Democratic Party into an undemocratic Democratic Party, and your days of calling yourselves leaders are numbered.
Count on it.
People, there is nothing to fear from socialism...you rock dali-bama.
I BET MOST OF HUSSEIN OBAMA WILL DUMP HIS AS SOON AS POSSIBLE FOR HAVING HILLARY CAMPAIGN FOR HIM.
The GOP trying to scare people to vote for them? NOOOOO. They wouldn't do that. They're so called Christians. Real Christians wouldn't make up lies. Obama must be mistaken.
I was a very strong Hillary Clinton supporter but I will NEVER vote for McCain over Obama ever, not even close. So I am pro-Obama now but I would really like to see them running together on a joint ticket.
Obama is right.
It's all fear and smear from the republican machine.
The same fearmongering used to elect Bush.
Not this time!!
IF THEY WANT SEE SOMETHING SCARY,
THEY NEED TO GOOGLE MCCAIN.
OR GO TO YOU TUBE, WATCH HIM FORGET
WHO WE ARE FIGHTING. OR, OR, OR,
Its sad how carl rove and his republican following will do every little dirty trick in the book to win, even if it means throwing the kitchen sink at Obama...
If America could shine as his smile, we'lll be alright.
