Obama: 'They're going to try to make you afraid of me'

JACKSONVILLE, Florida (CNN) - Barack Obama told supporters that Republicans will “try to make you afraid of me” in remarks he made Friday at a Florida fundraiser.

"The choice is clear. Most of all we can choose between hope and fear. It is going to be very difficult for Republicans to run on their stewardship of the economy or their outstanding foreign policy.

“We know what kind of campaign they’re going to run,” said the presumptive Democratic presidential nominee. “They’re going to try to make you afraid. They’re going to try to make you afraid of me. ‘He’s young and inexperienced and he’s got a funny name. And did I mention he’s black?’"

In similar comments at a Chicago fundraiser last Thursday, Obama told supporters that Republicans would try to portray both him and his wife Michelle as "scary."

"They’re going to try to make me into a scary guy,” he said last week. “They’re even trying to make Michelle into a scary person. Right?" And so that drumbeat – 'we’re not sure if he’s patriotic or not; we’re not sure if he is too black.'

"I don’t know, before I wasn’t black enough," said Obama. "'Now he might be too black. We don’t know whether he’s going to socialize – well, who knows what.'"

Last week, the Illinois senator’s campaign launched a Web site to directly respond to and discredit Internet rumors about him and his wife that have dogged his presidential effort.

I love how people make claims that someone is 'playing the race card' as if racial bias and bigotry in this country is analogous to a card game.

Well, all I can say is the same thing that happen to Karl Rove will happen to the republican party. They will go down just like him. I'm sure they still have his playbook........but who cares.

We have seen and heard all their little tricks and lies. Cindy McSame fits right in. But Michelle can make circles around her. She could never come close to Michelle even with all of her given money. Michell has values and know what it is to work hard. Nobody gave you guys anything, you had to work for it.

  7. No thanks Obama

It would be nice not to have to look up this arrogant guys nose for the next four years. That's the only thing I'm afraid of... pride! We've had too much of that in the White House lately, don't need more of it. Bye Obama.

It is not a matter of black or white ,what really matters here is experience and knowledge of being a good president and how to run this broken economy and political system which I think Obama has the least or no experience at all and people who voted for Hillary Clinton will have no other choice except to vote for a highly experienced and qualified candidate that would be John Maccain as the best and ultimate candidate for the president of the united states.

Wolf pretends he is sheep's best friend : If there is a party divided it is the republican party, and it was not Obama who did the sinking low..

Compared to McCain he is clean... Obama never cheated on his wife and married an other one, just because the second one was rich and 'perfect'... It was Bill who played the race card, calling the obama camp a fairy tale... Every time Obama was uplifting towards USA, us the people and the Clinton's they came out with something stupid... Sorry but this time Carl Rove tactics wont work...

Go back to foxnews and cry, because the people are voting smarter this time... Fear, smear, lies and war is out this year...

Who's the "They" Obama keeps talking about?
Sounds to me as though it's Obama talking about scary.
Sounds to me as though Obama is trying to start a wave of discord and negative sound bites talking news heads will verbally mull over ad nauseum.
    Stop it Obama.

Why did Barack back out of his campaign promise to use ONLY public funds for his presidential campaign? The fund totaled $84 million. Barack backtracked on his pledge to rid his party of special interest money. Hmm… what else will Barack go back on? Makes you wonder. Or, it should. But because so many of his followers have already swallowed his Kool-Aid, it’s highly unlikely anyone will raise a fuss. Let alone question his flip-flopping. McCain, on the other hand, said he will honor his campaign promise to use ONLY public funds.

I am an Obama supporter, but I DO wish that he would ditch playing the race card like that. Please stick to the issues and be ready to defend agaist the smears – but attacking blindly is not good.

It's arrogant to lead the country into a false war and drive the economy into a ditch. But wait,Bush had years of experience before he got elected. And arrogance is Cheney saying so...when asked what the American public thinks of the war.

All this talk about inexperience! Bush brought decades of experience from his father's regime into the White House again and look where it got us. How much experience did John Kennedy have? Or Woodrow Wilson? Or Teddy Rooosevelt? The Presidency is not a job one can prepare for with a resume! Choose the person you know has the best intellect, judgement, insight and statesmanship.
