Obama: 'They're going to try to make you afraid of me'

JACKSONVILLE, Florida (CNN) - Barack Obama told supporters that Republicans will “try to make you afraid of me” in remarks he made Friday at a Florida fundraiser.

"The choice is clear. Most of all we can choose between hope and fear. It is going to be very difficult for Republicans to run on their stewardship of the economy or their outstanding foreign policy.

“We know what kind of campaign they’re going to run,” said the presumptive Democratic presidential nominee. “They’re going to try to make you afraid. They’re going to try to make you afraid of me. ‘He’s young and inexperienced and he’s got a funny name. And did I mention he’s black?’"

In similar comments at a Chicago fundraiser last Thursday, Obama told supporters that Republicans would try to portray both him and his wife Michelle as "scary."

"They’re going to try to make me into a scary guy,” he said last week. “They’re even trying to make Michelle into a scary person. Right?" And so that drumbeat – 'we’re not sure if he’s patriotic or not; we’re not sure if he is too black.'

"I don’t know, before I wasn’t black enough," said Obama. "'Now he might be too black. We don’t know whether he’s going to socialize – well, who knows what.'"

Last week, the Illinois senator’s campaign launched a Web site to directly respond to and discredit Internet rumors about him and his wife that have dogged his presidential effort.

Maybe if you actually took a stand and stuck to it, we would feel differently.

But you change your positions daily. Every time it suits you, you morph into another position or stance.

You are slick and sleazy but can not sell yourself to me.

I see right through your propaganda.

I hate being manipulated... so I will never vote for you

The quesion should be, what does America needs at this moment in time and I think the answer should be a good President, a President not just for the rich but for every single American. And that's what I see in Obama. McCain doesn't have what it takes to be President at this time.

I guess Hillary and her "bitter" Clinton supporters need Obama (and supporters) more than Obama needs Hillary..

Obama can win those battle-ground DEM states without the help of Hillary.

Hillary needs the help of Obama to pay her sagging bills, loans etc. This is how terribly Hillary managed her campaign. I guess Hillary and her bitter followers need to beg Obama to come their help!!!

Bottom line, call on McCain to help retire Hillary's debts, loans...!

There is only one choice – Obama. John McCain is a continuation of Bush policy and philosophy. We have been poisoned with Bush for 8 long years. He didn’t' listen to us, he was arrogant, and is STILL saying he didn't do wrong in Iraq. He failed this country and spit in our faces. McCain = Bush.

THERE IS NO ONE AFRAID OF YOU OBAMA . SUCH PEOPLE LIKE YOU COME AND THEY GO. YOU MAY WIN THE WHITE HOUSE. BUT, THE AMERICAN PEOPLE WILL PAY DEARLY FOR IT. IGNORANCE IS BLISS. SO ALL YOU WHITES THAT THINK YOUR DOING SUCH AN HONORABLE THING FOR VOTING FOR THIS MAN BECAUSE YOU ARE NOT A RACIST THEN THINK AGAIN. THIS IS NOT A RACIST COMMENT. LOOK AT THE ISSUES. LOOK AT THE SNAKES THAT KEEP POPPING UP ON THIS MAN. HE IS PURE EVIL AND YOU ARE GONG TO PUT HIM IN OFFICE. I WOULDN'T VOTE FOR HIM WHOMEVER HE HAS ON THE TICKET WITH HIM. HEAVEN FORBID IT BE HILLARY. THEN I WILL JUST HAVE TO ADMIT THAT SHE HAS NO MOTIVE BUT HER OWN TO BE PRESIDENT SOMEDAY. BUT SHE IS SO WRONG IN THIS MANNER TO ACHIEVE IT. SAY NO TO OBAMA SAY NO TO OBAMA/HILLARY.

  16. Nice guys.

I support Barack Obama mainly because of his views on foreign policy, the economy, and his environmental stance. His bottom up economic message hits home and his sincerity in finding alternative solutions to our energy crisis are at the top of my list.

His foresight to vote against an illegal war is huge for me as I understand the constitution and the United Nations charter. The numerous violations of this charter have harmed our reputation around the world measurably. His charisma and candor will and is resonating around the globe and his willingness to use diplomacy instead of brazen arrogance is a sure indicator of what kind of character he is. A leader we can be proud of. A leader who made the Harvard law review and taught constitutional law. A leader who will look to advisor's but use his own judgment. A leader with strong morals.

A leader who will deliver our country to the forefront of the movement to improve the world as a whole while rebuilding our reputation as the shining bastion in the west we once were. A leader with caliber.

I support Barack Obama because I believe in hope.

I had respect for this man until this stunt . As a former member of the armed forces , I take this as an insult , as should all past and present service members . We soldiers past and present swore to protect this country , and that seal represents our country and Our Commander In Chief. My eyes are wide open now , and I can see that the changes Obama promises would not be in the best interest of this country . He has lost my vote , and I suggest he takes a few years to grow up before trying to become the leader of the United States Of America . We need a " Patriot " in office , not another 2 faced fake. Maybe Obama should take his new improved Seal over to the soldiers in Iraq , and Afghanistan and see what they think . I don't think he'd receive a warm welcome .

Seems there are some who have forgotten the Bush/Rove fear tactics and the constant terrorist warnings before the last election are arrogant fools. Haven't you noticed we haven't had any terrorist warnings since Bush won the last election?

During the 1999 GOP campaign they attacked Cindy McCain when John pulled ahead in the polls by saying she was still a Rx drug user, which she started while McCain was under investigation for the Keating Five scandal.

God help our country and all Americans if McCain is elected. A war that won't end, our economy going down the tubes, unemployment, the housing crisis, health care, out of control gas prices...do I need to go on?
By the way, for those who have forgotten their U.S. history; Bush One put the freeze on off-shore drilling.

Mr. Obama, it's not that we're afraid of you. And it's not your skin color. It's that you are a lying, sneaky, arrogant, cocky, condescending, cocaine-sniffing, deceptive, ignorant choice for POTUS. And your resume stinks, too!

No one has to make anyone afraid of you.You are doing just fine. You are pompous, insincere, elitist, radical, racist, inexperienced, transparent, and you think the American people are stupid and beneath you. We've seen you before Senator. You appear all through history.America is desparate which is why you are not selling used cars somewhwere.
Are Americans stupid? We'll find out pretty soon.I am not for John McCain. I wish we were given a good choice to lead this country. What is clear is that you aren't that person.

People should view Obama as scary. Not because he's black, but because he is totally, completely unqualified to be President. It takes more than a good stump speech in front of a crowd to run a country. Obama is a holigram. He looks good and sounds good, but there's no substance. What's his economic plan? Raise taxes. What's his energy plan? Raise taxes. Higher taxes, that's change you can count on.

    You lie

    You back-peddle

    You play the race card.

    You act superior.

You mock and jeer and swagger.

    You shift on your positions.

    You betray people.

THAT IS WHY WE DISLIKE AND MISTRUST YOU.

I FEAR THE WAY YOU HAVE BEEN ABLE TO INFLUENCE THE YOUTH JUST LIKE HITLER DID IN GERMANY.

It is up to us adults to see who and what you are and to prevent you from manipulating your way into the presidency.

    you don't fool me:

It is your arrogance and elitism that we dislike.

You are so full of yourself and you have obviously bought into all the hype that your campaign has created.

The kiddies may be fooled… but those of us who have seen the ease with which dictators manipulate the media and sway public opinion and encourage and nurture adoration… know exactly what you are.

It appear there's fear, and a strong inferiority issue – No you don't fool us either
