Obama: 'They're going to try to make you afraid of me'

Obama: GOP will say ‘And did I mention he’s black?’" Photo credit: CNN.

JACKSONVILLE, Florida (CNN) - Barack Obama told supporters that Republicans will “try to make you afraid of me” in remarks he made Friday at a Florida fundraiser.

"The choice is clear. Most of all we can choose between hope and fear. It is going to be very difficult for Republicans to run on their stewardship of the economy or their outstanding foreign policy.

“We know what kind of campaign they’re going to run,” said the presumptive Democratic presidential nominee. “They’re going to try to make you afraid. They’re going to try to make you afraid of me. ‘He’s young and inexperienced and he’s got a funny name. And did I mention he’s black?’"

In similar comments at a Chicago fundraiser last Thursday, Obama told supporters that Republicans would try to portray both him and his wife Michelle as "scary."

"They’re going to try to make me into a scary guy,” he said last week. “They’re even trying to make Michelle into a scary person. Right?" And so that drumbeat – 'we’re not sure if he’s patriotic or not; we’re not sure if he is too black.'

"I don’t know, before I wasn’t black enough," said Obama. "'Now he might be too black. We don’t know whether he’s going to socialize – well, who knows what.'"

Last week, the Illinois senator’s campaign launched a Web site to directly respond to and discredit Internet rumors about him and his wife that have dogged his presidential effort.

  1. Sick and Tired of Obama's Arrogance

First, this is coming from an Independent, not a Republican. Second, this is from a well educated white male who believes in giving everyone a chance. Race is never a factor. In the matter of fact, should Rice or Powell ever decide to run for elected office... I would vote for them in a heartbeat. Now, with this out of the way, I do need to say, I am very disappointed in what the USA has become. We are a blame everyone except myself society. We believe in what is being fed to us, but I am smart enough to check out track records, and what the candidates have done before voting for them. You know what? Obama doesn't have a track record, except dividing people. We all saw he was able to get the Democratic Party and DNC against the Clinton's. He is partisanship to the core, and has no interest working with Republicans/Independents, yet he wants their vote. Out vote? For change we can believe in? I don't believe anything he says. Nothing at all. Clinton's arrogance did him in as President, and got him impeached. Can this country survive an another arrogant Democrat? No. Remember, people what goes around comes around, and becareful what you wish for as we're in for a long 4 years if Obama gets in. McCain is the lesser of two evils, and has my vote in November. Remember, Experience v. Inexperience Also, 9/11 happened after Clinton cut back our defense so much that Osama waited for the right time to strike. We were not prepared. Why do you think Chavez, Iran, Hamas, Hezbollah, and others want Obama in? Think about it.

I just cant understand why he keeps beating black?

    Oh, my goodness, poor Obama!

"Actually, Barrack, "THEY" don't "make me afraid about you" –YOU make me afraid of you!

And it doesn't matter to me that you're "young and sorta black or sorta not black" - whatever! I care that you're GREEN - my country deserves better than that!

YOU, Obama, are NOT trustworthy. YOU are merely an OPPORTUNIST who decided that NOW (after one speech in 2004 and a couple of self-serving books) it was as as a good a time as any to "milk" the system - and then you found Axelrod (your brain) - and life became perfect!.

YOU have no resume, no experience, no real solutions - just regurgitation of others' ideas. HOWEVER! I must say that you are really, really good at playing the suckers!

(And, by the way, your "dispel the rumors" website is one LAME place! Nothing but yada, yada, yada!) Hope your "contributors" understand that they're paying for it!

Not afraid of Obama – but not impressed either. In fact, the longer this drags on, the less I like what I see. He's George Bush in blackface.

For once I' m glad Nader is running. Last time he was just spoiler enough to deny Gore the presidency (which broke my heart). But this time, between Nader siphoning off Green voters and a portion of Democratic voters, and McCain picking up millions of Hillary's Democratic voters, Obama may get what he deserves: his Senate seat back. Can't wait.

Americans are so stupid seriously its hilarious how a picture can sway an adult to change their perspective and this is coming from a teenager!! and about the logo its just showing that he is for america hence the american bald eagle below the phrase "yes we can" in latin it just means he is for america but you so called "educated adults" get swayed so easily and act like 4 year olds on a play ground...you people make me sick and ashamed to be an american...way to represent our country.

Hey Barack – I'm not afraid of you – I'm afraid of the Fear-Mongers on the republican side.

I admire you and your wife for pulling yourselves up by your bootstraps and wanting to help the rest of us do the same.

Thanks for the clean campaign, and for your integrity.

Reading a lot of these comments, the only thing i have to
fear is quite a lot of my hateful, ignorant fellow Americans.
thankfully there are also some people balancing out the
commentary expressing their understanding that this is
a true leader emerging. Obama has my prayers, blessings,
    and support, and vote.

  20. C, A,

I'm an Obama supporter, to the loss of a few Republican friends. It is my opinion that this logo is not in Barack's best interest. I recommend that it be scrapped in favor of a new idea that reflects nothing similar to the presidential seal.

Very sad and yes Obama ... "Scared". We have seen him get away with so much already.. makes me wonder what changes he is really seeking.. Freedom???.. why change what our country stands for.. by putting your mug on the seal.. Dictator? very sad that your followers are like sheep being led to slaughter.. If you were for the "people" why so much emphasis on "you". His whole campaign is about the man obama.. he is either defending his character, color, beliefs, religion, wife, blah blah... seems to weezle out of debates or anything to defend the real issues he should be worrying about.. He has blinded the whole country.. even Al Gore.. sigh.. thought he was wiser .. Yes I am very scared.. what is our country coming too.. Please God Bless America!!

Republicans will try everything to scare people..Don't fall on it...
We need a change.. Bush failed on everything... prices went up for everything from gas to cooking salt. He lied to us several times about war and other things. Don't trust republicans and their nominee John Maccain.. VOTE FOR MR. OBAMA..
    YES! WE CAN....

  23. worst pol of them all

The fact that you are the worst dirty politician in my 35 year voting history is what makes me afraid of you.

Your cult-like control over a hateful band of blind followers that will obey all your internet instructions... that is what makes me afraid of you.

The way you have the audacity to compare yourself with our best, TRUE leaders- JFK, MLK and RFK- although you are nothing like them and have never achieved anything on your own merits... that is why I fear you.

The way you lie as easily as you smile... that is why I fear you.

The way you bullied and forced and threatened your way into the nomination (the young people will just stay home... the AAs will blackout the vote)... Oh yeah? Are you saying your followers don't care enough for their country to vote unless you are coronated the KING?.. that is why I am afraid of you.

The way you manipulate and use the media to sway public opinion your way... the skillful use of propaganda... that is why I fear you.

You played every card and pulled every trick- the only thing you DID NOT do is play fair and win on your merits.

You disenfranchised voters, and thugged at caucus, and mocked and jeered HRC.

    Go away you weasel.

Well there are people that know what is right on their own and there are people that know what is right when some one tells them. And then there a lot of the ones that dont want to listen and think what they know is right.

This Election, Prepare to listen and think because it doesnt just determine what your next four years will be, it determines the all the years to come, not only yours but fellow humans from the rest of the World like me.
