WASHINGTON (CNN) - A Democratic lawmaker's comment that he was "glad" that a top aide to Vice President Dick Cheney could be identified by al Qaeda has sparked outrage among Republicans at the White House and on Capitol Hill.
During a contentious House hearing on harsh interrogation techniques for terror suspects Thursday, Rep. Bill Delahunt, D-Massachusetts, was pressing David Addington, the vice president's chief of staff, about meetings he attended while serving as Cheney's chief counsel.
Delahunt asked repeatedly whether the topic of waterboarding, a controversial interrogation technique that simulates drowning, ever came up.
Addington replied that he could not discuss that because "al Qaeda may watch C-SPAN."
"Right," Delahunt responded. "Well, I'm sure they are watching, and I'm glad they finally have the chance to see you, Mr. Addington."
"Yeah, I'm sure you're pleased," Addington shot back.
"Given your penchant for being unobtrusive," Delahunt said about Addington's ability to stay behind the scenes.
Delahunt was too nice to Addington
That response was a TEXTBOOK smear. "I don't want to to sa Dick Cheney a traitor to his country, but I just want to talk about his behavior last 8 years $4.50 gas at bum.. as it pertains to the term traitor."
Sounds like "Fist pound? knuckle-bump? Terrorist Fist Jab????" to me. "I'm not saying that Delahunt is a terrorist. I just want to talk about him and his body language as it pertains to the act of being a terrorist."
Does anyone remember the movie "3 Days of the Condor?" If I am not mistaken, in this movie the villain was a Mr. Addington who also had grand plans for the Middle East. Eerie!....
If democrats would learn to keep their mouth shut, the world would be a better place. I'm sure they will now want to create a sub-committee to determine if the comment was warranted and how it should have been phrased in a kinder gentler way! Hey Democrat's stop wasting my tax dollars and get to work on more important issues!
What a stupid thing for the Demacrat to say.
I loved Addingtons response.
You dems sure are in love with these poor terrorists aren't you.
Is this to harsh for CNN to Post???
This is the politics of conflict, combativeness and inertia for the last 30 years that accomplishes nothing. BOTH MEN ARE WRONG! It's not about politics or political parties, IT'S ABOUT AMERICA!
When these politicians decide to cease acting like 5th graders at a lunch table American can get out of the mess we are in.
This is what makes Obama such an attractive candidate for people sick and tired of the politics of the last 30 years. No more Atwater, H.W. Bush, Carville, Clinton, Rove, W or Hillary or the biggest stooge and enabler, the Mainstream Media...
So should all politicians not speak on TV because of Al Qaeda. That's the lamest excuse in the world. This administration has screwed things up so bad and has divided our country in half. The rest of you republicians on here quit acting like Bush is being attacked and blasted unfairly. You know darn well, it's his fault we're in the mess we're in now. Playing stupid is no excuse for accountability.
Well put "typical white person". The Bush admin was criticized for not talking unilaterally with N. Korea, but then they say Bush always tries to "go it alone" without going to the world community for help. That is exactly what Bush did in this instance. They insisted on the 6 way talks and it seems to be working, just like Libya worked and very soon Iraq will work.
The hate, the name calling and the lack of facts on these posts is breath taking and it's all been started and been fanned by the Democrat leadership in congress. I don't think congressman Delahunt meant it the way it came out but there is such a frenzy of hatred out there that many would be overjoyed if the POTUS and members of his Admin were really tried in the World Court even though the UN and the US Congress approved the overthrough of Saddam overwhelmingly.
CNN you need to use some judgement on whose posts you let on here,( even though mine don't get on ). Some, like Irene from michigan who posted "I hate Republicans" certainly don't move the conversation forward.
