(CNN) - Clinton campaign chairman Terry McAuliffe assured CNN’s Candy Crowley that former President Bill Clinton and presumptive Democratic nominee Barack Obama will be discussing Clinton’s role in the campaign within the next two days.
“I believe that in the next 24 to 48 hours they will talk and off we will go,” McAuliffe stated on Sunday’s Late Edition.
Clinton has remained behind the scenes so far during the general election. He was not present at the Democratic event in Unity, New Hampshire on Friday and has only released a one-sentence statement saying that he will do whatever he can to help the Illinois senator win the election.
Many analysts have said that Clinton’s not-so-subtle absence from the campaign is because he is angry and bitter about his wife losing the nomination.
McAuliffe defended the former president, saying that he has been taking time to let his wife finish up her campaign and secure her relationship with Obama.
“She was the candidate, she got 18 million votes, she’s the political leader of the Clinton family now,” McAuliffe said.
Obama asked to talk to President Clinton on Friday and Hillary Clinton told him, “Absolutely,” according to McAuliffe.
Now that President Clinton is back from a five-nation tour during which he attended Nelson Mandela’s 90th birthday party, McAuliffe predicts that they will be speaking shortly—but stressed that the attention should be on Hillary Clinton and Obama coming together.

I think clinton is angry about Obamas clear racism toward him...
Obama should stay clear of the Clintons. They cannot be trusted.
Obama is the President and Hillary Clinton is the Vice President
Bill Clinton is the Secretety of State
Bill will toe the party line....he is a Democrat all the way!
OBAMA '08 and '12
Clinton was a good president. Restored America's prestige in the world after years of Reagan/Bush. But Obama will be a great president.
Well guys and gals, i honestly would vote for Hilary or Barack so im putting my interest of the party over the individual candidate, which is how ive always voted. When i look at the values and traditions of the Rep party , im reminded once again to why im a bonified Democrat.
Everyone knew that he was going to endorse Obama. Bill doesn't want a Republican as president. Yes we can and we will!
To GT/Florida:
They are "making nice." That's why they wrote checks to pay off HRC's debt!
President Clinton should only campaign as he did if his wife is on the ticket. Otherwise the way Obama, his campaign, and his supportters treated him,,I would tell them to leap into the flame of McCain.
If he plans to help Obama like he helped Hillary, I'd say "thanks but no thanks."
Question- Where is Terry Mc Aulliffe going to fit in this election ? Obama has a laid back campaign not always in the cups like in Senator Hiillary's where he drank with Mika and Joe on Morning Joe?
He seems more out of control than President Clinton. Had he not introduced Senator Hillary as the next President after Senator Barack Obama had enough to declare the nomination. He might need some Ritalin to fit into this campaign. Senator Barak needs Chelsa more than Terry.
Will Carville make up with Governor Richardson, Donna? When and where? Please stay on this story. It's crucial for the party in the coming together.
Obamanites, the truth is, if Bill is willing to do what Barack needs of him, then does that not say that Bill is truly willing to help get Obama elected?. We all know the Clintons, and we know they are not into being forced or hogtied into doing anything they dont have their heart into. Bill Clinton will still be just as liked and loved when the party is united.
I don't care what kind of a deal Bill Clinton, McAuliffe and Obama try to scrape together.....my vote will still go to McCain.
I vote person, not party. Always have. I supported HIllary, but my second choice is McCain. At least he is a decent and honorable man.
P.U.M.A.
No Abomination in the Presidency!
Well Barack DID say he'd meet with any sort of dictator woth no preconditions ..........
Bill Clinton is possibly the most important supporter Obama can have, it was during his presidency that America was its most prosperous in recent years, and it's only since he left that things have gone bad. bill was a great president, and Obama will be one too.
Don't move a finger for that Jerk Obama, Mr. Clinton.
Let him sink all by himself along with all their supporters.
Si se puede, si se puede!...............
Vamos a la casa blanca en 20081
He is trying to protect his legacy.he know obama will be the greatest president ever known so bill clinton dont his own his to die.
Obama is a fraud. He preaches change, but continues to deal with the old timers.
McAulliffe needs to remove his nose from the business of others. I firmly believe that it was Terry's tactics, coupled with Bill's behavior, that damaged Hillary's campaign beyond repair.
LET BILL FADE INTO OBSCURITY WHERE HE BELONGS.
If Obama can't win without the Clintons what the hell is he doing there.he stole his senate seat with technically legal but very unethical means he bought the nomination from his party now he wants to ride to the white house on somebody else's coat tails.take away his telepronter and let him accept Mccain's invitation to town hall meetings where he can answer for himself and not read from prepared script or answer prearranged questions from stooges in the audience
Don't do it Obama; if you do persuaded by bill to put hillary on the ticket you will regret the consequence. Choose the best not the least.
I think that Bill Clinton maybe can be of use to help Hillary become President in 2016.
For now Obama has to keep his winning track with the staff which supported him through the primaries and leave Bill out of this campaign.
I believe that his contribution can harm him a lot.
If there is one thing Bill Clinton is not, it is stupid. He knows an Obama presidency would be like! 🙁
It will be very interesting to see how this plays out. 🙂
Bill Clinton was a caring president who dealt with the issues of the poor and disenfranchised. I believe Hillary would be even better! 🙂
I respect the Clintons, but I don't trust the obfuscating media myth, Obama, at all. He has no moral center. 🙁
This former Democrat will vote for the only wise choice left – McCain 08! 🙂
