[cnn-photo-caption image= http://i2.cdn.turner.com/cnn/2008/images/06/30/art.mccaintruth.ap.jpg caption="McCain is launching a truth squad."](CNN) - John McCain’s campaign announced Monday it was launching a new Truth Squad to defend the presumptive Republican nominee’s military record after controversial comments by former Gen. Wes Clark, an Obama supporter, who said Sunday that the Arizona senator’s service in Vietnam did not mean that he was qualified to serve as commander-in-chief.
Leaders of the latest group include McCain’s fellow Vietnam prisoners of war Air Force Col. Bud Day and Marine Lt.Col. Orson Swindle, along with former Navy pilot Carl Smith, who served with him.
Earlier in the primary season, the campaign created a similar effort in advance of the presidential primary in South Carolina, where McCain’s 2000 White House bid was derailed by rumors spread by supporters of then-Texas Gov. George W. Bush.
The South Carolina group included Adjutant General Stan Spears, state Attorney General Henry McMaster, House Speaker Bobby Harrell and Seventh Circuit Solicitor Trey Gowdy.
Earlier this month, Barack Obama’s campaign launched an aggressive effort to respond to and discredit e-mail rumors about the presumptive Democratic nominee, including a new Web site that gives supporters the ability to upload their address books for rapid response messages and a chart that lays out alleged sources of misinformation.
After what your shadow Joe Lieberman just said, get the hell outta here! You have some nerve...
WELL IF HE IS REACTING TO THIS SO QUICKLY WHY CAN'T HE REACT TO MORE INFORMATIVE QUESTIONS THE PEOPLE WOULD LIKE TO KNOW???
HE'S FULL OF McSAME!!!!!
OBAMA 08
Hehe, I wonder how he likes it. We ALL know that McCain's a war hero, but Clark is right, that alone does not make him "ready one day one".
I don't understand how the comments by Gen. Clark are controversial. Bob Schieffer made a comment about Obama never being shot down in a plane as some sort of advantage for McCain. Clark simply replied that being shot down doesn't qualify you for president. How is that bad? It happens to be TRUE!
Clark is a little prima dona weasel. He should look at his own record.
McCain needs a truth squad given the rumors being spread by Obama supporters. Politics is dirty, and the rumors are worse.
Love the "squad" part...sounds fascist. I wonder if he'll have "goons" break arms and bust heads and stuff.
Joe McCarthy would be proud!!
"Truth Squad?" You mean SWIFT BOAT, don't you?
let the swiftboating begin!
Check Out Mc 2 Old...stealing a page from Obama by setting up a "TRUTH" page. He just gets more & more Pathetic. LOL
How about telling the truth on your flip-flops McCain. You cannot be trusted for anything you say. I don't believe anything that comes out of your mouth. You are an angry man, who doesn't believe in the equality of women.
You should do this McCain–there are so many lies that the truth is beggin to find her way out..
While I completely respect McCain's military record, I also do not think he is any more experienced than any of the other people who have run for nominee of the Repub party. Even GW Bush used that in 2000 against McCain.
From things MCCain has said, I fear that he is just another Goldwater, talking about all of our "enemies" and that we won't talk to them until they become Democratic nations. Its just not our job to make the whole world Democratic. Its our job to be a great model for strength, honor and morals. If we are the model, and other countries strive to be like us, that's wonderful. However, nobody is wanting to be like us anymore, they want to get rid of us. And the problem is people like McCain. We need diplomacy, honesty and strength. We need people to respect our country, something which hasn't been done in years.
When Obama is President, he will have access to the same military advisors as McWarmonger.
Since Obama listens, and McWarmonger can't hear or remember, I'll take my chances with the younger, more vital guy, instead of the one that is pasty looking and deaf and dumb.
Has McWarmonger already been embalmed?
He has been having these truth quards before. He even have a generous one that says Obama is arrogant(Karl Rove).
Should we be told that he has a truth squard when all he does is attack Obama and lie about his record. Recycle the already used stuff by Hillary and getting everyone worked up with lies from Liberman?
They don't have to launch one because Obama didn't attack him!
This won't work. McCain doesn't have a chance against Barack because we want change.j
Okay, let's give him credit for his war record. It still does not make him a better president at this time. The country has moved to a different place, and there's no room for McCain's world. We are tired of war and want peace. McCain wants more war, even though Iraq was a mistake.
I'm voting for Barack Obama, and I can't wait. My friends and I are having an elections return party. It will be a happy day.
I've got a suggestion. If McCain wants people to know the truth about his military record then all he has to do is release those records. You have to ask yourself if he's so interested in telling the truth then why won't he release them.
Gen Clark was 100% right. There's more to being President than being a warmonger.
I am John Mccain and I approve this lie squard!
The new revolution will not be televised!!!
The TRUTH is we're paying $4.67 a gallon for gas. We have two oil men in the White House, and the oil companies have made record profits. Now that's the truth, and you were saying John?
Obama 08
As if Obama has more "experience" to be president that McCain!? Oh well, I guess it looked good on paper, hey Wesley...
Actually America is the one that needs a truth sqad! A truth sqad to replace most of these biasedly corrupt news companies now openly supporting Obama as a presidential candidate!!
That alone is enough to lose my vote...
See, as much as I love our men and women in uniform, I am not naive enough to believe that just because you serve in the military, you are automatically qualified to lead the nation. Now, maybe if he had been a military COMMANDER, an Admiral or a General, I'd give the argument a bit more weight.
Sad to say, as much as you have to give credit to McCain for enduring the ordeal he went through, this does not qualify him to be commander in chief all on it's own merit.
Why does Mr. MaGoo have to name everything he does? Straight-talk-express, Lexington Project, Truth Squad, etc. Is it so we can remember the names, or so he can?
We all know 35 years ago blah blah...........................American Hero!
But I tend to see a Commander in Chief also in another light. There are many Presidents that never served in the Military.
Sometimes intelligence and common sense trumps. Take Bush he has ran the country straight into the ground now we need to look at someone with intelligence and ambition to lead for change!
Sometimes folks need a different mind set other than WAR!
I am John Mccain and I approve this straight talk express!
