McCain Truth Squad defender was Swift Boat Vet member

[cnn-photo-caption image= http://i2.cdn.turner.com/cnn/2008/images/06/30/art.budday.cnn.jpg caption="Former Col. Bud Day appeared in a 2004 Swift Boat Vets spot."] (CNN) - One of the members of John McCain’s new Truth Squad - which his campaign says was launched to respond to unfair attacks on his record of military service –- was a member of the Swift Boat Veterans for Truth, and appeared in an attack ad for the group in 2004.

The group was created to attack 2004 Democratic nominee John Kerry’s military service record.

"How can you expect our sons and daughters to follow you when you condemned their fathers and grandfathers?" asked former Air Force Col. Bud Day, who was a prisoner of war with McCain in Vietnam, in a 2004 Swift Boat Vets spot.

McCain has said that he opposed the group’s efforts.

On a campaign conference call Monday, a Politico reporter asked Day if there was any similarity between former Gen. Wesley Clark’s controversial Sunday comments about McCain’s military service and his own remarks about John Kerry during the last presidential campaign.

Day dismissed any equivalence. "The Swift Boat 'attacks' were simply revelation of the truth. The similarity does not exist here," he said. "…One was about laying out the truth. This one is about attempting to cast a new shadow on John McCain."

Surprise Surprise! McBush is using the swift boating republicans-oh yeah, that's what he is! Guess Obama was smart to turn down that 80M. He'll need much more to fight McBush now that the old man's campaign staff IS the swift boat!

I think I have a solution........let my boy become the Economic Adviser, and let Senator McCain become the National Security adviser....

Let's see what choice matters to you....and by the way, there's no wrong or right answer...

McCain has some nerve after what they did to John Kerry. Military record or no military record...McCain is just completely two-faced!!!

Clark's comments were NOT an attack on McCain's record. Clarks commended McCain's service as Obama ALWAYS has. Clark's comments were right on...being in the military and POW doesn't mean you ready to be CIC. McCain is just trying to make Clark's statement into something because he's desperate.

Oh please, you Log Cabin Repugs, now when them same clowns doing the 2004 election, what did they do, trash Kerry record. So now they war questioning, McSane record, it a foul call, give me a break. What the Gen. said is right and if the Gen said anything wrong at all. The only thing McSane have to do is release his miltary records. McSane camp is so quick to reply back to something that was said, all he have to do is release his records. Or he must have something to hide. The media need to get off there butts and ask McSane where is his records and if he don't release them well the public can judge for themself. We ain't Stupid!!!!!!!!! Can someone please give McBaby and the rest of them crooks a bottle because they keep crying. Please put the old people to bed, but before change his depend!!!!!

John "95%-Bush-voter" McCain is just like Bush. Loyalty over competence. Sign up anyone and investigate them later like the hapless Rev. Haggee.

Funny how what goes around comes around. Perhaps McCain should have thought about that when HE was attacking Kerry's military service in 2004. What? McCain thought somehow he'd be immune to the same questionings and attacks if/when he ran again?

Yep, remember, what goes around truly does come around and bites you where it hurts most.

Typical republican logic, it is wrong and nothing but lies when the republican's are attacked, but completely justified when republicans play dirty politics against a democrat. I am already sick of McBush, no make that McWhine and all his crying supporters...boo hoo! You all need some cheese to go with all that WHINE?!!!

First off, get things in context. Wesley Clark said:

"He (McCain) hasn't been there and ordered the bombs to fall. He hasn't seen what it's like when diplomats come in and say, 'I don't know whether we're going to be able to get this point through or not,' .

Schieffer noted that Obama did not have any of those experiences either nor has he "ridden in a fighter plane and gotten shot down."

"Well, I don't think riding in a fighter plane and getting shot down is a qualification to be president," Clark said.

So you see he was replying to the insinuation by Schieffer that "getting shot down" qualifies you to be President, not questioning McCain's service or patriotism.

Unfortunately, we live in a "sound-bite", "take it out of context" world and the media is largely responsible. Hopefully, people are waking up - but I doubt it.

there's one problem with your 'Truth Squad' Senator McCain. General Clark wasn't questioning what you did during your military service, rather he was stating that being a POW doesn't qualify one to be commander in chief. Get real, so much for the 'straight talk express'

Hey NObama – Dear McSameabot – You ought to practice what you preach. Your ignorance is pathetic. I have over 25 years of military service yo my country and two of my sons are in the military and have gone on multiple tours ot Iraq and Afghanistan, How about you? Besides, Gen Clark was spot on correct. Being a POW doesn't give you executive experience. Semms any moron would go along with the plain simple fact.
