McCain Truth Squad defender was Swift Boat Vet member

[cnn-photo-caption image= http://i2.cdn.turner.com/cnn/2008/images/06/30/art.budday.cnn.jpg caption="Former Col. Bud Day appeared in a 2004 Swift Boat Vets spot."] (CNN) - One of the members of John McCain’s new Truth Squad - which his campaign says was launched to respond to unfair attacks on his record of military service –- was a member of the Swift Boat Veterans for Truth, and appeared in an attack ad for the group in 2004.

The group was created to attack 2004 Democratic nominee John Kerry’s military service record.

"How can you expect our sons and daughters to follow you when you condemned their fathers and grandfathers?" asked former Air Force Col. Bud Day, who was a prisoner of war with McCain in Vietnam, in a 2004 Swift Boat Vets spot.

McCain has said that he opposed the group’s efforts.

On a campaign conference call Monday, a Politico reporter asked Day if there was any similarity between former Gen. Wesley Clark’s controversial Sunday comments about McCain’s military service and his own remarks about John Kerry during the last presidential campaign.

Day dismissed any equivalence. "The Swift Boat 'attacks' were simply revelation of the truth. The similarity does not exist here," he said. "…One was about laying out the truth. This one is about attempting to cast a new shadow on John McCain."

i don't believe you Obama supporters. Google Bud Day and then tell me he's lying! You people don't know the real deal when it's right in fromnt of you.

Susan. You should be ashamed of saying a Medal of Honor recipient is a disgrace to his uniform. Do you call yourself an American? It's people like Bud Day who are respoonsible for defending the right of free speech that you are abusing today.

Who is more qualified to send our troops into harms way to protect our lives? Someone who KNOWS the dangers first hand or someone who's never even had to lift a finger in labor or held a gun?

I want to also ask how being a POW qualifies you to be president? I think Johnny Boy is suffering from his own form of Post Traumatic Stress Disorder and needs to go home. NOT back to the Senate. HOME. He will never be a part of the future-he can"t GOOGLE!

Kerry was the only viet nam veteran to have three wounds and never bleed to get out of nam and throw someone elses medal over the White House fence...Release your medical records Mr. Heinz..

This is ridiculous! For this guy to say that he was exposing truth about Kerry with a straight face is beyond the pale. The SB Veterans for Lies was a purely Republican funded organization set to tarnish the military credintials of John Kerry. They were proven wrong by people who served with Kerry and Navy documents. I have nothing but contempt for the likes of Day and others who knowlingly submitted false accusations and outright lies about a fellow service member.

End this kind of politics - VOTE FOR CHANGE - VOTE FOR OBAMA!

Regarding Clark's comments about Mccain's military experience, I think he raises a valid point. I don't, however, think that disqualifies him from being able to run our country; and to make the argument that Obama has no military experience is invalid because Obama is not running his campaign on "I once served in a war, so I should be president....."

Here go the Republicans again. They have an old has been for a candidate, who will lose by a land slide, so now they have to try go go back to the 2004 play book.

    1. Make the people think that we will be attacked soon.
    2. Anyone that disagrees with McSame is a traitor

By the way, how does McSame manage to get paid for being in the Senate, when he hasn't made a vote on anything since April. If he was in the military, he would have been listed as AWOL months ago.

Something smells fishy. It is not going to work this time republicans . This is an incenetive for me to work harder and give more to keep the Republicans out of the White house in 2009 and as long as possible.

America needs constructive efforts. If McCain have not noticed
1 The economy is in shambles
2 Farms and cities are flooding
    3 Foreclosures
    4 Energy crisis
    5 Education in disrepair

Bud Day, was held in captivity with McCain as a POW. That is why he was on the call to defend McCain's actions when he was in captivity against the charges from Clark. McCain has said he was against the attacks on Kerry. Clark is the one who called Kerry out for only being a Lt.

Well, that's a load of 'newspeak'. It bring into question the legitimacy of this group. It has been proven that the swiftboat attacks on John Kerry were out-and-out lies.
Another reason to vote AGAINST McCain.

Perhaps all of you anti-McCain vitriolic castigators can come up with the name of one CEO in this nation that would give Mr. Obama anything more than an entry level job, based on his experience beyond the law (which judging from his friends, he doesn't bekieve in anyway).
Of course, you don't much care about our future anyway, unless you get the benefit of Obama giving you the store.,

Bud Day was a POW with McCain. He was defending McCain against the charges that Clark brought up.

I remember all too well how annoyed I was with McCain, four years ago, when he stood with Bush during the Swift Boat ads rather than defending a fellow veteran – who also had an honorable record in Vietnam.

Have some chickens come home to roost?

Big to do about nothing! Their BS is right out of the Karl Rove Play Book. No one is disparging McBush's military record. Everyone is pointing out exactly what everyone already knows: McSame's military experience, his POW experience and his hero status have nothing to do with whether it qualifies him to be Commander-in-Chief. All of his military experience, his POW experience and hero status DO NOT EQUATE with the abilty or the intelligence to lead our country as President. History is loaded with American military commanders and heros who were elected President and were horrible Presidents. The two sets of experiences simply don't equate. We all know that! Karl Rove and his swift boaters are not going to fool the American public anymore. This past election season has shown when the GOP uses it's old tactics it sways the voters in opposite direction. We all know they are going to do it....let them. It"s not going to work this year. In fact, it cheapens MCShame's honor and past, supposedly the exact thing they are purporting to defend.

obama wrote in his book that he chooses his friends wisely. Bill Ayres Syrian Tony Rezko, Rev Wright ,Farraghan ect cannot all be coincidences seeing that they all have a common tie of being anty american. obama telling the wold on national tv during the texas debate alerting al- qaeda that the government was sending troops to fight into Afghanistan that were undermanned and so ill equipped that they had to use weapons captured from the enemy to continue fighting (remember he thought this information to be true at the time of the broadcast) is also not very patriotic let alone the sign of a commander in chief

  25. Not fooled by distractions.

I'd say that Gen Clarks comments were also "were simply revelation of the truth".
