McCain Truth Squad defender was Swift Boat Vet member

[cnn-photo-caption image= http://i2.cdn.turner.com/cnn/2008/images/06/30/art.budday.cnn.jpg caption="Former Col. Bud Day appeared in a 2004 Swift Boat Vets spot."] (CNN) - One of the members of John McCain’s new Truth Squad - which his campaign says was launched to respond to unfair attacks on his record of military service –- was a member of the Swift Boat Veterans for Truth, and appeared in an attack ad for the group in 2004.

The group was created to attack 2004 Democratic nominee John Kerry’s military service record.

"How can you expect our sons and daughters to follow you when you condemned their fathers and grandfathers?" asked former Air Force Col. Bud Day, who was a prisoner of war with McCain in Vietnam, in a 2004 Swift Boat Vets spot.

McCain has said that he opposed the group’s efforts.

On a campaign conference call Monday, a Politico reporter asked Day if there was any similarity between former Gen. Wesley Clark’s controversial Sunday comments about McCain’s military service and his own remarks about John Kerry during the last presidential campaign.

Day dismissed any equivalence. "The Swift Boat 'attacks' were simply revelation of the truth. The similarity does not exist here," he said. "…One was about laying out the truth. This one is about attempting to cast a new shadow on John McCain."

Oh, that's freaking HILARIOUS. Priceless, really. 🙂

They get all up in arms with their fake indignation ("How DARE he point out that getting shot down doesn't automatically make you qualified to be president!") and go running off on their tangent of trying to make it about smearing someone's military record ...

... and then these crusty old douche nozzles use a SWIFT BOAT VETERAN FOR TRUTH spokesman as one of their attack dogs? A group that is the very DEFINITION of smearing someone's military record?

But, hey, if anyone would recognize a baseless smear, it would be them ... maybe that's the angle they were going for. 😉

aware – Bush is the closest thing to a King we've ever had. Not a good day for him. He'll probably try to declare a national emergency so he won't have to leave office in January.

Showing the true colors. Bud Day was lying then and he is lying now.

McWhatever... There is no way the Republicans should be in the White House. In fact a true Republican would vote against all this Mc Crap. McCain went to Vietnam in the 70's so he understands the international political world of today? McRight ... that's why he voted for the war and continues to support McBush and what's left of the McNeo-cons. Full circle... This is the same bunch that started Vietnam in the first place.

McCain would only deliver 4 more years of Bush policies AND politics. McCain's flip-flops are legendary... and legion. McCain is the one who should be worried about the Truth Squad. The truth is he's Mr. Status Quo, Stay the Course. $5/gallon gasoline just around the corner. More and more war, so much so that our nation can't afford to do anything else. Unemploment soaring. Prices jumping. Wages stagnating if not falling. Stock market in the toilet. DO WE WANT MORE OF THIS???

That good ole Republican, right wing double standard that is like talking to a brick wall. Never any accountability, always a denial. Repeat the lie enough times and people will start to believe it. This guy participating in a smear campaign against a decorated war hero, Sen. Kerry and continuing it today is just bad bad bad behavior. There needs to be an investigation of that whole campaign and the Swift boat Vets need to be brought up on charges of slander and voter tampering. Maybe if we added a little more consequence to breaking the law for all people instead of just black people, this guy Day wouldn't think it was okay to just keep repeating a lie to the press. It's really quite disgusting and sets a bad example for our kids. But I guess that doesn't matter to McCain. WAKE UP AMERICA!! WAKE UP!!!

Yeah, I know what the blue ribbon is. But unlike his treatment of John Kerry , I recognize that he no doubt deserved it. Even if later he did form the Swift Boat Liars to smear a brother.

Now we'll see whether this gets anything near as much attention as Obama having named that guy to the VP selection team – the one who was hounded incessantly until he had to resign from the position.

Every election, I hear Dems complain about truth and debating the issues. No truthful debates are ever done by them just attacks on Republicans for anything they can find that is not an issue. They never tell you were they stand, they just use the word change and rely on their ability to distort the truth. It is sad that so many Americans do not have the ability to think for themselves, but they rely on opinions from Dems that are put out as if they were the truth. Wake up America. Our American way of life is comming to an end and we may not be able to stop it.

Put a gun in McCain's hands and send him to the front lines in Iraq if he's such a goody hero. Put his money where his big loud mouth is.

It figures that the swiftboat crew are part of McCains campaign. I'm a vet but it wouldn't have bothered me a bit if the swiftboaters had remained in Vietnam

John McCains campaign is disgusting. This is one Republican who won't vote come November. Gen. Clark is right to explain that being a POW doesnt qualify you to be POTUS. John McCain never led any troops in combat, never developed any strategy, he got shot down and tortured. Maybe we should make 9/11 detainees the next president.

  23. Barack Obama is Our 44th president! YES WE CAN !

McCain and his campaign are a JOKE... they are truly pathetic right now. This is someone who vehemently opposed the 21st Century GI Bill that would guarantee full college scholarships for those who serve in the military. His reason was "it's too generous to our veterans." Now he's trying to put forth this old foolishness.

America let's get it right this time. Please turn the page on this nonsense...please turn the page on McSame's old dirty political tactics, because it's all good for nothing. This country needs new and better leadership and direction ! We need a president who can do more for us than being a war-monger!

It's time for REAL change in Washington, it's time to elect Barack Obama for president !

  24. It Wont Work

Just another old man standing next to and supporting another old man. Just more playing on fears and false patriotism
It wont work. It worked once in 2004, but in this election cycle, it will just McCAin look like the low-road candidate (just like Bush in 2000)

The doomed McCAin just doesnt get it. This is a new elction, the old tactics dont work anymore. We wont buy the lies this time.
