Obama notes working class roots in new ad

[cnn-photo-caption image= http://i2.cdn.turner.com/cnn/2008/images/06/30/art.obamaad.ap.jpg caption="Obama is out with a new ad Monday."](CNN) - Barack Obama’s campaign announced the release of its second general election television ad Monday, a 30-second spot designed to highlight his working-class roots and economic agenda as he ends his three-week economy tour but continues his efforts to woo that key Democratic constituency.

Watch: Obama courts working women

The campaign said ‘Dignity’ will air in 18 states, including perennial blue-collar battlegrounds like Michigan, Pennsylvania and Ohio, and some traditionally Republican areas where the presumptive Democratic nominee is hoping to compete in this fall, like Georgia, North Carolina and Virginia.

“He worked his way through college and Harvard Law,” says the announcer. “Turned down big money offers, and helped lift neighborhoods stung by job loss.”

The ad will begin airing Monday in Alaska, Colorado, Florida, Georgia, Iowa, Indiana, Michigan, Missouri, Montana, Nevada, New Hampshire, New Mexico, North Carolina, North Dakota, Ohio, Pennsylvania, Wisconsin, and Virginia.

Earlier this month, the Obama campaign’s first ad of the general election highlighted his patriotism and values.

SCRIPT – “Dignity”

OBAMA: I’m Barack Obama, and I approve this message.

Announcer: He worked his way through college and Harvard Law.

Turned down big money offers, and helped lift neighborhoods stung by job loss. Fought for workers’ rights.

He passed a law to move people from welfare to work, slashed the rolls by eighty percent. Passed tax cuts for workers; health care for kids.

As president, he’ll end tax breaks for companies that export jobs, reward those that create jobs in America.

And never forget the dignity that comes from work.

Definition of a chameleon: a small lizard whose skin changes color, especially according to it's surroundings. Sound familiar? Obama is that lizard.

Once again for all the INTELLIGENT people –

Alot of you are saying you can't vote for Obama because he flip flops..... and that is a reasonable argument about his stance on issues. Fair enough. Now let's look at it with a little logic, ok. If you went on a road trip, printed out by Mapquest ( or your GPS) and WAY down the road you found out you got incorrect information and you are going the wrong direction ( you are lost), would you turn around or be like Chris Columbus and "search for the east by sailing west"? Well I would turn around... If Bush and Mccain take a position and they found out it is wrong they will never change course. AMERICANS WAKE UP, you must change course if you are headed the wrong direction. Flip flopping to get to the correct solution shouldn't be a crime..... We make it a crime and see what happen, the economy suffers. Bush was so scared of going back on his word............ NOW WE SUFFER. Is this why you need Mccain?

Gee whiz – now Bama is trying to appeal to the people he snubbed. I notice this ad will be shown in those states where he's in trouble. Is this really Bama trying to appeal or is someone pulling the strings – puppet Bama, scary. Either way this guy should display a danger flashing sign everytime he makes a move !

Obviously, you did not go to college or else you would know that it can be done.

Because I cannot afford to pay for college for my daughter, she got grants, loans , scholarships and is working to pay for her education. She got a position in her apartment building as the floor manager which now pays for her room and board until graduation.

She may not be at Harvard, but she is making it work for what she needs to do to get her degree.

To the comments by Ula Nejad. Are you equally concerned about McCain's statement that he NEVER LOVED his country until he was not in her presence or something along those lines? He, at one point, did not LOVE America! OMG!

Barack Hussein Osama Bin Laden is a traitor just as his followers are. He is a God to them to fill the void in their meaningless lives. That is all he is nothing more than an Anti-Christ communist, just like his followers. This is America, not Africa. If you people want to live third world, there are many parts of this country that you can move to and be just that. Third World. As for me and my community, you better stay far away. If you like Osama so much, why don't you all live in South Chicago so you can live together under him and Rezco's rule? Don't have them ruin the whole country. If you want the ghetto so bad, move there, don't try to spread it to my hood.

Hey – he had my vote at "Hi, my name is Barack Obama".

I'm so sick of the career politicians thinking their part-time jobs doing nothing in the Senate or House entitles them the Presidency.

Just Say NO to MORE WARS. Just Say NO to MORE War-Mongers/Fear-Mongers.

    No To McCain.

    Yes to Obama

Senator Obama has been a politician for much of his adult life and is currently in his 12th year of senatorial duty at either the state or national level. So, I think it's safe to lump him into the "career politican" group you talk of.

As far as I can tell, he hasn't really done much himself during his "part-time job", especially during his last position. He's spent most of it planning and running for the office of President.

If you haven't noticed, Sen. Obama is really starting to tap the brakes on his "end the war" platform. Just recently he said he would discuss the possibility of a systematic withdrawl from Iraq with the President. Quite a shift from his earlier rhetoric of pulling out immediately. But these things are not a surprise to those of us who think independently.

If you're looking for a candidate who isn't a career politician, who has accomplished a lot in their public life and one who is clearly against the war and the current Middle East policy – Sen. Obama is not your candidate. Ralph Nader is.

It's pretty sad that we teach our children to educated themselves to the fullest and to reach for their dreams and now that Obama has done this we condemn him. This is absolutely absurd that this man have to deal with this type of treatment from obviously a bunch of uneducated no filling dreamers who can't stand to see someone has accomplished great things in life. I am very proud of both he and his wife. I tell you what, I don't have a problem with telling my kids to look at them as mentors, because they are just that. Yes, they have struggled to the top and no one gave them anything. They earned it and that I can appreciate. Something many of us on this blog don't appreciate nor can understand.

Stop hating or should I say stop being a racist. This man has more experience in his pinky than some of you have in your whole life. How dare you people discredit this man in such a manner. Think of his little girls who are listening and watching how America is treating their father after we say we are the land of opportunities and freedom. Sound more like the land that only offer opportunities and freedom to those who they believe have the right color and fit their persona. Definitely not AMERICA!!!

Barack Obama on gas prices: "I think that I would have preferred a gradual adjustment. The fact that this is such a shock to American pocketbooks is not a good thing. But if we take some steps right now to help people make the adjustment, first of all by putting more money in their pockets, but also by encouraging the market to adapt to these new circumstances more rapidly, particularly U.S. automakers..."

Obama has never had hand-outs. He worked hard and was able to get scholarships for good schools. McCon on the other hand has had handouts his entire life beginning with getting into the Naval Academy. He didn't have to work for it, his daddy pulled some strings. Then he goes into the Navy and wrecks four multi million dollar fighter aircraft. He comes home has an affair with Cindy whose daddy bought McCons way into politics. BIG difference between these two. One had hand-outs there entire life and one had to work and struggle their way through.

the real Obama as a habit according to himself with calling females sweety he also according to Michelle as a habit of leaving her to plunge the - out of the toilet and haul out the trash. when sen. Clinton said she was taught how to shoot a gun he ridiculed her on national television calling her Annie Oakley. again on national TV he called his grandmother who when it's politically advantageous is a saint otherwise she becomes a racist who he refers to as a typical white person. sen. obama as no respect for women and I'm sure they can see that. his latest insult is having people make over his wife to teach her how to dress walk and talk to bring her up to his standards he is a sick puppy

May 19, 2008: Leading Democratic presidential candidate Sen. Barack Obama pooh-poohed the idea that Iran or any of a few other "tiny" nations around the world offer a serious potential threat to the United States or the free world.

"Iran, Cuba, Venezuela? These countries are tiny compared to the Soviet Union. They don't pose any serious threat to us," he told a crowd at a campaign stop over the weekend

I just hope Obama stays true to the values that motivated so many the past few months. Increasingly he seems to be trying to placate the ignorant by moving to the middle. Criticizing General Clark for telling the truth about McLame's military experience was a bad move by Obama in my opinion. All the ads in the world will not mean a hill of beans if Obama alienates his base.
