Obama over fist bumping?

Barack Obama and wife Michelle famously fist bumped when the Illinois senator captured the Democratic nomination.

Barack Obama and wife Michelle famously fist bumped when the Illinois senator captured the Democratic nomination.

(CNN) - Is Obama ditching his signature fist bump?

According to Tuesday's press pool report, the Illinois senator refused to bump fists with a boy as he was touring the Eastside Community Ministry in Zanesville, Ohio.

As the boy outstretched his first, Obama said no and added, "If I start that ..."

His voice then trailed off.

The presumptive Democratic presidential candidate popularized the move last month when he and his wife Michelle bumped fists on the night he formally captured the party's presidential nomination.

Watch: The famous fist bump

Video of the duo fist bumping became widely popular on the internet, leading the Washington Post to declare it “the first bump heard ‘round the world.'”

The fist bump is just an updated version of the high five. So why is everyone making such a big deal about it? If you don't want to vote for Obama then simply don't vote for him. But , please stop this ridiculous nit picking him to death. At first the question everyone was asking was he black enough and now it's seems as if he's being portrayed as being too black. As a you man it really makes me wonder if our country has moved above its troubled past.

Clinton, no, wait, McCain Supporter, you have always been a Republican. You don't fool anybody invoking Hillary's name. Everything you write is anti-Democrat. You should change your handle or change your message. You are in no way believable as a disaffected Democrat. Come on out of the Republican Party closet and stop Hating on Obama. You're just mad he is much, much, much smarter than you!

it is stupid that people are trying to make news out of this. There's nothing wrong with the fist bump. There's nothing wrong with deciding not to do it with strangers. This and Clark and Clinton and even Powell – not so important. GET OVER IT, and let's talk about real issues, like how many soldiers are wound/injured in Iraq and exactly what progress Bush et al have really made, and whether we should negotiate or kill first, or whether we should rebuild our country's crumbling infrastructure....

To anyone who pretends they were for Clinton before they were for McCain... admitting that you're a Republican must be a difficult thing to do, but it is also the first step toward your Recovery..

Obama, c'mon! Not to fist bump a kid? I think he is a little bit too concerned about what right-wingers think. The hell with them and what they think about the fist bump! Don't act based on the right wing psychos of this country because they are uptight. Relate to the people. Every great president had ways to relate to the people...Kissing babies is one of them. You are going to stop doing that because you're afraid that FOX and right-wingers are going to label it as 'Jihad'. This is just plain ridiculous.

Senator Obama initially agreed to take part in a series of informal debates and then he changed his mind and says that he wants substantially less debates and he wants them more structured to the issues he feels that he is "stronger" on. He also stressed how he preferred to take part in public financing, but we know what happened when he saw how much money he could get...and I don't believe for a minute that no "special interests" are financing him.

Maybe he should dump his practice of misrepresenting his stances on the issues, then he would actually start earning a little bit of the trust that so many people have put in him.

    Just another politician.

I'd feel a whole lot better if he'd straighten out his position believeably on his muslim status and his I'm with them if it comes to that positions. They've complained so much about what they don't like about America, how about something they do like about America, like the free college educations, scholarships, special deals on house purchasing by politicians, special loan deals, etc., etc., etc..............

Obama flipflops on fist bumps. Seems like a fist bump would be a very authenic way to connect with young people. This is exactly why he comes off as elitist, because there is no authentic Obama. Very sad.

To be fair McCain also missed his youth opportunity this week. Spencer Macke ,who earned Sen. John McCain's admiration for selling $4,000 worth of yellow ribbons to benefit troops abroad. So they offered to reward for the 6 year old and his 5 year old sister with a chance to ask the Republican presidential contender five questions. Spencer asker "Were you ever in a tank" reading from a notebook. "Did you ever use a M-16?" McCain answered he had never fired an M-16, the weapon of choice during his time in the Vietnam War, but he flew with a standard combat pistol. He said being president isn't like being a king because the executive, legislative and judicial branches are supposed to provide equal leadership. Piper asked "Is being the president like being a king?" and "What does the president do all day?" As for what the president does all day, McCain described meetings and foreign travel and how the president should work with Congress to resolve the mortgage loan crisis. McCain's answers were so over their heads that it made McCain seem really questionable in the parenting dept. Again, very sad.
The over all point is you need to meet your all your constituants where they are, not just ones you are pandering to.

  19. Not really news

Even this uptight white dude knows that the fist bump, while not something remotely approaching "presidential" in nature, is a greeting or gesture with relatively new, yet deep roots in American culture. Face it racists and geezers: like it or not, this is America's new direction.

whats wrong with the fist bump? why not be yourself?
somebody please explain to me whats wrong with the fist bump?
    is it offensive?
    is it a terroristic threat?
    is it an insult?
or is it just too black for america?

Why does the mainstream media act like this is some new phenomena invented by Obama? People have been "smashing the rock" in my neck of the woods for like the past 10 years ... I figured it was ubiquitous across the USA ...guess not.
