Obama over fist bumping?

Barack Obama and wife Michelle famously fist bumped when the Illinois senator captured the Democratic nomination.

Barack Obama and wife Michelle famously fist bumped when the Illinois senator captured the Democratic nomination.

(CNN) - Is Obama ditching his signature fist bump?

According to Tuesday's press pool report, the Illinois senator refused to bump fists with a boy as he was touring the Eastside Community Ministry in Zanesville, Ohio.

As the boy outstretched his first, Obama said no and added, "If I start that ..."

His voice then trailed off.

The presumptive Democratic presidential candidate popularized the move last month when he and his wife Michelle bumped fists on the night he formally captured the party's presidential nomination.

Watch: The famous fist bump

Video of the duo fist bumping became widely popular on the internet, leading the Washington Post to declare it “the first bump heard ‘round the world.'”

Fist bumping a common greeting? Among who? Maybe among black athletes, politicians or entertainers but certainly not among regular citizens. It's a race thing to be sure. What's next if BO gets into the White House? Change the name of the residence, chicken and watermelon parties, Colt 45 in paper bags for State dinners. Lets be real; you might be able to take the boy out of the ghetto but you'll never take the ghetto out of the boy.

Fist bumping is not done in polite societies. We have certain values that will be destroyed if he becomes our leader.

We have to have our values protected and Obama has proven that he is not up to the job. as soon as someone does, or says something that might offend a few, he throws them under the bus.

That means if you don't walk a straight line he will dump you or your issue. I'm not sure he is patriotic either. What a snaky Politician.

Obama has no loyalty to his supporters, so if I were you I'd be careful.

I am not an American but I just have to comment on this issue. I am truly shocked that a fist bump can even be considered disastrous to a campaign. Surely the American population has witnessed fist bumps in the past and probably partaken in a few themselves. The fact that this is an issue shows that folks don't really have much to complain about in regards to Barack Obama. Then you have reporters calling it a "terrorist fist jab". I doubt terrorists fist bump before they blow themselves up. I guess if I were to share a fist bump with my friends or relatives that would cause me to be a threat. I think people need to focus on the issues at hand and not on something as trivial as a fist bump.

You people are so stupid. Fist bumping has been around a lot longer than Obama did it. Sports figures use it a lot. Why are you acting like small children over something this mundane?

Day after day CNN fills the ticker with little stories trying to make BO more appealing. The news media is in complete overdrive trying to get this unqualified man elected President. The young, ignorant and uninformed are easily manipulated by their efforts!

How come I knew there would be 188 posts on this? I wasn't going to post a comment; however, this being reported as news is just pathetic. There is a difference between two adults sharing affection with each other and influencing someone else's child without the parent's consent.

My sons ( and myself) have been doing the "fist bump" for years. Obama did not make this a popular practice. My guess is one of the groups he has been pandering to must have taken offense and he now is complying with their wishes.

First dancing on Ellen, now "fist bumping".... how completely unprofessional. With more people interested in pop culture than family values, I guess American culture has degenerated beyond the point of no return. Here comes Obama, or should I say Jimmy Carter Part 2. I wonder what shameful international disaster Carter 2 will bring upon us... it will most likely involve groveling to petty dictators such as Ahmedinneedofjihad, Chavez, and Mugabe.

A question for the libs out there, will Michelle fill the role of Billy Carter in the Obama administration? I can't wait to see Michelle Beer on the shelves.

For the uninformed, "fist bump" as it is now called, as been around longer than Howie Mandel and Budweiser...

    From Wikipedia:
Dap is a form of handshake that became popularized in the white mainstream society in the 1960s originating among African Americans. The term dap may have originated as an acronym for Dignity and Pride, (or may have been backronymed) and was popularly used by African American soldiers during the Vietnam War even though as a tradition it has existed in the African-American community for centuries. Though it can refer to many kinds of greeting involving hand contact, dap is best known as a complicated routine of shakes, slaps, snaps, and other contact that must be known completely by both parties involved, otherwise, an awkward but friendly improvisation occurs as the participants essentially mirror the jazz culture with creative forms of ordering the various moves of the hands with snaps, slaps, mutual knuckle bumps and finger waves (jazz hands). Some forms or other names for these greetings include "slapping five," "Black Power Handshake," "high five," "Five on the Black Hand Side," and "the pound". It is often confused with the word "tap". The dap may be derived from West African non-verbal traditions brought over with the enslaved Africans to the Americas starting in the 1600s. It is a ritualized but common form of agreement between two or more people who offer this casual physical contact as an affirmation, congratulations or other type of agreement with an action, clever phrase, sports event or when admiring an attractive female or male.

I think Clark is an idiot. McCain is far more experienced and qualified to be president than say a JFK, or Jerry Ford and certainly has more experience than the green horn obama.

Obama is a joke He has no experience except giving cotton candy speeches with no substance and very little truth and there will be no follow through. He will say anything and try to do a lot of fake stuff just to get elected, but America wake up. This guy doesn't share our values.

Why do we care, the only reason this is an issue is that Obama is black so now the world wants to know if it is a "black thing" first it was a terror slap, now what. His wife just gave him a fist bump to show the world that she is by his side. Many men want wives like Michelle, many of us have them, I myself have a fist bumper, my wife is alwyas by my side, as a wife should be. Can CNN get off this please. It's bad enough that CNN has helped sell a war that is a lie and this what they can talk about "fist bumping", over 4100 soldiers dead and we Americans care about "fist bumping", well ask the parents of the dead soldiers (kids) if they care about "fist bumping". I swear CNN is getting more like FOX news with all the smearing and petty issues. Soon Sean Hannity will have a show on here.

People get over it, Obama is an African-American, his wife is an African-American, his daughters are African-American, he plays basketball, likes sports, his wife is one hell of a dresser, she works out and they are Ivy league educated, now what. Republicans are the ones who are afriad of thier wives being smart. Look at the Republicans wives they are all just a bunch of "smilers" they smile, but have no identity cause Repuiblicans can't handle strong women, they think that women should be confiend to ranches where theor daughters marry men three times their age.

See it goes to show you, when you are African-American and you have more education than your white counter parts--people fear you. When will America grow-up.

"We Lifelong Democrats are sure NOT HAPPY"
A: Then join another party, nobody is asking you to stay.

"we should vote Howie for president then. This isn't a game show. This is our children's future that Obama wants to flush Some can say smoking crack is widely accepted. Let him bump his way right out of the race… fine with me and the rest of the decent people in the country."
A: Are you kidding me. Do you think your Children's future rest on "Fist Bumping" and you are far from considering yourself decent. But then again you probably were a Hillary Supporter. Some can say putting up with an adulterer husband is widely accepted, you and your 'decent" people in the country probably would.

"Senator Obama seems to be scared of his own shadow recently. The lapel pin fiasco, the over-reaction to Gen. Clark's TV interview, fist bump paralysis, etc.. If one can't be true to oneself, how will one ever be true to the office of President."
A: Amen to that.. What a close call with Hillary and her financial responsibility.. SO if Obama flip flops over a Fist Bump and the Lapel pin is the biggest issue.. Then OBAMA in 08 for sure..

Please, everyone, understand that CNN could care less about the relevance of any campaign story or what effect it may have on voters. CNN and all the major news networks are just part of the problem with the way elections are carried out in this country. The mainstream media has only one motive-RATINGS. If they stir up the pot over meaningless issues or play the "he said she said" game with the candidates, they could care less about the impact as long a people watch. Everyone needs to reach outside the mainstream media and become informed on their own. Vote as you please, but get the facts, not the BS that mainstream media outlets such as CNN puts out.
