Obama over fist bumping?

Barack Obama and wife Michelle famously fist bumped when the Illinois senator captured the Democratic nomination.

Barack Obama and wife Michelle famously fist bumped when the Illinois senator captured the Democratic nomination.

(CNN) - Is Obama ditching his signature fist bump?

According to Tuesday's press pool report, the Illinois senator refused to bump fists with a boy as he was touring the Eastside Community Ministry in Zanesville, Ohio.

As the boy outstretched his first, Obama said no and added, "If I start that ..."

His voice then trailed off.

The presumptive Democratic presidential candidate popularized the move last month when he and his wife Michelle bumped fists on the night he formally captured the party's presidential nomination.

Watch: The famous fist bump

Video of the duo fist bumping became widely popular on the internet, leading the Washington Post to declare it “the first bump heard ‘round the world.'”

The "Alice in Florida"s of the world are so transparent...they throw tantrums about inconsequential things like "fist taps," then accuse the same candidate of being a chameleon when he reacts to their response. Who do they think they're fooling? If Barack Obama saved a baby from a burning building these people would still find a way to criticize him for it.

Can we perhaps report on real issues instead of this minutiae? Jeez louise. I can't imagine something this inane being reported on in Europe.

So let me get this straight? There is an ever increasing gas price, there are people dying in hospital emergency waiting rooms on the floor, there are people getting run over by bulldozers in Israel... and the best CNN's political ticker could come up with is the fact that Obama didn't fist bump (or whatever its called)? Way to go CNN you have finally proven that the MSM is a joke and that we Americans do not care in general about important issues. People care about flag pins. Stick to the important stuff!

This is sad: watch Obama lose this election big time. It may look like a non-issue, but it says a lot about character. Where is Obama's backbone? He also should have defended General Clark's comments, which were very clear re McCain. These actions are painting him as a weak, flip-flop candidate. Wake the hell up, Obama! Stand by some convictions!

YES WE WILL, BARACK OBAMA!!! And all of you naive people who are talking about all this pandering...please remember that the Dems haven't had the White House in quite a long time because there are a lot of stupid people in this country to which we must pander. We're gonna have to pander a little bit in order to get into office – then we can make changes. Think about this rationally.

    YES WE WILL!!!

The "bump" is stupid and pretentious. Obama is smart to stop doing it.

This happens every election cycle - the candidate moves far to the left (or right) during the primaries and then has to move to the center during the generals in order to get elected. Call it pandering, call it what you will - but the reality is that in order for anyone in this country to get a enough electoral votes in a Presidential election in this country, they have to espouse some pretty centrist views. It's two party politics at work.

I'm just crossing my fingers that Obama has moved toward the center for the primaries and then once in office will move back towards the left. In the meantime, the most important thing that this country needs is right now is some inspiration and unity - and Obama is the man for that.

there is nothing misleading about a fist pump or closed high five. it is a recognition between people 'EVERYTHING IS GOOD' whether it be about sports, polotics or anything else in general. the reaction by the woman commentator on the fist pump between barack & michelle obama was one of stupidity and ignorance. the fist pump is used every day in business, sports or any general environment of people.

i would urge barack obama to continue using the fist pump-it is natural to him as it is to millions of other people from all walks of life.

This "ticker" is a joke. All the time you waste discussing these non-issues. Fist-bumps/ flag-pins / what some old general said. CNN–you are dumbing down the common person. Of course you won't report on Carl Linder Jr. and his ties to the Colombian terrorist group AUC, and how Mr. Linder raised 2 million dollars for John McCain last week, because this is real news. This is the news people need splashed on your homepage. Why don't you start doing your job and report the news, or just rename yourself something like "the Rag" or "the Trashcan"
Of course, I have no hope of this post making past your censors.

Let's see here...the economy stinks, gas and oil are at record highs. The housing market is in crisis and the Taliban is back. Does the right wing have anything better to do than talk about a fist bump? Is one supposed to laugh or cry? Wait a minute...if i cry does that mean i support the terrorists?

The co-host of a recent top-dollar fundraiser for Sen. John McCain oversaw the payment of roughly $1.7 million to a Colombian paramilitary group that is today designated a terrorist organization by the United States.

Flip Flopping on a Fist Bump???

The Fist Bump goes under the bus???

Does Obama have any core beliefs that he won't denounce?

What does this clown believe in? No one knows, apparantly not even Obama.

"sexism favoritism reverse racism" & "Surge"

Shut up! Your candidate lost because she and her campaign got their a@#es handed to them in Iowa, then trounced bigtime in 12 straight primaries by the better candidate, then changed their strategy to "get tough" and appear manly, then bancrupted their campaign, now you're claiming victim status hiding under sexism. Read a phucking news paper please...and vote for McTeleprompter if you feel that's going to make America stronger. I'm tired of you whiners anyway! Begone. The Keating Five needs you (ya retards!)

Just another issue that would be a non issue if it wasn't Barack who did it. Double standard!

CNN you are pathetic. With anchors like Glenn Beck and Anderson Cooper it's a wonder how CNN stays in business. Anderson is a high school girl's volleyball coach at best and Glenn Beck couldn't get a job selling ice cream because of his sex offender status. Please, when CNN posts stories like this they make FOX NEWS look respectible, which is outrageously pathetic. This is exactly the reason why I only watch MSNBC or C-SPAN, because CNN has become FOX NEWS's little red headed side kick.

So what would the talk have been if Michelle and Barack had greeted one another on stage with a nice professional handshake? This is all context. The playful way in which you greet your husband or wife, or even your own child, is not appropriate for a presidential candidate to greet someone–particularly a child– on the campaign trail. Fortunately, Obama knows this.

Good to see the media on top of the important issues and the malcontents out for a rant.

The first fist bump with Michelle was a cute moment but put it away now. It's not presidential.

OMG, I also heard Obama stopped flossing his teeth with dental floss aka "terrorist beheading wire"...

And I heard people don't like Michelle Obama – oh no, maybe she won't be liked when she visits schools, etc in her non-policy making capacity as First Lady.......

Focus on the issues please!! If we want useless spin, lies and observations, we'll tune into Faux News (like the brainless Repubs do)!

No wonder we end up with guys like Bush!

Retarded is what this "controversy" is, it must be a slow news day. If you go to ANY high school, ANY sporting event or ANY social interaction you will see people dong this. It's been a part of younger culture for 10 years. IM just not understanding how in ANY this could be conceived as inappropriate.
