First, two officers were hurt last week when lightning struck between their motorcycles while on a training exercise. Then Wednesday night, another member of the same unit was hurt when he crashed while escorting Barack Obama’s motorcade.
Sgt. Tim Hogan tells CNN the officer went down when a van clipped his motorcycle as he tried to block traffic. He said the officer’s Kevlar vest and helmet took the brunt of the impact, keeping his injuries from being too serious.
Secret Service agents and paramedics tended to the officer, who was taken to Memorial Hospital in Colorado Springs and later released.
Obama spoke with the officer at the hospital by phone.
“It turns out he’s OK,” Mr. Obama said at a fundraiser Wednesday night. “I called him and he said it’s all part of the job. He’s doing all right.”
The Democratic presidential candidate was in Colorado Springs delivering a speech on national service, visiting Peterson Air Force Base and the U.S. Air Force Academy. The accident happened as he was returning to the hotel where Obama attended a fundraiser.
In February, a Dallas Police officer was killed in an accident while protecting the motorcade of Sen. Hillary Clinton when his motorcycle crashed.

An unfortunate accident and you have some idiot post a comment like Dave in Atlanta. You would think people would have better sense! Hope his recovery is a speedy one.
Slow news day huh? But do I say?...tsk tsk
CNN come on !!!!!!!!! is this really news? Wel I guess it is when you can't find any negative fodder to report about Barack.
Dave in Atlanta:
Get a life! Have a little respect, is that to much to ask? Not everything is political; this officer was injured in the performance of his duties. If you wish to make more of this than what it is, fine, but at least have a little respect for the officer and his family. Your comments show a complete lack of respect or regard for the health and wellbeing of the officer and are insulting to say the least.
Yay! Obama's in Colorado!
I saw McCain plans to come here Monday...God save us Coloradans!
Poor guy, guarding Obama... if I was a police I would refuse to guard him!
If you want to talk omens, how about Katrina hitting the U.S. on McCain's birthday.
No political retorts or swipes....We all just hope the guy is ok!!
Thankfully he is safe and not seriously injured, good job to Mr. Obama for following up on him and making sure he was alright, a real gentleman who is concerned about those around him!
To Latino voters
If you are now citizens, congratulations! Please remember this your chidren being born in the US are now natural born American citizens
They could grow up to be president of this great nation.
Vote for Obama and this dream could become a reality.
Dave. Give it a rest. God speed to all the folks guarding Sen. Obama.
My prayers are always with you
I HOPE THE OFFICER IS OK. THE MEN AND WOMEN OF OUR DANGEROUS SERVICES ARE NOT GIVEN ENOUGH CREDIT.
THE DIFFERANCE BETWEEN OBAMA AND CLINTON IS CLINTON CANCELLED HER RALLYS AND WENT TO THE HOSPITAL TO BE WITH THE OFFICER AND HIS FAMILY THE DAY THE OFFICER WHO WAS PROTECTING HER WAS IN AN ACCIDENT.OBAMA SIMPLY MADE A CALL. WHO WOULD YOU RATHER BE THE HEAD OF THIS GREAT COUNTRY SOMEONE WHO REALLY CARES OR SOMEONE WHO SAYS THEY CARE.
DEMOCRAATS FOR McCAIN 2008 HILLARY CLINTON 2012
To Presidential Nominee Obama and McCain,
These are the people who protect us. They stand guard so we may sleep. Those who lay their lives on the line and say "Nothing will happen to you; not on my watch", we, the people, salute you.
Hopefully the next president will realize that within this group of brave souls are thousands of veterans, young and old, who once stood their ground so we may never have to, and now do not have a roof over their head, a shirt on their back or food on the plate.
Please do something to help them; for we would not be here today if it wasn't for them; whom we have ignored.
