Dem wants to ban future Roves from the White House

[cnn-photo-caption image= http://i2.cdn.turner.com/cnn/2008/images/07/08/art.rove.gi.jpg caption="Rove is a former top Bush aide."](CNN) - The future Karl Roves of the world may be outlawed from working in the White House.

Democratic Rep. Henry Waxman, the chairman of the powerful House Oversight and Government Reform Committee, suggested to a Capitol Hill newspaper that he is considering legislation that bans the use of federal money to fund a position similar to the one the longtime Bush aide held in the White House.

Rove, who orchestrated both of the president's successful electoral victories, headed the White House's Office of Political Affairs and the Office of Public Liaison during Bush's first term. Democrats have long accused Rove of using those offices - which include interacting with political committees and interest groups - to essentially run the president's 2004 reelection campaign.

“Why should we be using taxpayer dollars to have a person solely in charge of politics in the White House?” Waxman told The Hill. “Can you imagine the reaction if each member of Congress had a campaign person paid for with taxpayer dollars?”

Ethics rules in the Senate are considerably clearer when it comes to conducting political business: congressional aides are banned from using government phones, e-mail, and computers for any politically-related job.

Waxman's office confirmed the accuracy of the quotes, but would not comment further.

You can possibly eradicate evil from this world. Karl Rove and people alike will find a way, one way or another to inflict their evil theory and theology to capitalize on the innocence of the naïve.

    Oh, crud!

I wanted to be the Karl Rove of the Obama Administration. I wanted to screw over Republicans and make them look like idiots from my high perch in the White House. I've got so many cool ways to stick it those jerks, it's too bad I might not get the chance.

And just who, Waxman, will be the judge of who should be on the president's staff if not the president himself?

That guy should be in leg irons! He is a criminal and should be dragged in front of the House to testify, but all he would do there is lie anyway.

Everyone wants to blame Karl Rove for everything. I think that he is a slimey, souless person myself. But when are the American people going to stop blaming Rove and the Media. If the citizens of this country were not so lazy. And actually did some research on George Bush. Instead of relying on what was being spoon fed by the media and advertisements. This would have never happened. I am concerned that it could happen again. With the media scrutinizing Obama's every word. Will we do research or depend on corporate media.

There are many unethical people on either side of the aisle, like Rove. I agree with the thinking that this office should be abolished. Unfortunately, both sides are as corrupt and should a politico wish these duties could be transfered to another department.

Karl Rove is a brilliant man with good principles.

Barack Obama is a fairly smart man with variable principles.

John McCain is an average man with decent principles.

Rove needs to run for President. There are only 10 people out there who hate him an no one listens to them.

I am no Karl Rove fan, but for ANY politician to point fingers is a joke!
Everyone of them seek re-election or a new office while being paid by "taxpayers" . To say that any politicians personal staff only works on government business would be an even bigger joke.
If they want true reform, they should do what the rest of us do- take time off wihtout pay to search for work, quit and then look for a job and stop all this fake outrage.
With the exception of John Edwards every candidate for the Dems was a working in office. Gulinai was the only one I cna remember from the Republicans not on the taxpayer dole while running.
Mr Waxman- you are my representitive, but come on!!

How did congress approve this position in the first place? I thought all White House positions had to be approved by the Senate. We have had the worst congress in history. The balance of power no longer exists.

Henry Waxman you are one of the most worthless members of congress to ever walk the halls. You have done nothing meaningful or positive for the american people. Your endless witchhunt of the President would make the founding fathers of this fine nation roll in the grave. You are a Traitor to this country and if you lived during Lincolns era would have been hung for TREASON.

The real corruption in the White House has been missing files that mysteriously show up on Whitewater, lost FBI files on US citizens, and cigar wrappers & pizza boxes with a highlighted dictionary with the definition of "IS".

Waxman – you have got to be kinding. Take up issues of importance to the country! I would say 90% or more of your taxpayer staff is concerned about your reelection and I would venture to guess (based upon my experience in Washington) that they take "vacation time" to aid in yours and other campaign efforts.

Also lets look back at our civics – role of the President is also Chief of Party – hence why you have a Political/Public Outreach. Did not hear the moans on the use of this position for the Clinton years
