Dem wants to ban future Roves from the White House

[cnn-photo-caption image= http://i2.cdn.turner.com/cnn/2008/images/07/08/art.rove.gi.jpg caption="Rove is a former top Bush aide."](CNN) - The future Karl Roves of the world may be outlawed from working in the White House.

Democratic Rep. Henry Waxman, the chairman of the powerful House Oversight and Government Reform Committee, suggested to a Capitol Hill newspaper that he is considering legislation that bans the use of federal money to fund a position similar to the one the longtime Bush aide held in the White House.

Rove, who orchestrated both of the president's successful electoral victories, headed the White House's Office of Political Affairs and the Office of Public Liaison during Bush's first term. Democrats have long accused Rove of using those offices - which include interacting with political committees and interest groups - to essentially run the president's 2004 reelection campaign.

โ€œWhy should we be using taxpayer dollars to have a person solely in charge of politics in the White House?โ€ Waxman told The Hill. โ€œCan you imagine the reaction if each member of Congress had a campaign person paid for with taxpayer dollars?โ€

Ethics rules in the Senate are considerably clearer when it comes to conducting political business: congressional aides are banned from using government phones, e-mail, and computers for any politically-related job.

Waxman's office confirmed the accuracy of the quotes, but would not comment further.

Why do all of this administrations' members and representatives wear that stupid, wry grin on their faces. I say we round them up...(bush, cheney, rove etc.) tie them to a tree and beat them until they confess to being witches.

This is ridiculous! If the dems had a guy or gal like Rove they wouldn't be saying this. And some day the dems will have somene like that – it is fated – and the repubs will be saying this.

Contrast this with right-wing outrage when Al Gore simply made campaign-based phone calls from his office at the white house. Bush had a dedicated campaign director on staff, at taxpayer expense. (But I guess, as long as he didn't make any phone calls, it was legal).

I also remember the outrage when Clinton used Air-Force 1 to make campaign stops during his 1996 reelection bid. And how proudly the right-wing media reported Bush doing the exact same thing in 2004.

McSame is a flip flopper that can't even remember where he stands on anything. He only kicks Bush under the bus when it suits him. He will fund raise with him behind closed doors, but bad mouths him in the light. McSame will lose and then he can go back to the Senate telling war stories. He is so out of touch with reality.

Why don't the Democrats do what the American people want them to do. I am tired of this congress doing NOTHING for the American people.

WAKE UP AMERICA, LET US TAKE OUR GOVERNMENT BACK!

    Ken,
Check your facts. Did you know (probably not) that the republicants in Congress have used the filibuster more times in one session than any other Congressional session in history? If the Dems managed to get something by them, the Prez. vetoed it. He didn't start using his veto power until the Dems took over Congress.

Rove is a product of the Washington system. If federal money can't be used to pay his salary, corporate money is readily available. The voters who could not discern that Bush was and is an intellectual lightweight, unworthy of the office, and clueless are the source of the problem.

Being from Texas, I was able to vote against the guy 4 times, and each time he won. He defeated Ann Richards, Texas' finest governor of recent memory, he defeated Gore, and he defeated Kerry. The foolishness of my fellow voters was a real eye-opener to me. As Mr. Barnum used to say, one is born every minute.

Hey did anyone notice that Karl Rove is not wearing a flag pin? I guess that means he's as unamerican as he try's to make everyone else look. Glad to hear he won't be getting paid anymore to help elect a corrupt person like Bush.

Don't blame Karl Roves. He just does what he's paid to do (and he's darn good at it). I guarantee you, the Dems have their own version of Karl Roves. The Dems may want to be careful what they wish for (and who they decide to ban from serving in an administration). It may come back to bite them.

Although, it would be nice if we could ban all politicians from Wash DC.......

I say let it ride. All these extensions of power of the executive branch that were installed by HRH and court, should be used and abused just as HRH has done. Then we will see how the Republicans like to be railroaded, oh say, for 16 years!

Republican, remember, HRH set the precendent, so when you challange it in court, judges will be able to point back to HRH and say if he could do it then we can do it.

This is a great idea. The people that are down on Democrats for suggesting accountability always seem to forget this kind of legislation also protects them from President Obama's political advisor using their tax money to campaign from the White House.

This one is the most dispicable next to Bush and Cheney–a political hack right in the White House using tax dollars and pretending they stand for "small government." All of these law-breakers refuse to testify when they are called before the congress even though they are on the peoples' payroll. They simply ignore everything and lie even thought they are shown video of themselves. Meanwhile the faithful Republicans keep voting these crooks back in office. We are on the brink.........................
